Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757We wake early. Connie is already anchored off Sorrento. The port here is too small for a ship this size and so we need to tender ashore. We breakfast in the Oceanview. I opt for a low carb brekkie of omelette, freshly made at the egg station, tomatoes and mushrooms. As Elite guests, being a sister company to Royal Caribbean our Diamond Plus status gives us something similar on Celebrity Cruises, we don't have to obtain tender tickets and already have some in our room and we can go ashore whenever we like rather than an allotted time. Before long we have travelled the short distance from the ship to the small harbour that sits below Sorrento. The place is busy with small ferries and boats taking people across to Naples, The Amalfi Coast and ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757Phil and I joined a large group of KOB folks for a day trip to Capri. We met in the lobby for a bus ride to the Sorrento seaport to catch the high speed ferry for the 45 minute ride to Marina Grande on Capri. There we disembarked and immediately got in line to board another boat to sail along the north side of the island to the entry of the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra). The sail to the Blue Grotto took about ten minutes, and we passed a number of caves in the rocky cliffs on the way. Those caves did not look like they were large enough to go into. When we neared the opening to the blue grotto, we saw two other large boats with tourists waiting their turns to enter ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757We started the day with an early breakfast buffet. They have a separate one set up just for the KOB folks. It has all the usual items, and I expect it to be the same every time. The breads are particularly good, but everything is okay. There is not much fruit, but I think they would serve only fresh, seasonal items.Today, we hired a car and driver to take just the two of us around for the day. I booked them ahead based on recommendations I found on, and I definitely agree with others that the Iaccarino Sorrento Limousine service is wonderful. Enrico picked us up at the hotel right at 8 a.m. as planned although he started by apologizing for arriving that late. He said he likes to arrive fifteen minutes early ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757We had no activities scheduled today and spent the day exploring Sorrento. We slept through breakfast in the hotel. By the time we were ready to eat, it was almost noon so we waited in the bar for them to start serving lunch and ordered the club sandwich to split. We ate so much yesterday, that we want to go a little easier today.Philip and I walked into town for a day on our own in Sorrento. We wanted to see the museums starting with the Museo Correale di Terranova, farthest from our starting point. It is a wonderful, but small, museum in a grand old home showcasing mostly historical items from the local area. Although the building is a bit shabby with peeling walls and mildewed corners, the artifacts are ones that they ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757Today was the first group outing which was supposed to take us along the Amalfi coast all the way to the town of Amalfi. However, we only made it as far as Positano. Overnight last night, there was a giant rainstorm between Positano and Amalfi which caused a rockslide on the coast road. Since there is only one road going that way, we couldn't get past Positano. We saw and heard some rain at the hotel, but it did not seem as dramatic as what must have happened farther south. On the way to Positano, Philip and I had seats on the right side of the bus so we could see the sea and the precipitous drop-offs right on the edge of the road. At least a stone railing about two feet high lined ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757We saw a lot of familiar faces on all three flights, recognized some of them, and tried to match some of the others with the list of names of the participants on the trip. There are about one hundred people, both clients and employees, on the trip with KOB-TV. The timing on our flights was about as good as possible for a trip to the continent of Europe. We didn't have to leave Albuquerque until just after noon yesterday and had two 1½ hour layovers: first in Chicago, then Frankfurt, before getting to Naples sixteen hours after taking off on the first flight. On the leg from Chicago to Frankfurt, the flight attendant welcomed the group from KOB-TV when she did the usual welcoming of frequent flyer members. The flights were fairly good—economy plus on ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757So glad to see the sun again when we arrived in Sorrento. The ship moored off the coast and we were tendered in to the town. A shuttle bus took us up the very windy roads and dropped us off at the end of town. From here we strolled through the streets calling in at the Duomo and another basilica. There are many shops selling the lovely pottery of the region and also the beautiful marquetry woodwork. The local drink here is Limoncillo as there are many lemon groves. We opted for the usual beers as our pre prandial. Reluctant to walk back to the shuttle bus stop we continued walking to the edge of town for the wonderful view over the bay. Almost out of site is a tiny doorway leading to a ... read more

Geo: 40.6237, 14.381Today was our last full day in Sorrento. We had tossed up whether to do another day trip back to the Amalfi Coast or go to another island, or possibly Naples, but decided to simply take it easy and stay in Sorrento. We spent the morning wandering the town of Sorrento. We loved the area right on the coast, but were not so keen on the hotels and scenery once we moved away from the sea views. We wandered in and out of shops buying a few souvenirs before heading to the very pretty Cloisters for a look around. I had read about the Valley of the Mills on Trip Advisor so we then decided to find it before lunch. It turned out it wasn't far at all and we pretty well tripped over ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757 Another lazy, relaxing day today wandering Sorrento. We spent the morning poking in and out of shops and buying some trinkets for souvenirs. We then headed over the Marina Grande for our reserved lunch at Delfino that I had read so much about on Trip Advisor. The reviews were definitely not wrong! Lunch was totally delicious, as was the atmosphere and service at this restaurant. G started with an entrée of mussels and then we both had the catch of the day, which was sea bream that was simply grilled and then filleted in front of us at the table. It was served with boiled potatoes and broccoli. We finished off with tiramisu cake for G and lemon delicious cake for me. All washed down with wine of... read more
