We began our series of long trips with the RV, having to drive it back to Rome to return it. We spent about 9 hours on the road. We then caught the train the day after to Bari, which was 6 hours. Then the next day after we caught a ferry from Bari to Igoumenitsa, in Greece, which took about 9 hours also. So we had a series of long, painful and sleepless trips in a row. So I am now in Greece! We are in Lefkada. There are too many bugs inside the house for my liking, but the views here are pretty great. We drove through a lot of beautiful mountains, but that was also the cause of my almost throwing up a couple times in the car on the way from the port ... read more

We are staying in Marandohori, Lefkada. The area is kind of overgrown with weeds and shrubs everywhere, but there are great views. We like Vasiliki, which has really cute shops and cafes, as well as friendly people. Marandohori is a more rural town and everyone knows everyone around the village and surrounding towns. Lefkada city is busy, especially because no-one drives by rules so it's kind-of one big traffic mess. You can find really nice ice-cream or horrible ice-cream, friendly people or not so much, awesome shops or poor ones, its pretty much a mixed bag. But I am pretty happy because I am getting my shoes fixed that I thought were beyond repair for 4 Euros, which is almost 6AUD. We went to a couple of the museums in town which were small but interesting. ... read more

We were up at 9 am today to get ready to leave Mykonos. I think we were all pretty sad to be leaving this island paradise. Breakfast was at 10 am, then we had some time to relax before the shuttle was due to pick us up at 11 am. We drove back to the ferry terminal in Mykonos town, and got ready for the two hour journey to mainland Greece. On the ferry most of us napped and relaxed; it had been a hectic three days in Mykonos and we needed some down time to recover. We arrived at 1:30 pm, where we met back up with our coach and settled in for the drive to Preveza. We stopped for services at 4 pm, and ate at Maccas (how the Aussie's say McDonald's). Usually I'm ... read more

Little did we anticipate the beauty of Greece in the Spring. The wildflowers, lush green vegetation, snow-covered peaks, and cool evenings were a pleasant surprise. The olive trees were in bloom with clusters of tiny white flowers that had a subtle sweet fragrance. Hillsides were covered with yellow, blue, and purple blossoms. Red and yellow poppies were abundant in all the fields. The air had a wonderful aroma. This was not the summer-time Greece that we usually see in the islands. What a beautiful time to be here. Our journey began on the island of Corfu, followed by a road trip through northern Greece and the Pelopponese, and ended back in Corfu. The beach resort of Paleokastritsa was as lovely as ever, but with cooler temperatures and very few travelers. It was our homebase while in ... read more

A summary of my debut cruise. Sorry this is short and sweet but on this occasion I do not have as much time as I would like to have for blogging. We meant to have done the cruise last year but thanks to Iceland's volcanic ash it never happened! See . The refund we got back from the travel company enabled us to book another cruise with another company. We chose the 'Adriatic Explorer' and we began the maiden voyage one Friday evening from Corfu Town. There is so much to see and do on deck and also on the shore. My highlight was going on shore and exploring the places we had stopped at. My family and I enjoyed dining at the Ship's Compass Restaurant on most evenings. I thoroughly enjoyed using the ship's facilities ... read more

From Athens we bus our way to the sea port of Patras, to catch an overnight ferry to Corfu. We have opted for deck class, with a reserved seat. It is much like an airline seat, or if you wish, just take up a space in the lounge bar. The ferry arrives in Corfu at 06:30 and we awake from our slumber to the aroma of body odour and sour socks. (Almost puts us off breakfast). The ferry, a Minoan Lines ship, takes 2,000 passengers and 250 cars. It takes 7 hours to reach Corfu and then continues on to Venice, another 23 hours. Once again we have decided to hire a motor vehicle for the duration of our stay in Corfu, the second largest of the Ionian Island group it has a population of only ... read more

Day 63 This morning, Isabelle, Jenn and I had planned to go on a 8am run, but since it was raining I guess Jenn must have slept in and Isabelle and I just did some on-the-spot work outs in the hallway, undercover between our two rooms. I worked up a bit of a sweat because we got out her jump rope, and took a shower. When I finished mine, the cleaning lady just came in and it was perfect timing for her to clean the bathroom, then my bedroom. Just past 9am we headed down to Neil’s who was making us crepes for breakfast. He made us a savoury crepe each, filled with cheese, bacon and tomatoes, and I added ketchup to taste since we have leftover ketchup from last night’s dinner. Then he made 2 ... read more

Monday, November 08, 2010 Hi Everyone, This morning at 7:00 AM, the ship docked in Corfu, Greece. Nalynn and I went out in the morning on our own to stroll through the town. We probably walked about 5 miles, stopping from time-to-time to buy souvenirs. At 1:30 PM we returned to the ship for the start of our tour to Lakones, Paleostrika and some other small towns. We traveled by bus high in the mountains. The scenery was beautiful, but the weather was cloudy and our pictures are not as good as we would have liked. At Lakones we shopped for souvenirs and also had a small meal with which we tasted the local wine and some Ouzo. We took pictures in front of the Ionian Sea, which was really rough due to a storm coming ... read more

Day 62 This morning, since I didn’t get to sleep until about 3am last night, I slept in till just before 12noon. When I got up, I heard scuttling around starting close to 10am, and figured it was just Lisa getting back from Jerry’s. But when I came into the kitchen, turns out it was Isabelle working on her Greek homework units, catching up to my unit, because her Paris trip kinda sidetracked her. So I washed up, and made us lunch; I grilled some frozen chicken nuggets and boiled frozen brussel sprouts we had in the freezer. It was perfect because we have to get rid of our frozen foods by the end of this month anyway! It only took about 15 minutes and we watched some of ‘The OC’. After lunch, we got changed ... read more

Day 61 This morning I got up automatically at 8:40am, got changed and Isabelle and I went out for a run at 9am. Jenn was too tired to come out with us, but we wanted to get out before it got too hot. It was suppose to be close to 27 degrees today and we wanted to enjoy it all! Our run lasted just under an hour with our stretching and workout, because I wanted to get back for 10am for a skype date I was suppose to have. The date never ended up happening, so instead Isabelle and I made a hash for breakfast and ate it while we booked hostels for Athens and Paris. By 12noon, my date still wasn’t online, so we decided to get out and enjoy the sun. It was already ... read more
