Today was a laid-back kind of day, with little of note to report, apart from another nice experience at the English Inn for lunch, and our quest to find a local bakery within walking distance. We are expecting our friend from Rome to arrive by train tomorrow afternoon, and she will be staying with us overnight, so Dee wanted to buy some croissants to serve for breakfast tomorrow morning.
We stumbled along the Via Cesario and neighboring streets, believing there to be a bakery or pastry shop in that area. But I must have made a false mental note in my memory bank, as we could not locate any bakery. After twenty minutes or so of futile wandering and searching, we decided to take a break for lunch at the English Inn. It wasn't a total loss, however, as Dee stopped at a shop we had previously visited. There she purchased another excellent kitchen knife, and also found some little limoncello shot glasses for souvenirs.
When we arrived at the English Inn, Dee must have been wearing her big girl panties, because she agreed to climb the outdoor stairway to the upper deck seating area. She negotiated the two-dozen
steel steps like an Alpine mountain goat, which was no small feat given her bad right knee. This upper level, which is open to the sky above, is surrounded by some lemon trees, wisteria and other shrubbery. Today there were only a few patrons, so we had a very quiet and peaceful spot in which to enjoy our lunch.
We encountered yet another friendly, young Italian waiter (Daniel) that served us today, in addition to the two super-friendly guys that we'd already met (Fabio and Claudio). Our meals were simple, but tasty. I had roast chicken (with more of their fabulous chips), while Dee enjoyed a large salad. We lingered quite awhile over lunch and, during our chats with the waiters, discovered the location of a recommended bakery not too far away. So, on our way back home (and with a little difficulty), we did manage to locate the bakery and pastry shop where we purchased some croissants and
sfogliatelle, a delicious Italian pastry.
Dee's Comments: I was up at midnight for an hour, drank some hot tea, then up again at 3 AM, finally out of bed at 6 AM. At this hour the street below
is quiet, but by 8 AM the action begins. Made breakfast, then attempted another load of laundry since rain is in the forecast. It's a cool 58 degrees outside, and a little windy; getting prepared for our friend from Rome.
Went out to find a bakery, but got lost and finally gave up, deciding instead to have a leisurely lunch at the English Inn. After lunch we walked to a bakery recommended by the people at the Inn, and bought some croissants and dessert pastries. At this point, my little legs were crying out 'Le's go home!' After a light meal for dinner, went to bed early, hoping for some sleep. Today felt like a day at Boot Camp!

Your lunches looked amazing. I like Italian boyfriend #3, good choice Dee. What a photo of the cat, beautiful until you look at their eyes. Almost like, get out of my garden. Enjoy your guest that will be arriving.
