(Long blog; lots of pics; enjoy what you will) Arrived about 10 AM. Found a good place to sleep on the ferry, that was nice. Deviating from my original plan, cut a day out of Kos, so I'm early to Rhodes & got a hostel in Old Town. Very hot! But otherwise, Rhodes is cool. Old Town is a fortified (walled-in) city. It's pretty big, elaborate labrynth of cobblestone streets, some wider, sometimes opening to bigger squares, some incrediblely narrow. To enter Old Town, you cross (what may have been a moat?) bridges to enter through "gates" which are arched short tunnels (the shade is great!). It's incredible how some of these people's houses seem to be built into the walls. It's really bizzare how you walk down these narrow streets & just see some ... read more

We walked into Rhodes today and spent some hours exploring the old town after dipping our feet ceremoniously in the Mediterranean. Greece appealed. The people are friendly and speak English, the shops are good, prices of food are more reasonable than we have previously experienced, the weather is hot and glorious, and it is beautiful. How could you go wrong? It was really interesting to walk through and experience this whole thriving community that live on and amongst ruins dating to the 4th century B.C. We also toured the Palace of the Grand Masters, an odd and fascinating collection of British, French, Roman and Byzantine art and history. -Erica ... read more

How time flies when you're having fun!! Can't believe I'm nearly half way through my time here. I definately know I'm in Rhodes now as I carry a torch with me at night - there are so many power cuts in the old town, have experienced about 4 in the past couple of weeks. Thankfully most of them are when you are in your bed, 1 time was when I had just ordered a drink and a snack, thankfully it happened after the snack had been cooked so I didn't have to wait a further 40 mins to eat!! Also you know you are in Greece when the government staff places close down early on certain days of the week to conserve energy from using all the air con machines!! They go on strike quite a ... read more

Well here I am - nearly at the end of my 6th week here!! How time flies when you're having fun!! Have had a few nights out, some of the photos from one of them are on the website www.photoshow.net/callefix. I'm in the background of some of them, the site does take a while to download them all if you're not on broadband and it takes a while to get through all of them, so would not suggest you do it it work time!!!!!!! We had a day out in Afandou last week (there was another girl from the bank over on holiday - won't divulge her name!!), went to the beach during the day and had a swim and sunbathe and then went up into the town at night with the idea of having a ... read more

We took a tour in Rhodes, Greece today. About 40 of us, climbed on a bus to see some historical sites and check out some stores. Nearly had a big problem with a lady on the bus who started ranting and raving that I had taken her seat (funny, I didn't know we had seating assignments. Oh yeah, that is because there were none.). We had a nice laugh about it, but strange, she didn't find it the least bit entertaining. I can't name each of the places visited (but i will find them out), however we went to a great souvenir shop and jewelery shop. We bought perfumes that normally retail in the US for 40-60USD for less than 5 bucks! Sweet! :) The tour ended with us having some authentic Greek food. Umm, ... read more

We missed the 9am boat to Lindos, so we took a bus instead. The journey was 1hr 20mins. We took a donkey ride up to the Acropolis of Lindos. It was very exciting. The donkey tends to walk very close to the edge of the cliff. The one i was riding was only 6.5 yrs old, Anthony's donkey was 13 yrs old. they're still considered young donkeys. Next was to the beach.. we were all geared up for swimming.. but the water was freezing cold. We deduced that the season is still too early for swimming. On the bus ride back, Shawna did it again. In the middle of the journey, she broke out in cold sweat and nearly fainted. Anthony had to stop the bus with a full bus load of ang mos in the ... read more

Rhodes is a pretty medival town. The tour of the Place of the Grand Masters, exhibits of the living conditions of the past and we also got a glimpse of the interior of the palace although many doors and windows were closed and out of bounds. We also walked through the Avenue of the Knights. It was just like back to the past, in the show, you can imagine the Knights riding down the middle of the avenue and people cheering them on by the side. There was so much big hoo har about the seafood so we decided to spend some money on a mixed seafood platter for one for dinner. It's actually no big deal. The swordfish fillet was good, the grilled octopus was tough and tasted bitter (the Japanese sashimi is better). The ... read more

Oh my god, it was raining a bit yesterday!! No rain all winter and then it arrives with me!! They are preparing to batten down the hatches this weekend as their is a storm due!! Still warm enough to go out in shorts and vest top though!! Well the detox lasted a total of about 2 days, (better than nothing!!). Holiday mode officially ends on Wednesday (that'll be my 3 weeks in) and then I will have to seriously nuckle down!! Have started the Joy Exton dog walking school - take 2 dogs out in the morning and in the early evening and the person was so impressed with me that I got a pay rise after about 3 days and she knows of more people that want my help!! Even though it was cloudy yesterday, ... read more

Landed back in Rodos this morning at 11am off the Catemaran, was up at 6am this morning and saw the sun rise over Turkey!! (and once my friend gets my camera software loaded to their computer I'll share some of the pics I took whilst over in Kos) Weather has now hotted up - over 30' most days! Had a great few days in Kos, it felt like a holiday - we were doing all the touristy stuff!! I learnt more history in 3 days there than I did all my time at school!! Had a couple of afternoons lounging by the pool as well which was great - tan coming on nicely!! Don't think I'm going to do the job I was planning on, hopefully getting lined up to walk someone's dogs a few times ... read more
