Running outside in Syracuse the most interesting thing I'd come across would be the occasional dead cat on the side of the road. More than being interesting, it was smelly and a reason to pick up my pace so as not to have to be near it. Here, running outside I enjoy green grassy rolling hills, horses, cottages and once a heard of sheep blocking my path. I ran up on them, expecting that they'd part and let me through, but they all just stared at me, willing me to go back to where I came from. I suspect they were feeling the benefits of security in numbers. I jogged in place asking them politely to please let me through, but from the baaaas and blank stares I knew they weren't going to budge. So then ... read more

Each time I thought I had a work exchange something would happen at the very last minute and they wouldn't be able to help me. The internet is an unbeatable tool, but sometimes good old fashioned word of mouth is the way to get something done. By this age old technique is how I am now living in a mansion in the countryside earning my keep. When I say mansion I mean gated driveway, west wing, pluch red carpets, chandaliers, heated floor tiles in the bathrooms and a fluffy bathrobe of my very own. Give this all to someone who will sleep on your floor and be prepared for disappointing housework. I half expected breakfast in bed to be brought to me the other morning. Honestly, this is a pretty unbelieveable gig and I will gladly ... read more

Kellsissä pysähdyttiin päiväkahville.... read more

We arrived in Newgrange yesterday evening around 7pm at the Newgrange Lodge where we would stay for one night so we could visit…. You guessed it….Newgrange!! The lodge is a budget accommodation hostel and is only 1 minute walk from the Newgrange visitor centre. Our room was small but perfect for anyone checking in at 7pm and checking out the next morning at 9am. Breakfast was continental and we made sure we had enough to set us up for our long day. The previous day had been nice and sunny and we passed through towns such as Longford, Mullingar, and Navan on route from Ballina. I had never really been through Co. Meath and was surprised at how scenic it was. The roads were small and windy and lined with big trees or 7ft walls from ... read more

We've had three beautiful days in Ireland. What a difference from NYC. When we left NY on Thursday it was in the 90's and humid. We arrived to what felt like a fall day. People here are always talking about the weather. I guess I would too if I had to turn the heat on during the summer. Friday night we had fish and chips from the chipper. I had my favorite, a chip buddy. Buttered batch bread with fries in it. Yum Yum... There aren't many other options for vegetarians. After dinner we went out for a proper drinking sessions at Kelly's in Ashbourne. The bartender actually recognized me as Conor's girlfriend. Now that's the sign of a good bartender. Not bad for having only met the guy once or twice before. I was impressed ... read more

Travel day! Mark looked out the window and said, “Very overcast, evidence of rain on the street.” Well, not like we’re not used to that! We got ourselves packed up, put on clean clothes (the laundry did come back), ate breakfast and were on the road by 8:40. We were shooting for 8:30 so for us, we were early! We took the left turn again but at the first roundabout we saw a sign for Dublin, back the way we came. So we circled around and headed into the city of Limerick which wasn’t too bad. We were clear of the city by about 9:10 and onto the N 52, a National (rural) Road. The speed limit was 100K and we should have been in Dublin in about 2 hours. But due to rain (which was ... read more

What can I say. There are thouse of you, I am sure, that have had a calling to Australia, America or even Cavan... What ever the calling has been, mine has alway been Canada. Don't know why... maybe its the attractive Deer ver there or maybe the vastness of the country. Where you could ask the other half to walk over that hill, over there and never see them again. I just cant put my finger on it ;-) But my dream has come through. I am going to Canada. Not for a week, not two weeks, but four. (If your gona do it... do it right). This is where we will give you a taste, an inside view on what its like to be a paddy (Indian paddy) going around a country a little bigger ... read more

Our original plan was to drive into Dublin, see the sites and then drop Jessie at the bus station to head back to Galway. We decided to skip Dublin since we had been told it is near impossible to drive in Dublin due to the traffic. Instead, we drove Jessie back to Galway. It was only a 2 1/2 hour trip from Trim to Galway, and we needed to do some more shopping. We thought we would be able to find gifts everywhere we went, so we did not buy everything in Galway and haul it around the country for two weeks. Unfortunately, we were wrong. So this gave us a chance to pick up all the gifts we needed to get, spend a little more time with Jessie and still get back to Trim at ... read more
