Glendalough- Glen of Two Lakes On this past long weekend I decided to use one of my days off to take a bus tour around the Wicklow Mountains. The bus picked me up at 9am and took a short drive around dublin before we headed for Wicklow. The driver was really funny and did his very best to get everyone excited for the journey on an early sunday morning. First, we headed to Laragh, which is a small village just ouside of Glendalough. On the way there we drove through Dalkey where Bono lives and another small village where Daniel Day Louis lives. Apparently, he was in town just the other weekend and when someone asked him why he loves wicklow so much he said "it is my sanctuary" and that was all he said. ... read more

It's over. Our relationship just hasn't been working for a while, and now, this is it. I'm leaving you to find my inner pig. I know this isn't a good time. Fact is, I cannot continue being second best. That said, I just can't continue with this relationship any longer. I am going to have some fun, let my hair down. I will be in touch with you soon. Yours PIG... :) ... read more

Wicklow Mountain Adventure 15/05/2009 We decided we wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of gorgeous Dublin and take a tour through the countryside. To make sure that we get space for the tour we got up really early, and very glad we didn’t go to the club last night. We took the scenic route through St Stephens Green which is the nearest park to where we stayed and were amazed at how beautiful it is! It’s like a little Eden in the middle of Dublin, with huge trees, small walkways and bridges over the streams that criss-cross the park, there is even ducks and swans on the water. It’s still early and the fine drizzle and mist made the park look like it escaped from a fairy tale. It’s 7°C, but because there ... read more

THE WICKLOW WAY The Wicklow Way is Ireland’s most popular way marked trail- winding over 100 kilometres through the high heather hills south of Dublin. It’s proximity to the city means that at its northern end at least, it gets a fair amount of traffic. That said, as its Ireland, it’s still very quiet and you can walk for miles without meeting more than a handful of fellow travellers. In the past year we’ve walked both ends but for some reason we never managed to cook up a plan to do the remoter ‘middle bit’ south of Glendalough between Aughavannagh and Moyne. Just after Christmas we resolved to do something about this mental Bermuda Triangle and got ourselves sorted with some accommodation in Aughavannagh valley in the pretty Aughavannagh Cottage - a lovely Irish cottage to ... read more

We arrived at Dublin airport and Anne was waiting for us at the arrival gate camera in hand taking a very bad shot of a scraggly looking Soph and Owen. Thanks! Owen had arranged to hire a car for our time in Ireland, they drive on the left hand side of the road and we weren’t staying in central Dublin so a car was really the best way to get around. We headed off to find our way to Enniskerry, which is a very small town around 20 mins outside of Dublin, in other words out in the country. The hostel we were staying in was called Knockree Hostel and was a 5-10min drive out of Enniskerry, it was a fantastic Hostel which had only just recently been established and the staff there were great. Mittwoch, 20. August 2008 Glendalough, Ireland Hi everybody. I’m glad you’re checking my blog again. Sorry I didn’t update in the last couple of days but I couldn’t find an internet connection. So here we go on a longer blog. Let me start out with where we’re at right now. We managed to get into Glendalough. A small town 30 miles south of Dublin. Which means we’re are back on the east coast of Ireland. After Doolin, where we had a very rainy night, we hitched down the road towards the Cliffs of Moher and Kilkee. We had a French couple picking us up and they drove to all the places you should see as a tourist. I’ll try to upload some pictures. It was amazing looking down these cliffs into the wild Atlantic sea. After ... read more

Let me just begin by saying that I am no good at coming up with super creative blog names. I noticed that many other bloggers on the web have the most creative, interesting, mysterious, draw-you-in blog entry titles that always put mine to shame. So, in order to try and fit in with all the cool bloggers I changed this entry from 'Airshow weekend in Bray' to something about a plane flying into a ferris wheel. Pretty sick huh?I mostly do this so I can have more interesting blogs for yourself to read, and realize that it is slightly immature and corney but I do it all for your literary enjoyment. You can try it too. When thinking about writing about something that happened, instead of just writing what you did, try discussing the main event ... read more

Well, our final day of holidays... tomorrow we fly home... we've had an amazing trip but are looking forward to our pillows and pug. Yesterday we continued driving through the South coast of Ireland. A beautiful country... although I never thought I'd see so much rain in the summer!!! Apparently Dublin was flooded out the day after we left - let's hope it is back to normal when we arrive tonight! We will be in contact with most of you shortly! :)... read more

So, I have been driving in Ireland for 4 days now. Here is a list of my lift of the good, the bad, and the ugly of driving while Irish. The Good -Respect for the passing lane!!!! People DON'T sit in the passing lane forever on the freeways here! -New and well maintained roads. Apparently the EU has spent a lot of money to update the road system here, well worth it! -Polite and confident drivers. They won't run you off the road, but they'll beep a little if they have to. (and with me in a roundabout, they had to) -I am driving a great little Toyota Corrolla, very nice! (no AC though) The Bad -Shifting with my left hand. It is very difficult to be shifting with your left hand and trying to use ... read more
