How sad - it is our last day on this amazing ship. It took me a while to find my mojo on this luxury cruise ship but eventually I found like minded people and that makes all the difference. This morning we were awoken as we pulled into port at 6:30am in Reykjavik. I got up and started getting myself organised to disembark. Breakfast was delivered for the final time to my suite and I said my farewell to Sonal. By 8 I had checked out and collected the video/photo package I had purchased and then I waited for Barbara on Deck 5. Barbara had organised a taxi to collect her and she was going to give me a lift. She could only give me a lift to her hotel and once we now had good ... read more

No a aby toho nebylo dost, tak plachetnice během noci nekam odletla, protože v pristavu uz nebyla. Zrada.

Coz bychom i s mym brichem ještě splnovali, ale v okoli ... read more

I don’t know about others, but I was looking forward to enjoying the warm soothing waters of the Blue Lagoon after yesterday’s belabored walking. It wasn’t that the walk should have been tiring; but, for me it was. It’s bad enough to have the chronic problem with my heel, which at least is being addressed with better arch supports, but I have two toes on one foot that hurts, ankles that seem to like to lock up and knees that seem like they sometimes won’t support me. My legs try to compensate for all of these afflictions, and it makes them very tired in the process. Perhaps today I will get some relief. I awake to Sharon telling me that I will be on my own today. She decided to stay back and enjoy some quiet ... read more

I wasn’t feeling all that chipper to start our first day in Iceland, and no doubt my upset stomach was due to far too many glasses of wine the previous evening. Sharon got me one of her peppermint Tums after I returned from the shower; and, that did seem to help. I probably should have taken one last night. Temperatures were warmer than Greenland with the possibility of showers. Sharon had booked us on a “Golden Circle” private tour with about a dozen other people. Duncan and Pam were also booked on this same tour. A hard roll sandwich is becoming “go-to” choice for tour early tour days; and, Sharon was happy to get another large chocolate croissant with her toast and potatoes. This morning I opted for two of their small chocolate milks to wash ... read more

Ok, I'm back in Ottawa for... like 32 hours haha. Sunday I'm heading back out and flying to the west coast, so I'll be back with the blog then. As for the Europe part of the trip with Mom, that sadly came to an end yesterday - it was glorious to wake up in Iceland on my birthday and eat all the skyr I wanted though :) It's been a really great time travelling with Mom - it's bun fun showing her some of my fav spots and discovering some new ones along the way. I'm really lucky that we travel well together (although I'm sure there are some times she could have lived without my desire to walk everywhere haha). Our flight was only around supper, so we had the morning for me to show ... read more

Although mid July is a few weeks past high summer in Iceland (64 degrees north) the sun doesn’t really ever set at this time of year. The most darkness you seem to get is a sort of twilight at 1am or so, so for light sleepers heavy curtains are a good idea. We have 8 days here on a stopover between Central America and the UK and our friend Jackie joins us for 6 of these. We have hired a car to get around (you really do need to do this) and by a stroke of good fortune have been upgraded to a vehicle that we are permitted to drive on the unsealed highland roads, known as “F” roads. Unusually for us we have booked all of our accommodation in advance, partly to try to keep ... read more

Woke at 5am to pack up our scooby-do mobile. :) Went to the IStay building where we were to return the van and meet the owner at 6:30 am and no show. Finally gave in turned on the cell phone and called him a call at 6:50 and got him out of bed. 5 min later a kafoogled terribly late business owner with hair all over the place and zipper undone. “ I am so sorry, I slept in”. We made it to the airport in record time .... 7am then waited... waited in line to give our baggage, waited in line to give our odd shaped bagggage then in line to the gate and then in line to the bus. ... read more

A to mel teprve prijit hlavni chod. Brod. A ted si odmyslete ten most. Sranda, co? Trochu me uklidnovalo, ze po ... read more

Landed successfully, at 7:30am, grabbed our luggage and some duty free so we could have a night cap then we waited for Wild Campers to come pick us up. He was running a little late but arrive to the big smile and some excellent suggestions on killing some time before our blue Lagoon visit. We went to the wild campers logs where are you tall young man told us all about the van and the roads in Iceland. He and his wife both the company and a small campsite right next to the office building. Inside the office building he has a self serving breakfast bar where axle grab a coffee. Just on the hill there are four or five contemporary looking cottages that he rents out. After finishing all the paperwork and everything that needed ... read more
