We're in Amsterdam now and in a few minutes we catch a train to Berlin (so I'll have to keep this short). I still can't add pictures because I can't access the USB port here. We had a good time in Brussels. We saw the peeing boy fountain and the Grand Place (which was absolutely amazing). We got there in time to have waffles for breakfast. Those were some damn good waffles! That night we went window shopping in the Red Light District. They have long narrow alleys that are lined with little rooms with windows. The whores stand in the window trying to entice you. It was very entertaining. Yesterday, we went to the Anne Frank house and I went to the Rijsmuseum and Charles went to the Van Gogh Museum. I've seen enough Van ... read more

What can I say, now that I've had a taste of combining blog entries into one big lazy smogasbord of adventure, I'm hooked. Besides, stop being so selfish...wouldn't you rather me have a good time than spend a bunch of man-hours chronicling it for just for you? The answer to that one was yes, by the way. Anyways, another good weekend hanging out, but with no travels on the agenda. Friday was chill, just some beers at the English pub called The Fiddler and then on to a dance club called Havana. The usual suspects included Eugene, Geoff, Shruti, and her friend Goulistan (did I spell it right?). We found that imitating other really bad dancers was way more fun and less embarassing than creating our own really bad dance moves. I also found out that ... read more

I convinced Andy to go and see Ann Frank's house this morning. I went there the day before yesterday and recommended all the boys see it. Well, Andy tends to be the only one who gets up before 10:00am on a regular basis. So he met me at my hostel and didn't even have to wait in the usual hour and a half line. He walked right in and met me afterwards to walk around the city and snap a few photos. We went to a juiceshop this morning and had some wonderful smoothies with fresh fruit and banana bread. The Dutch are some what of health nuts and so it is not hard to find good food around these parts. Last night we ate at a great Italian bistro on one of the canals while ... read more

HAy there soryy theres no photos as yet but I forgot the USb cable . We have only been on the road 4 days but it feels a life time since we left London. The weather has been kind to us and weve managed to stock up on plenty of wine and beer in France for the long northern journey through sweden and Denmark. It takes a bit of getting used to but I think ive gotten the hand of driving on the wrong side of the road and only had one near miss so far. Jos doing a great job on the navagation side and weve managed to have only 25 arguments about which way too go , so in all not bad !! Actually the roads so far have been easy . Our first ... read more

Ok, as I'm having a really hard time getting caught up with these journals, I'm just gonna start with now and work my way backwards, so that way you can at least get some up to date information and I can feel like I'm not so far behind. Be forewarned that the quality of my entries may suffer; I may resort to Laffy Taffy level humor. So, for a quick recap of this past week: Thursday June 2nd: I've started a European branch of the 'Thursday Poker Night's at Brian's Place' franchise which turned out to be a mixed bag of successes and utter failure. On the bright side, we had great turnout of 7 players and I've managed to turn a group of poker newbies into Texas Hold'em sharks who are even starting to speak ... read more

Given the vast amounts of hate mail/get to the point man messages I've gotten; instead of doing a day by day account of each beer sipped and each cigarette Sung smoked, here are the remaining highlights from our time in Amsterdam. Heineken Brewery Tour After prefunking at another bier cafe (I loved that we prefunked on our way to a brewery tour) we headed with John and Jill to the Heineken factory for a self guided tour and the grand pay off: According to Sung, we'd have 1 hour to drink all the Heineken we could consume. Oh joy of joys! The tour itself was rather underwhelming. Basically if you've seen the intro to Laverne and Shirley you've seen most of the tour... add a few stale beer making exhibits plus some skunky smelling furniture and ... read more

The last two days in Amsterdam have been very cool and a little bit too cool for our summer wardrobes. The hostel accidentally overbooked, and so the boys are splitting a hotel for the next two nights. Andy and I are going to Veneendaal tomorrow to see where Renate lives and just to get a breather from the hustle of the city. We leave on Sunday for Brussels. Not much else is new. The boys met some girls from Switzerland last night and should be meeting up with them tonight. (That brightened their day I'm sure.) We hope you are all enjoying the summer weather in Omaha and abroad. Thanks for all the e-mails dad, we're thinking of you often. Wanda and Netsy... read more

We arrived in Amsterdam late yesterday afternoon. Dylan joined us in Paris safely at Gare du Nord. (Mama duck, Jeanette, took a sigh of relief that we were all in the same place at relatively the same time) As we exited the station, Jeanette, like a true backpacker, tripped and was taken down on the cobblestone with her 35 pound backpack. I haven't had a skinned knee or elbow since I was like 5. Oh well, it had to happen sometime. I just wish it wasn't in rush hour traffic and at a street crossing. The boys definitely love it here, for reasons more obvious than I am wanting to explain. I for one, was excited for the Van Gogh museum and the Anne Frank museum. The canals became a bit confusing last night, as we ... read more

In the last week of April I was driving listening to the radio in Ireland. A garden expert was talking about some strange garden in Amsterdam, Netherlands called Guekenhof (Keukenhof). He extolled it dearly. It was May bank holliday weekend, I had not other plans. So I packed up my bags and went to visit Keukenhof. Flew by Rayan airways to Eindovan airport. Unfortunately 31st of april is Queens day and the whole of Netherland goes crazy, celebrating their queen. That means 3 hours extra wait in the bus stand for the Amsterdam connection ! while in the airport met this wonderful Korean girl Mira. Such a pleasant and lovely girl who really captured my goodness. She was a backpacer and just like any other backpacker - she was travelling on shoe string budget. During the ... read more
