This is our last day of hiking on the Wicklow Way. We ended our hike with a stirring 10.5 miles through some very beautiful country. This is lambing season and every pasture has the cutest little lamb hovering around their mothers. I scared 2 baby lambs who ran clear across the pasture to their mother. She came over to berate me but I told her Kathy did it. Kathy must have taken about 300 pictures of these lambs. How many pictures of baby lambs does one need. I guess the answer is more than 300. The weather was cool but dry thankfully. Most of the hiking was along forestry or farm access roads but still the hiking is good. Very challenging up and down the hill sides. Good training for our AT hike in MAY. We ... read more

This is day 3 of our hike and we are starting out of Laragh and headed to Glenmalure to stay 2 days at the Coolalingo B&B downtown. After our 20mile exercise yesterday, we were hoping for a cool 8 mile stroll through the beautiful mountains of Ireland. We finally hit the trail at about 11:00AM after a short visit at the Wicklow Way Visitors Center where the pleasure of seeing their display would cost us 9 euros each. We decided to "move on down the road" so to speak. Ireland is such a beautiful place with their rolling hills and sheep dotting the countryside. Oh....did I mention that it was raining. We were making some good headway along some logging roads when the weather turned bad. Shortly afterwards we found ourselves transversing the side of one ... read more

This is day 2 of our hiking and my legs are up for it...until I find out that today is a 20 mile hike. I had been reading the literature wrong and we were halfway up White Hill mountain when I found out the bad news. Holy cow that's a long way. We were overlooking the Guinness estate and I was tempted to go see if I could join them for a brew. Kathy convenced me that they would not appreciate me just showing up uninvited and that all would be okay. As always she was right! Geeerrr!!! We also so saw the Powerscourt waterfall which is about 300 ft...excuse me...100 meters tall. I think that was the last thing I remember until I had a pint of Guinness before me about 9:00PM. We did eventually ... read more

Day 13 Luck was with me again today. I seem to have the luck of the Irish. Last week as I was travelling south the prevailing wind was north west. This week As I travel north the wind is from the south west. I am sailing along. I had a good run through Wexford with the sun in my eyes as I crossed the river with some very nice views of the city. The coast road was undulating but only needed my 'granny' ring twice all morning. At Killmuckridge I stopped at a nice cafe where it appears they get a lot of cyclists since there was a pump and spare tubes in a box outside. I had the biggest scone ever with raspberry jam and cream. I will never lose weight. The sun continued to ... read more

I only had a few days free, so jumped on a plane to Dublin and decided to hike a small portion of the Wicklow way. There are 2 ways you can start, either at Maryland park in Dublin or walk the coastal path. I took the coastal path and off I went. In my mind I never expected Ireland to have a beach but it showed me. Along the coastal path, were small stretches of beach, nature reserves, parks, the view constantly changing. A shuttle follows the line of the coast, so if you get tired, you can just pop on and get off at Bray. I settled down in Knockree hostel for the night, a few miles from the small village of Enniskerry. New day, new adventure. Woke up birds singing and sunshine pouring through ... read more

The Wicklow Mountains are considered the garden of Ireland and for good reason. When people think of Ireland, everyone thinks of going to the west coast and seeing the Cliffs of Moher and Ring of Kerry, but I would say that missing out on the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough is a big mistake. The mountains are one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. I would rank it my number 2 favorite behind the most impressive Dingle Peninsula. That's right, I think it is better than the famous Ring of Kerry. My tour through the Wicklow Mountains and onto Glendalough was great and made even better by the fabulous tour guide. On the tour, I saw the tallest waterfall in Ireland. We also saw were scenes for P.S. I love You were shot and Braveheart. Yes, ... read more
