We arrived safely and I believe are known across the island already due to "someone's" antics. :) Geri's luggage was ransacked by the baggage handlers and she got her Ipod dock stolen. Curiously, they also stole my Splenda. We have narrowed our manhunt down to a baggage handler who likes music and is on a diet. Luckily Geri has travel insurance that should cover it. We learned from the local youth that the bars do not begin to have anything going on until midnight, and people usually go out until 6am, at which time they get ready for work. The bars are only good on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and maybe Sunday, but NOT Monday. We did manage to find some trouble yesterday despite it being Monday. We walked around old town Rhodes, which is ... read more

I love couches. Soft ones, hard ones, anything with enough back support not to be called a bed. This is the life of a study abroad student though, no couch. I have a bed, I have drawers, I even have a sort of kitchen, but no couch. A year abroad and what do I miss? Yep, couches. When I go to cafes I practically leap into the welcoming embrace of the couch. I try to recall more normal times when life included a living room. Couches, though, belong in a domestic world that I haven't made it to yet. I sit on floors, beds, hard chairs occasionally, but home, home is where the couch is. However, while I might not be able to relax in a comfy couch all the time, I have gotten to sit ... read more

What had been great morning was turning into a beautiful day. The wind was whipping through my long hair and the salt spray was in my face. From my vantage point on the small, portside balcony near the front of the hydrofoil, a stunning seascape stretched out in front of me. The deep blue of the Aegean Sea merged with the cobalt sky at a crisp horizon, broken only by the rugged, brown island of Rhodes, which was directly in front of us in the distance. As the island got closer, the boat’s crew started getting ready for arrival. They got the ropes ready and then they hoisted both the Turkish and Greek flags on the mast in a peaceful gesture that I had first seen when I sailed on the bark Europa. I moved to ... read more

Here are some of the events associated with food on our trip for a week to Rhodes, Myrna, Arlene and Myself. We stayed in the port city not far from the port itself, and just a walk away from the old City which is actually in a large castle area. This was a fantastic stay on this island with so many places to go, beeches to swim in absolutely beautiful, more beautiful old houses, more castles. We rented a car for 3 days and this was a blessing which allowed us to see so much more of the island and with a tour book in hand again we ventured off the main roads to see some of the most interesting sights. Our hotel, Angela's suites was a large kitchenette unit with a bedroom and sitting sofas. ... read more

After visiting the island of Kos for 6 days we traveled to the island of Rhodes. The entry allowed us to see the very large castle of Rhodes. Inside the castle is the large Old Town with old alley ways, streets, hotels, tavernas, restaurants, and shops. We visited the old town several nights for a walk, shop and drinks. Lots and lots of tourists. We celebrated Arlene's birthday with a nice drink infront of the taverna. Again we had fun with the fellows seating you. We wanted a front seat and we got one, right on the road. We sat there for several hours just watching the crowd so well dressed almost looked like they were going to a wedding. Lots of music and good drinks. We had fun with a car rental for 3 days ... read more

Well I'm now in the home straight so to speak! 7 more weeks of glorious sunshine to go and then I'll be back in the UK. Someone who has also been out here and not working said the other day if you're starting to feel bored now, then you are totally relaxed from all the stresses and strains of UK life, and I'm now getting to that stage! Don't get me wrong, I really like being out here, but I'm now happy considering the thought of getting back to the daily grind of Mon - Fri, 9 - 5 work life! In approx 3 weeks time, 1 of my UK pals is coming out to stay with me for a week so that should be a blast and I'm looking forward to that, and then there ... read more

“It is only 41 degrees? The real heat won’t start for a few days.” No wonder we can only be up for 2 hours and then have to have a siesta. We had an amazing travel agent and she has planned things so that each of our experiences has been incredibly different and special - Thanks Marla (I know it’s a bit sucky but it is true). As we mentioned, our nice little 16 passenger plane bumped and bounced its way across the Mediterranean and deposited us in Rhodes. Each time we land in a new place, there is the dilemma of whether we should venturously take the local bus or acquiesce and take a taxi. The extreme heat and uncertainty of how far the town of Rhodes was (as well as not knowing the ... read more
