Once again…we were up too early. Today we had a reason though, a 7 hour reason. We drove from Berlin to Wuppertal and even at 160-170km/hour it still took 7 hours and cost dad 2 speeding fines (although he doesn’t know yet). Mum and Sam were no longer direction navigators, they were now speed camera looker outerers… and not doing a very good job. Wuppertal is a little town near Dusseldorf where Sam and her boyfriend John have been living for the past 2 months. We stayed at their place for lunch and had a little look around the town. Another hour down the road and we were in Dusseldorf. We stayed her e for 1 night after eating a huge Mexican dinner. Our day was spent walking along the Rhine, eating fresh food from the ... read more

Well, bear with me, since these German keyboards are very annoying, because they put the damn 'Y' where our 'Z' usually is, it's amazing how many 'Y' we use. After my short 5 day visit in Linköping, Sweden, I headed down south. I went to Copenhagen, Denmark for two days. My first impression wasn't good. I thought the city was quite dirty, of what I could see physically anyways. The centre of town was very dirty I thought, you saw a lot of homeless people, drinking beer and the whole nine yards, but I thought meh, it will get better. Unfortunately it didn't get any better, as far as the city went. As I walked nearer and nearer to my hostel (called Sleep in Heaven - but it truly wasn't, it was more like purgatory, south ... read more

Hurra!! Wieeeehhh? Doch dazu mehr morgen!... read more

Only stayed 1 night in Dusseldorf as an overnight stop to Moscow. Had the day to look around the main town.Quite a lovely city, old parts with cobbled streets and new areas with shops and bars. We walked along the River Rhine, amazed at its speed and volume. Obviously a major transport route for industry. Our hotel was well located with easy walking distance to and from town through a leafy park. ... read more

MORGEN! (good morning) So, its our first official day in germany and it is the middle of the night for you. I definitely woke up in the middle of the night wide awake so I played sudoku for about an hour and then fell back asleep. I have the coolest room. Very modern. Our host mom has internet but her computer is sick right now so we are internet-less for the time being. It is a little colder here than I originally thought yesterday. The morning train ride proved that. haha. We had meats and cheeses for breakfast that were really good. I actually had sausage for breakfast (cept it was salami). lol. As for first impressions of Germany...VERY clean. I am not a big fan of table water (sparkling water) but I will probably have ... read more

“Düsseldorf? Why go there?” asked certain people when I told them of our plans for New Year’s Eve. “Surely there are better places to go than Düsseldorf?” And that was the problem. Düsseldorf seemed to have a bit of an image problem. I blame Auf Wiedersehen Pet, the hit 1980’s TV program. On screen Düsseldorf was portrayed as a bleak industrial city, certainly not a top destination for a European city-break. So I decided to find out more. On the city’s official website, Düsseldorf was described as having ‘…one of the world’s most elegant shopping metropolises’, and even better, I read, it’s Old Town had ‘more than 260 restaurants an inns…known as the longest bar in the world.’ I was sold immediately and it didn’t take long to convince Jodie either. And as an added bonus, ... read more

(June 9-June 10, 2006) June 9 We left London late afternoon on Ryan Air. They may be cheap, but very uncomfortable. The airline doesn't fly directly into Düsseldorf, rather into Weeze. The airport is tiny, and as we go through customs and get our airbags, the airport is empty, only a handful of gates, and everything is closed. The person at the information desk, very helpful, was about to leave, and we were lucky enough to get some information from her. An ATM adventure, and an hour bus drive to Düsseldorf later, we were ready to go. We got off the bus, and climbed on the first taxi that stopped. We forgot to look at the map in the bus, and we had no idea where we were compared to the hotel--ends up that there are ... read more

Well friends...since we wrote last we have had quite the adventures through Turkey. We were in Channakale when we last wrote a blog. We did go to the ruins of Troy dating back to 3500 BC in the morning on a tour and in the afternoon we went on another guided tour but this time it was of Galipoli. This was one of the highlights of my, Josh's, turkey experience. Its baasically a battlefield where the turks defended thier peninsula from the kiwis and aussies. We had a tour guide who told us all about what happened and we were able to see all the places where this horrible tradgedy occured. Just for some perspective...500,000 soldiers died either on the field or as a result of the batttle ie, infected wounds, famine, hypothermia etc. And it ... read more
