Hi All, At last our big adventure has gotten underway. We set off on Thursday morning (We'll skip the leaving ceremony) from Home, Navan, and the first stop on our illustriuos and exotic adventure was the local school to vote on the Lisbon Treaty - none too exotic or illustrious. The next stop was the local filling station to pump up what I considered to be a slow puncture, which soon turned out to be a very quick puncture and so the next stop on our journey was to the local tyre fixing man. Three stops in and we were still within spitting distance of Navan, oh well. The offending screw was dealt with, in no uncertain terms and now has to live out its days rusting away on the side of the a-fore mentioned tyre ... read more

Having arrived yesterday in Ireland and made for Waterford, the intention was to stop over in a Hostel for one night and then continue on my journey to Cork. Unfortunately, a Kiwi by the name of Hamish from Ragland, NZ got in the way. What was meant to be a quiet drink down the pub ended up being 8 pints of Guinness followed by shots, talking about his Dad's farm with 11000 sheep on it. You just don't plan these things. In view of the maheusive headache I am now enduring I have therefore decided to take the whole day off and let my body recover before I continue to Cork tomorrow. This will also give me a chance to update the blog with pictures from Wales and Bristol.... read more

Being that today was Chet's first day driving on the "wrong" side of the road, he did so well! I will let him recollect today's journey when he gets online tomorrow. He is fast asleep, because today was such a big day. I wanted to post pics from the trip Grandma took us on, on Sunday after church. We drove up the Rhein and saw various castles and got to see one of the most famous sights, the Lorely (a large cliff named after a legend). Legend was, that men steering ships would look away from their course, to see her singing, and would be so distracted that they would crash their boats in the rocks or get stuck in whirlpools. We even got to have cheesecake with Grandma, at a CASTLE-overlooking the Rhein!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tired, ... read more

has been a while since I have updated my blog. This is for 2 reasons 1) I haven't traveled anywhere exciting and 2) I don't have internet in my apartment so I have to do this from work. I am leaving today to go to Venice for the weekend, so I will have plenty of pictures for my next blog entry. I flew back to Ireland on July 1st. It was an uneventful trip, but it was the day after the Scotland airport car bomb so everyone was on high alert. I moved into my apartment, which is very nice. No internet though so that sucks. I have gone grocery shopping and have attempted to wash clothes in my washer/dryer unit that is the size of a small dishwasher. The normal cycle takes about 3 hours ... read more

Top o' the mornin to ya lads, After I finished my research paper for class on Saturday, I decided it was time to see some of the Irish countryside. I drove down to a small city along the coast called Tremore. It was only about a 15 minute drive and relatively easy to find. Tremore was much different than I expected. There was an amusement park and the streets were lined with arcades, games and what looked like a boardwalk. It felt like what I think Coney Island must have been like in the 1940's. It was definitely a local hangout for teens and families. The beach had some sand, but nothing like Florida. It was overcast and pretty cool so I didn't even try the water. I headed back into Waterford, had dinner at a ... read more

After attending class on Saturday, I left for the KC airport. Flights were fairly good. Delta did not provide individual TVs so we all had to look at the public TVs attached to the roof. I, of course, had the seat where the TV in front was too far and the one closest to me was above my head. I think I caught most of the movie, but I will have to watch it again to fill in some of the details of which I couldn't see. We landed in Dublin about an hour late because of head winds so our gate was not ready. We deplaned the entire 767 by a staircase and we were loaded on to buses. Not a big fan of that since I was one of the last people off of ... read more

We set out early and decided to stop in Ros Mare for breakfast. We ordered two traditional Irish breakfasts and the disappointment in Kevin’s face when he found out that black and white pudding was not the Jell-O pudding that he was used to was truly priceless. From there we headed to Waterford and took their factory tour. It was very interesting and the skill and time that it takes to make each piece was amazing. From there we drove on to Blarney. We walked through the castle and grounds and even kissed the stone despite the rumors we had heard about it. We had a great lunch in a pub in the center of town and had a lot of fun just people watching while we enjoyed our meal. We had made a reservation at ... read more

Waterford.. So much pretty glass, why does glass have to be expensive and heavy and break?! For those that dont know, Waterford here in Ireland is home to Waterford Crystal, worldfamous for their glassware, they make all the sporting trophys that you see at the tennis and golf and the Ashes cup and their stuff is so beautiful hey, I spent so long in their gift shop wishing I could buy it all but finally deciding on a pair of champagne flutes and white wine glasses, presents to myself for my 21st.. And got them shipped home for free so cant complain about that! My hotel here in Waterford is right on the river and the view is fantastic, not much else really to report from Waterford, main reason for the visit was Waterford Crystal, am ... read more

Sorry to have been absent with my updating...I had what i thought were issues with my camera and then with my internet connection, but those have been resolved now. It was my own darn fault. Silly me! I've had a nice few weekends...I went on a nice trip in between the last post and this most recent trip but I have yet to get the photos. Will post that trip soon. This weekend, I went on another road trip through the county of Tipperary. Went to the Mount Melleray Abbey in Cappoquin. It was a gorgeous church run by monks who have taken vows of silence. We wandered the grounds and went through the church. There were certain sections for the monks to sit and pray and there were a few people there taking it all ... read more
