Blog 8 - July 4 Happy birthday USA… Adventures with Reidar, a walk by the North Sea with Gandolf the Great! And an evening cruise on the Fjords where we live! Part 1 - Breakfast at Home I awakened, well not really as I’d been awake most of the night, to the smell of coffee. Shortly thereafter we all sat down to a delicious breakfast prepared by Chef Peggy and then headed off for a little exploring before cousin Reider was due to pick us for adventures further afield. On my short bike ride after breakfast I discovered a nice little beach off a walking path where we could enjoy our Fourth of July celebration in Norway. Stay tune for the video to be posted tomorrow. You won’t be disappointed! Part 2 - Adventures with Reidar! ... read more

Blog 7 - Wednesday July 3 BØMLO It seems I had forgotten to finish my blog for July 3...oops! It was our day of departure from Bergen and our landing on Bømlo and the grand adventure we were to have there! Not a day to be forgotten! The day had come - time to visit Lois’s family, the land of the Nesses, Bømlo! We arose ready for our next adventure. Lofoten had been amazing and the scenery spectacular beyond words. Our short layover in Bergen had also been a treat, but we were eager for the next chapter. Our Nescafé spokesperson, Isabelle, was up and chipper and preparing water for her Nescafé! We have teased throughout the trip for her traveling jar of Nescafé that she acquired early on. I turned down her offer of a ... read more

Travel blog 6 - Tuesday 2nd of July Bergen Rest, Refuel and some more.... oh and how about some RAIN Peggy arose early and took off to meet her brother and sister-in-law who were coming in by cruise ship early that morning. They were going up the monorail to the top of the “hill” that looks over Bergen. Meanwhile the rest of us had a leisurely morning at our BnB laughing and having yoghurt and drinking Nescafé. Lois discovered the vibrating recliner and was enjoying that - perhaps a bit too much ??. After a bit we headed out to pick up our bikes and go for a bike ride. Lois also wanted to check on the fast boat to Bømlo. The bike shop had our bikes ready and set us up with an app for ... read more

Travel blog 5 Monday the 1st - New Month New Adventure It appears Lofoten will say goodbye to us just as it greeted us - with wind and rain. However the islands have softened toward us though as the rain is a drizzle and the wind is mild rather that the rain and wind that pelted is our first day here. Our friendly cabdriver, the only driver where we were, arrived early to pick us up and escort us to the ferry. It seemed appropriate that it was cold and wet but not so windy. We loaded on the boat and Peggy immediately disappeared twisted to the back to fall asleep. Isabell, Lois and I found seats by the windows and waited for the kitchen to open. Breakfast consisted of cold waffles with strawberry jam, coffee ... read more

Kreuzfahrer hier vorbei kommen. ... read more

Bergen might hold the title of being Norway's second largest metropolis after the capital city Oslo, but owing to its location as the prime gateway to the Norwegian fjords, it comes as no real surprise that the place has put it in contention for the nation's most preferred urban area. There are a few factors which need to be considered when planning any trip to Bergen, one of them being the unavoidably high cost of living which manifests itself in just about every realm of spending imaginable, and another being the fact that this is a city with an average of 200 rainy days per year. Coming prepared then, is advisable, but in reality, you needn't worry too much, as there are ways and means of enjoying Bergen without pushing the (Viking) boat out too much, ... read more

Sad times as we head away from Norway and from family. After 5 weeks we must move on to Italy and Portugal to complete our visit to the Northern Hemisphere for 2018. Being the main purpose for our journeys is to catch up with Chris and all his extended family in Norway, it is always hard to leave. We do have so much fun with the kids and always enjoy the many activities that we do. Walks, both hard and easy, visiting places we haven't been before and a few social gatherings always keep us busy. After our visit to Oslo we meet the family in Voss where we did a fantastic walk up the valleys in Stalhiem. A great walk into an area of great views and dramatic landscapes. Diane surprised herself by crossing a ... read more

The Weather here has been a real mixed bag, but it hasn't caused a problem as we just put on wet weather gear for walking when wet and then when it is one of those beautiful sunny days we wear shorts and light tops. We have had an evening with our nephew, Lachie from Australia and his friend Nick, who are over here to work for Chris at concerts, as part of a few weeks off after completing studies. They have been joined by 2 other friends Harry and Dominic so they are now up at Voss doing some hiking and also enjoying the social scene I'm sure. So nice to catch up with Lachie who is now on his 3rd trip here to spend time with cousin Chris. I assume that he finds the social ... read more
