So on the request....food. For breakfast both in Spain and Portugal was a buffet. There were different kinds of cured meats....ham, and sausages. Much like on an antipasta platter. There was tons of bread with olive oil and garlic. There are pastries...croissants, prifitoroles (thought of you Vanessa). So much fresh fruit, eggs, great bacon! For dinner I stop at cafes. One night I had a great tuna empanada. Then there was a tosta with serrano ham and olive oil with a tomato type paste. That was so good. The meats are really good here. I had paella the one night. I didn´t have a seafood one because it had mussels and squid in it...no good. I had a really nice veggie one. Last night I ate a great meal! I had a fresh mozzarella app with ... read more

Hey all! I made it safely to Faro. It was a boring day of travel. Waiting in the train station, on the train, cab to the bus station, waiting at the bus station and then on the bus. I got here just fine. Lots of time to sit. It wasn´t very conducive to napping though. I wrote in my travel journal and that was about it. I checked in at Faro, have a great room, it overlooks the sea...or whatever it is. Its called a seaview room! Needed a shower. You know how travel is...sometimes you just need to relax. I then took off for about 2 hours walking around the town. It is very cute. I definately like it. There are lots of old buildings, etc. Dad would like all the Christmas directions. There are ... read more

It’s weird being out here in Portugal. Not the opening line you would expect is it? It’s weird having your parents pick you up at the airport in their British car and drive without needing a map or arguing over what side of the road to drive on. It’s weird driving to a camping and caravan site with a Pool, Supermarket, Restaurant, Bar and Yoga classes. It’s weird being met on the way in by a very smiley Nigerian woman called Gladys who knows all about you and has been waiting to see you. Its weird climbing into a caravan that you last saw parked on the driveway at home in England. It’s weird watching British telly while drinking a cup of Yorkshire tea after spending a day on a beach in mid-December. It’s weird, but ... read more

Christmas is coming As I write this Donna is annoying me by hanging dangly Christmas decorations above my head. She could seriously find herself part of a dangly decoration herself if she carries on. We have now arrived in Portugal at our Christmas site. It is called Turiscampo, and is near Praia De Luz where Madeleine Mc Cann went missing. Spain (like my ability to learn its language) has been and gone. The Spanish are very busy building roads and rail links at the moment which tends to blight the scenery somewhat. The toll roads are generally in pristine condition and unused, whilst the A roads are always busy. It was a bit of a whistle-stop tour of Spain really. As it got colder we decided to head further south chasing the elusive sun (yes ... read more

Having just returned from the WTM it was comforting to know that the many exhibitors from all around the globe and my fellow competitors feel optimistic about travel, despite the credit crunch. We appear to all be looking ahead to the 2009 season with caution but enthusiasm, as it is thought that holidays will be taken wherever possible to escape the doom and gloom in Britain. Would you tend to agree, cut your capacity but keep all options open, it will be a “late” market but people will still take a holiday? And during a quick nip to the loo, who should I bump into (literally) coming out of a cubicle, none other than Danni Minogue, she is tiny but stunning! Let’s hope she bought a little bit of The “X” factor to travel! ... read more

We have been Portugal for the past few days working and it has been a great experience. We stayed in Lisbon on Monday night and met a friend, Eliza, for dinner and drinks. The next day we met with one of our business associates, Jorge, and drove to the southern most area in Portugal called Algarve. The city we stayed in was called Faro and because the summer season was over the area was pretty empty. It is unbelievable the mass amounts of seafood consumed here…For lunch I had some large shrimp…It gave a new meaning to “peel and eat”, because the entire body of the shrimp was still intact…They were staring at me as if to say, “Don’t eat me”…I was trying not to gag but ended up really enjoying the little creatures…After lunch we ... read more

Well, I feel as if this year has been one big trip away from home. We have just returned from a weeks stay in Portugal. When the boys were young, we found this fantastic villa in Silves (old Moorish Capital of Portugal). It is owned by a couple that lived in Nailsea and my sister found the advertisement posted on the staff wall at her work place. We had never been to Portugal, so the first time was an adventure. We booked the flights independently and hired a car from the airport. We followed the directions carefully as written by Iris (the owner). The roads back then were terrible, real bone shakers and the portugese were the worse drivers ever encountered. We were on the road for about an hour and the scenery was great, the ... read more

I got back from an amazing weekend in Lagos last night around 10 pm and crashed into my bed head first and passed out immediately. We went with a tour company called Discover Sevilla, who had the whole weekend planned to guarantee plenty of booze, lots of sun, surfing, and VIP parties. We got there around 9pm on Friday which gave us plenty of time to get ready for the night ahead. We started off at Nah Nah Bah for dinner and a few drinks and made our way to Joe's Garage where free drinks and games were waiting for us. I took my shot of absinthe (ever) and almost lost my dinner because it was disgusting! My friend Kristen and I danced on the bar like there was no tomorrow, and drank free beer which ... read more

Day 15 - 16 - 17: Lagos - Faro First of all I would like to apologize. Yesterday evening we head into town just for a drink...you now how it goes....you meet some nice people, this time a little bit older than us, and you start sharing experiences...especially because they live in Alicanta You buy one...they buy you two back....you buy one again....I lost count. I swear to the liquor god, Dionysus and to Bacchus, that I will never, and mark my words, never touch the stuff again! So after five or so too strong cocktails somebody said us that the bar had wireless!!! Blogpost time!! Tapping away on the laptop I realized immediately that it was pointless to continue in this state so I posted it and all the picture just to rid of it ... read more

Alcoutim is an inland town on with a 14th century Moorish fort and Spain is on the other side, across the Guardiana River. The countryside is very sparsely populated and there is not much of interest around here -- but it was a nice drive and the town is pretty. We visited the fort and walked through the narrow. cobbled streets in this little hill town. We were looking for somewhere to have lunch and there didn't seem to be anywhere. Next to the church we went into a cafe which turned out to be spread out over about 3 or 4 floors with little dining rooms on each. We ordered the half portion for some reason -- actually, I ordered the half portion and they misunderstood Russell and he got the half portion too but ... read more
