Hi everyone, welcome to portugual!!! We arrivied late Friday afternoon, we are staying in the algarve coast which runs along the southern coast of portugual. The drive west was sadly uneventful as the weather was foggy and raining. Since Friday, we have not explored too much, because the weather has not been great, but luckily our cheap apartment is fully stocked including a somewhat decent indoor pool, other than that every household amenity we could need, including an English channel that covers some olympics for Andy. On the good days we've had we have managed to see quit a bit of this beautiful coastline, even though we haven't seen too much of the 300 days of sun they claim to get, it really is the most beautiful coastlines I have seen(Nfld not included of course!). LAGOS Day 17 Before getting on my bus to Seville I decided to take one final walk around Lagos. Overall, I found Portugal to be a lovely country to visit. For being one of, if not the poorest country in Europe it doesn’t show it. You see a few street beggers but nothing that you wouldn’t see in any city around the world. The cities, big and small, are kept incredibly clean and the people are friendly. I would recommend Portugal to anyone. Although Portugal has been enjoyable I must still stay on the move so that I can see as many places as possible. So I caught my bus to Seville. The scenery on the ride was beautiful. Lots of orange and olive fields. Arrived in Seville; a beautiful city. As I found my ... read more

LAGOS Day 16 Woke up to the bright sun shine! I headed for the beach to check the sun and see some of the grottos. The first beach I walked to was very close to the city centre and there were only 3 other people there: one women painting and two boys surfing. At the end of the beach were grottos towards the next beach over so I crawled through the grotto and came out on another beach. There were only 2 people at this beach so I headed towards the grottos at the end again and crawled through but the tide was too high and I couldn’t access the beach. So I decided to relax for a bit at the beach before walking further out of town to the other beaches. The sun was ... read more

LAGOS Day 15 Took the train from Lisboa to Tunes and caught another connection to Lagos. The train ride was about 5 hours but the scenery was amazing. About half way down to Tunes, the land started taking on a very dry desert look but still with a lot of grass and trees. Throughout the whole ride you can always see many orange mangroves. So much green and orange; it made me incredibly thirsty. I could see all the oranges that had fallen off the trees and were resting on the ground and it made me very sad to think no one was going to eat them because I was dying to. As we got closer to the south it started to get more mountainous, almost like a jungle. Then it turned into the orange ... read more

Friday 8.1.2010 Day 85 Portugal We did our washing and went for a walk to a fort along the cliffs it was a fantastic view (we forgot the camera) but we could not get to the fort by the cliffs so we went back and got the car it was not a very good fort and had been turned in hotel maybe by the government as they do that here some times. There is a bull fighting ring walking distance to our resort and on all our drives we see them in every town the size seem to be in proportion to the size of the town. None of the locals I have spoken to say they are in to it they all say they are in to football but someone must be going I am ... read more

Christmas break. Nearly 3 weeks of neither school nor work, I am now able to catch up on this blog, on all writings. The Puente was essentially my first predominately heterosexual road trip since family vacations. I learned a lot about my friends and also about myself. We left sometime around 2:30 in the afternoon. In the car were Izzy, Martin, Aaron, Aaron's friend Amy, and myself. We were heading to Aranjuez to meet up with Rachel and Thomas; and from there we would head south on the A-4 into Cordoba, our first stop on the trip. I chose to ride with Rachel and Thomas in the first stretch, even though I was technically pitching in €'s for the rental and gas for the other car. I enjoyed my time greatly with Rachel and Thomas. We ... read more
