First of all an apology to everyone who knows me who I have annoyed over the past 8 or so months with daily reminders of how many, days, hours and minutes it is till I leave. If you know me well, you will know that to do this has always been a dream of mine. Well as I was coming to watch the might Wanderes play in Europe for the first time I thought I might as well test out this er Travelblog thingy. This is how I'm going to annoy you all while I'm away!! First if you ever get the crazy idea to do an overnight at stansted airport.... then don't! It seemed like a good idea at the time, you know, save a bit of cash etc. When I got to stansted, the ... read more

Beautiful. It's hard to say much else about it. This place left me speechless and at the moment the only word to descibe it is 'beautiful'. The people are incredibly nice and very mellow. Life in Porto seems good, peaceful, and happy. I had a hard time leaving this place, and in this place was the first time that it really hit me. I'm not home anymore. I am in Europe! I am in Portugal! I have seen two countries in one week! Crazy! I fell in love with Porto. I had never felt so content in my life. Sitting in a quiet bar with good company, sharing a local red, interacting with the people all made me realize why I came. At this moment, I realized why I have always felt the urge to leave ... read more

I have said my farewells (to family and friends - will post some photos up when I get them sorted) and now all that is left is final last minute buys that are necessary and stuff like getting my hair cut! I am sure you can get your hair cut in Saigon but I fear the language may be a barrier initially, so best to be safe than sorry and bald... Next entry will be written in Vietnamese ;) Take it easy.. and get commenting!!! Don't message me, comment!! No one gets to see your messages unless you comment! Oh yeah, if you have a hotmail account, make sure you ... read more

I got my plane ticket yesterday but I still had no visa!!! No visa means no trip!! I was going to obtain my visa through the Vietnamese Embassy in London but I was waiting on a letter to arrive from Vietnam (an invitation letter) which still hasn't arrived. Without this letter I can't apply for the visa. I decided to apply for a tourist visa through my travel agents, bearing in mind that I have a week left before I leave to sort this out! They obtain the visa through the Vietnamese embassy in Paris but said it would take two weeks!!!! Rita you saved my life when you mentioned that I might be able to get my visa sorted once I land there!!! :) So for any of you who are reading this, who are ... read more

Over one fall break, I took some time off in Portugal, where I visited Coimbra, Porto, and other cities. Judging by the three criteria mentioned in my profile, this country, in general, fulfills only one of them. The scenery of Portugal is very beautiful; the rustic old forts and cities remind me of the medevial times of Europe, when castles served many purposes. Driving along in a shitty Opel, we went from place to place, seeing mostly castles and ruins. Of particular interest was the ruins of the Moors, who conquered that area a long time ago. We stayed at the king's former hunting lodge, a magnificent castle built on hundreds of well kept acres, with gardens and waterfalls. The most disappointing part of the trip was the food - although on the coast, we could ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 6. Portugal 6th October 2004. Into Portugal from the North Santiago de Compostella, Baiona, Castro de Santa Tegra, Barca, Porto, Costa Nova do Prado, Figueira da Foz, Batalha, Obidos, Sao Martinho do Porto Travelling with only an outline plan pencilled on a sheet of A4 is a continuous adventure built upon expectations and reality, and shaping memories; new, exciting, revealing - and sometimes even disappointing. This week has not failed us as we journey south from Santiago de Compostella towards Lisbon. Come then weary pilgrim, sit beside me; waggle your toes in the cool sand and close your eyes. Picture out there beyond the Atlantic breakers of Baiona, the tip of the white sails of the Pinta on the horizon as Christopher Columbus returns from the Americas, a new land of hope ... read more

Camino de Santiago de Compostela - Portuguese Trail with Badajoz walking group. Total of 151km On my first trip away from home I decided to head for Spain, being my birth country and understanding the language. It gave me the opportunity to go on the Camino Portuges to Santiago de Compostela with the a Spanish walking club. This trip gave me the sensation that I must come and walk it again. A number or people on the trail stated this same feeling and a few were on their 2nd, 3rd and 5th trip to Santiago. So here is my journal notes, follow it along with me and see how you feel afterwards. Using capital letters for peoples names. Day 1. Travelled by bus from Navalmoral de la Mata to Badajoz. Slept at Az’s friend Victor's house, ... read more
