Check out v pohode ,platba kartou. U Gigiho kupujeme plnene pecivo (makove a hribove). Prichadza k nam maly pes, hadze sa mu trochu peciva s hribami. Od lanovky ... read more

Opat novy dvojposchodak a opat nie moc rozumejuci cvakac listkov etiketom. Zas nacital len jeden etiket a ... read more

I'll get to the headline story later on, but it was the most thrilling thing that happened today, for sure. There's not really a whole lot "scary" here, considering this is reputedly the birthplace of Dracula. My trip here this morning went off without a hitch. I had another awesome breakfast at my hotel, and then I took a cab - the first one of this trip - to the train station. It cost a whole $2.50, and that included the tip! I'll be taking another one tomorrow morning, and probably another one in the afternoon when I get to my next stop. They really are cheap here, so I'm going to act like I have money, since I apparently do. I'm also going in for the "splurge" hotels in Romania, at least according to wikivoyage.org, ... read more

V hradbách tohto kostolo žila rodina a tá nam ochotne kostol otvorila a pustila nás dovnútra. V tejto dedinke sme si dali prestávku, sedeli a pozerali čo sa tu deje. Po pol hodine dokonalého "skapal ... read more

Do Sighisoary išli v tento deň len dva vlaky a my sme chceli stihnúť ten skorší.

The train to Sighisoara cost $18 and going back only cost $6. The expensive train was 30 minutes faster. It also had AC but the windows are all down on the cheap train and a good breeze is blowing through, so that doesn’t seem to make a difference at this time of year. But the people in the cheap train are an order of magnitude different. They are not as visually appealing and several are missing a tooth or two. They had to throw a couple of guys off who apparently boarded without tickets. When I opened my computer to work on the cheap train, people sat and stared at me, like I was from outer-space. Nobody looked twice this morning on the expensive train. A woman I met in Bucharest told me that I had ... read more

On my last day with the Singaporean boys, we decided to head out of Brasov to the town of Sighisoara. We got a driver from the hostel, and on our way out of town we had to drop off our hostel host at the local hospital (I guess he was undergoing some tests). He told us some very interesting facts about the health care system in Romania. He was carrying his own plates, utensils, towels and food, which I had first thought that maybe the driver had left them at his place and he was returning them. That was not the case. In the Romanian public health system, you have to bring all your own stuff with you to the hospital. Even though some people pay a little every month to the government for health care ... read more

We went into Vlad Tepes house where he was born and is now a restaurant. We ate there. We went up a bell tower and I found my name. - Sofia On the way to our next destination, Sighisoara, we stopped by 2 small towns on the way to our next stop Sighisoara. The towns were Prejmer and Harman and both had really cool fortified churches. These were Saxon churches that were surrounded by huge walls to protect them. They were more like fortresses. Really cool looking. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It was now time to go to Sighisoara, the birth place of Vlad Tepes aka "Dracula". This was another medieval town. We stayed right in the center of the old town at Burg Hostel. We had planned to stay 2 nights here, but daddy heard there were a ... read more

I have learned the bartering rate in a village in Transylvania: my life and hand in marriage is worth four goats or one 10year old horse. I have been in this small farming village of Idicel for a few hours, and already my WWOOF host (Graham) has been asked by the locals if he would trade me for livestock so I can marry a drunk, toothless, peasant farmer.. I can’t believe Graham turned down an offer like that!.. According to the elderly village members, I wouldn’t be very good for breeding- like the Aussie volunteer, Annie- but I would be good for milking, and I could use more work. Why, you may ask, am I now being sold off as a working slave wife in a Romanian village? Alright, let me explain... As my spontaneous-self has ... read more

Hi All, We have had a great time since I last updated. We left Lake Balaton we went to Budapest (Would have stayed longer but the English bloke we met had cabin fever and wouldnt piss off). Budapest was lovely and easy to get around......in bare feet!. Just got into town and in the old section i.e miles from the shops and my flipflops (thongs to any aussies) broke. Luckily Scott was wearing my shoes - (make of that what you will!)--(Well they are hiking sandals actually)) so he gave me those and he walked in bare feet across the hot surface until I got some new ones (Which was a drama!! I mean F**king hell!! I'm standing in the burning tar and she was worried bout how they LOOK!!). We had a whole day in ... read more
