Well hello hello. Finally catching up with these blogs and hopefully this one will get me right up to speed. I arrived in Ireland laden with bags and walked directly into the welcoming door of my own home. It was such a relief that Richard had gotten everything arranged for our new place and had it all ready for my arrival. We have a tiny little 'bedsit' apartment about a half hour walk from work and downtown. Despite it's small size we are happy to have a clean warm place which is very conveniently located and are still laughing every night as we elbow our way into the twin bed. When the laughing stops it will be time to move to a bigger place but hopefully by then we'll be on our way back to ... read more

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. There are multiple reasons why I haven't. One I have been in a crappy mood and didnt feel like subjecting everyone to my rants. I wasnt getting very much sleep because there were some American undergraduate students in our dorm building and they were loud all night long every night! Also being nauseated all the time doesnt make you sunny happy. I am feeling much better now. I have dropped my internship which I really did not want to do but I was so exhausted all of the time I could not do it anymore. BTW why do pregnant women glow??? This is really not a lot of fun. You cant drink alcohol or caffiene, cant take headache medicine, food tastes funny and you change your mind about what ... read more

I had the opportunity to visit the southern side of Ireland for several times. My first visit was early of 2006 when I attended an exhibition/conference on transport and waste management. Unfortunately, it was a one-day engagement so I was not really able to explore the city centre. For the second time around, I joined my Irish friends to explore the coastal areas - from Donegal to Sligo. My third visit was a memorable experience one and I dont want to explain here what happen on that day, together with other Indonesian friends. But because of that unavoidable circumstances, I was able to have a quick tour of Dundalk - the town of The Corrs (the Irish singing group). My recent visit was last Easter break when my friends and I decided to stay overnight at ... read more

Took Joshy on his first ever flight...to Dublin! Everything went well until later on ( more about that in a minute !). We flew with Ryanair from Manchester and for the three of us it cost 6 pence...and that included all airport taxes and charges. Nobody believes us that it cost us 2 pence each return, but it was an offer Ryanair were doing a month ago by giving away 1 million free flights over a five day period. Apparantly, after we have checked in with them, the 6 pence gets refunded back onto our credit card, thus making the flight free! During the offer, we booked flights for the rest of the family to and from Dublin and we're going later this year in October for our wedding anniversary for a weekend away. Anyway, ... read more

Hi Everyone, I took the train early this morning from Dublin across Ireland to Galway, about 3 hrs. As I'm sure you imagine, it is very green, very pretty, flat/rolly land; beautiful landscape pictures. The weather is mixed-some rain, cloudy, overcast. The train ride was relaxing. Galway is a very nice smaller city/town-a pedestrian mall, waterfront, pubish, shopping area that was busy with all kinds of people. The hostel was much nicer than the one in Dublin; no matter what, I'm not a city person. I settled in, walked around, met some people from the hostel from the states and chatted. Walked around some more; checked out a few pubs. ... read more

The purpose of this blog is to record the progress made during my trip over the next few months. I will make my way down to Mache, Peru to assist in the development of an irrigation project. Hopefully I will be able to doa bit of travel here and there as well. I'm leaving for Dublin airport in a few minutes, so I'll leave it to further posts to go into detail. For the record, the weather right now is really terrible. This will be a rarely uttered phrase in the future, I hope! The temperature in New York is 30+ degrees and sunny. As time is short, here's to fun times ahead!... read more

Well guys its been quite a while since I sent out on of these things now hasn't it been. Really Ive just gotten so lazy. I have like 2 weeks worth of pictures and shit... and I just couldnt be asked to add them on here. Buuuut here we are, and yes... you can now check it all out. Alex and I took 2 weeks off from work at the end of may and headed Ireland bound to meet up with her folks. It was good times. The time getting there was interesting and definitely wore me out. we had no idea where we were going, only a couple bus numbers to hop on and a house name of where we were staying/meeting her family. So first impressions of the Irish... assholes. No help for ... read more

So I'm finally in Dublin, Ireland after an extremely long and confusing and frequently terrifying journey from LAX. In Atlanta, the flight was delayed from 8:30 (the original departure time) until 10 pm. I couldn't believe it! And all because one woman couldn't make the flight...though she was sobbing. So they had to take all of the luggage off, and reload it...they forgot to put one of the things with all the luggage on, so I'm in Dublin, smelling to high heaven with no luggage (i.e. no clothes, toiletries, etc.) until tomorrow, and I have to wait until 2pm (15:00 here) until I can check into my hostel, right across the street. C'est la vie, oui? However, it's beautiful, and I'm finally here! In the flight I sat next to a really interesting guy who immediately ... read more

Ange and I had decided we had been working too hard - so it was time for a few days off and an opportunity to see another part of the northern hemisphere. With five days off we decided to take the opportunity to duck over to Ireland to catch up with Ange's friend Lawrie - a fellow Tasmanian now based in Dublin - and to do a bit of sightseeing around Dublin and the southwest of Ireland. Once again we began our day with an early 5.30am start for the journey out to Stanstead airport and onto Dublin. It still surprises me the short distances between countries here. The flight is only an hour from London to Dublin - crazy!!! Well after a fairly uneventful flight, we arrived in Dublin to what could only be described ... read more
