On-board Queen Victoria You know that feeling you get when you are in your bedroom, laying down after just waking up, where you have this moment of intense thinking and all you can imagine is how small you are compared to everything else in existence? Well I feel that we think too far outside of the box sometimes and maybe instead of comparing how small we are to the whole universe, we should start looking at the people around us that are breathing the same air. Take a closer look at how small you are compared to the person next door to you, or at the fact that you might live in a town with a certain amount of people and may not know who they are and if they have the same beliefs as you. ... read more

Hei, her er bloggen vår.

Well I have made it to Athens Greece! I feel like I have been traveling for days, infact I am not sure what day it is? I flew British Ariways, which was kind of nice, they fed us twice on the plane!!!! I didn't think that airlines fed you on planes anymore? Except for the fact that I slept in the airport overnight...listening to jackhammers and world cup news all night, things went ok. Once I checked into the hotel I cleaned up and ventured out to see what my surroundings are. I am staying at a hotel that is a few blocks from the Acroplis. Absolutley great location!!! I spent most of the evening walking around and thinking about what I will do tomorrow. I am exhausted, I think I have been up for 2 ... read more

Whatever next? After Anne and Joe left, we started comedy of errors - or was it a tragedy. First there was the visit to the doctor when Kate’s eye swelled up. After 15 minutes she had some cream, tablets and a 150 euro bill. After a little disagreement, Kate calmly said “what I am going to do is say thank you, give you 50 euros and leave now”. And she did - she was spectacular! Then after a couple of nice days we planned our passage east across the Aegean, but by then the weather was against us so we had to wait a week in Skopelos for the gales to go away. The high point of that week was being invited for cocktails onboard the beautiful “Margaret Anne”, a 97 foot sailing boat that oozed ... read more

Skiathos - Skopelos - Alonnisos - Peristeri - Skantzoura We had just a few days to potter about before our sailing guests - Anne and Joe - arrived. So, having just fixed the electric motor on the anchor windlass, all was ready for them to join us. We set off from Skiathos to Loutraki on Skopelos in strong winds and with both sails reefed. This was when the stitching along the back edge and the bottom edge of the foresail decided to disintegrate. Nine summers of UV and it had had enough. Displaying our flapping bits of sail fabric we arrived in Loutraki and asked around. Captain George informed us that our best solution was to return to Skiathos and courier the sail to Thessalonika for repair. Two days there, a day to repair, and two ... read more

We are now in lovely breezy sailing conditions - so much more pleasant. We crossed through the opened bridge at Khalidi (tidal currents of up to 7 knots) at midnight amongst all the other boats milling around waiting for the radio call from the coastguard. You can imagine the chaos. Stopped off at quite a few cute little places on route but nothing spectacular. Although we do get very excited about big supermarkets and lightweight bread (rather than the doorstop variety) Andy has started making flat bread on board for times when we have run out - very tasty. The Bobster Rap We decided to write and perform a rap song for Oliver’s 4th birthday. We had great fun writing the words and whilst we were in a remote anchorage, we made a video of us ... read more

Stayed in Mesta for a few days, a medieval village on the island of Chios in Greece, just across from Turkey. The village has been in continual habitation since the 14th century and the castle like center of the town is still very much intact. There are only 300 permanent residents now, but it used to be a flourishing town of 2000 or so, profitting from trade of mastic, a resin from the mastic tree which apparently only grows well in the south of Chios and nowhere else. It was a great commodity with prices at its height similar to its weight in silve, and now still is about 80 euros per kg. The villages therefore are built with defense in mind, away from the shores and fortress like to prevent pirate raids. I stumbled to ... read more

Greeting! This will be a 2 part blog because I don't have the time to sort the pics yet...sooo many pictures, so little time I want to spend in this bar with the techno music blaring! However, the Mythos beer is pretty good! Just had to re-read my last blog to remember what stories I told last entry. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time her on Chios, an Island of just over 800 sq km's! The highest Mnt is 1297 metres and we may have crossed t tonight! We rented scooters yesterday and headed for South Chios. The reason we picked this Island to come to is because of the Mastic trees which grow no where else in the world but in southern Chios. For those of you on you word origin toes, you might recognise ... read more

Hey I have kind of lost track of things here...had to look at the pics to see where I had been! This is going to be a long one because its been a few days and will be a while again until I write. We are having a rest day and I am in a bar that will let me use my laptop for the price of a cup of coffee, Gord is out shopping. The next 2 days we are renting scooters and will be touring Chios. I said earlier that pictures are better than words to discribe what we see here. ow I find that even the pictures are not doing justice to the scenery, especially Western Levos which we visited on Sat. We didn't actuallly plan to go there, "the book" said it ... read more
