Hello everyone from Ennis in County Clare on the West Coast of Ireland! I landed safely in Dublin on Sunday afternoon after spending most of the morning at the airport. I decided to take the city bus in the city centre in order to get a sense of the city. The main street seems to change its' name about 5 times before I got to the hostel where I was staying the night. I just took the time to do some laundry and get ready for my next adventure around Ireland. I actually met a girl from Australia who was staying in the same room as me who actually ended up on my tour. We checked in for our tour with Shamrocker Adventures on Monday morning early. There are 29 of us from Canada, Australia, Denmark, ... read more

Geo: 52.0579, -9.50747We passed through Castlecove that had old cottages from the era of the Potato Famine. However, you would never now that they were cottages. Almost all of the 5-6 cottages that we saw were completely covered with plants. One still retained that shape of a cottage, while most of the others had fallen apart and were now large mounds of plants with stonework sticking up through the plants. We passed some sheep dogs herding some sheep back to the barn. I hope we still get to do the optional sheepdog demonstration. Overall the drive wasn't bad; the weather could have been better. I thought the drive would be about 3-4 hours. It took us just about 6-7 hours! We made it back into the city about 3:30. We were dropped off to take our ... read more

Up early 7am had that great breakie and off I set to drive the ring of Kerry It’s a road that leads you all the way around the county of Kerry. Along the way I passed through several quaint little towns and a few larger country towns. I passed many a beautiful lough , the amount of water they here it just in abundance. The ring of Kerry also took me through lovely little coastal areas and when I looked back at where I had came from there was the odd house nestled in the side of the mountain some of them with blacked socked sheep very cute. The scenery is just spectacular I can’t emphasize enough to anyone if you are going to Ireland stay at Killarney and make it a few days at least. ... read more

Geo: 52.0579, -9.50747Adare to Killarney, County Kerry, Republic of IrelandWe entered County Kerry about 2:45 and stopped for a group photo on the outskirts of CastleIsland about 3:00. It was a very nice viewing area. 15 minutes later we made a stop that I can best describe as an obvious scam. We stopped in the town of Fossa (suburb of Killarney) at a place called Macken of Ireland. Dylan mentioned that if you wanted to buy something special for yourself or someone else this would be the place to do it. I must say after looking at the prices on the tags, I must really really, really, really love myself or that special someone! € 480 ($720) for a Cashmere sweater, a simple scarf was € 24 ($36), and a bracelet that a woman on our ... read more

Geo: 52.0579, -9.50747Killarney, County Kerry, Republic of IrelandIt is in the heart of the shopping district. According to the clerk at the convenience store in Fossa (I walked across the road to grab some water and a Snickers and chatter her up for a bit), this place has many live music pubs. We passed one just a couple of blocks away, so after dinner I am going to look for it. Dinner was at 7:15 in a buffet style. They had a salad bar, fruit bar, a desert bar, and a hot food area (fish, chicken, and roast beef along with broccoli, mash potatoes, yams, and vegetable lasagna). I had the roast beef with mash potatoes. Boy was that beef tender. I ended up having 2 slices of it. I also had a salad and a ... read more

Wow! None of us can believe that the tour is almost over! It has gone way too fast but we have had a load of laughs and even more brews! Southwick's, Guiness, of course, Murphy's, Harp's and good old Irish coffee. We fear that starting the day w/ a cup of that could be a bad thing!!! Today started with a with a leisurely jaunting car ride through the Killarney National Park to Ross Castle for views of Lough Leane, the largest of Killarney's famous lakes. Then on to the Ring of Kerry drive where every bend in 100 miles of road reveals breathtaking views of mountains and Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately, shortly after the ride began, it also began to, well, what we have begun to call "liquid sun". After returning to the hotel, we then ... read more

Got up early to leave Lahinch and headed down to the beach...it was gorgeous! It was nice to put my toes in the sand and feel the Atlantic ocean, it was SO cold...my toes turned pink. Drove to Killarney took about 2hr and Jared went through like 10 roundabouts, he's becoming a pro at driving, not sure how he'll do when we get back home. WATCH OUT! ;p Our hotel Killarney Royal was nice, we had a doorbell..and the only hotel so far that has a real key. Checked in and went waundering Killarney, lots of little shops, bought some gifts and had lunch at a sandwich shop. Came back to the hotel, I needed a quick nap..I've been waking up at 530am. After mynap went back out and looked for a place to have dinner. ... read more

We were so excited to see all the comments for our trip, they were wonderful and fun to read. Today we saw the Ring of Kerry (it is a place, not jewelry) had an Irish coffee. Saw sheep being hurded, it was very cold, had an Irish coffee which warded off the chill. Saw beautiful beaches and had a Bailey's coffee, contemplated a dip in the ocean but forgot our wet suits so had an Irish coffee instead. Had lunch off the fisherman's wharf (Port McGee) from a waitress nazi, found an Irish laddie at said port (Mihal "Michael" O'Sullivan), slipped off our chairs but didn't spill a drop. Got back on the bus and full speed to the church! Rang the bells at church with Irish coffee in hand, but Father O'Malley said it was ... read more

On Wednesday our group (6 day tour) split with the 3 day tour group leaving us with about 14 people which I found to be a much better number. In the morning we went on a horse and cart ride through Killarney and to Ross Castle. We had a chance to go for a walk around the castle and get a few photos. On the way back I got to ride up front in the horse and cart. I was having a chat with the man 'driving' the horse and cart and he ended up giving the reins over to me and I got to 'steer' for half the way back. It was pretty good fun! The rest of the day was spent driving around the Ring of Kerry. We drove in a big ring (hence ... read more
