Vaikka annoin tietoni ja maksoin päivälipun, ... read more

One of the things to do for Marion on this trip was to go to a German city on the Rhine. So off we went, and we invited Peter also, since he had not been this far into Germany yet. It’s only about a 75-minute drive, but the highway is quite busy with international trucking. We noticed almost right away when we entered Germany, that there looked to be more space and that land use was not as tightly organized. The highways too were not as numerous and had fewer interchanges. And believe it or not, the speed limits were a bit slower than the 130km/hr on most highways in the Netherlands. We found a central parking space close to the Altstadt or old city. We walked though the area with numerous restaurants, probably one or ... read more

Our last night was plagued by thunder and lightening so the planned pleasant stroll in the Saturday Market nearby and breakfast at Winterfelt was not looking promising. And it wasn’t. The cafe wasn’t open and the rain barely allowed time for a quick look, buy some supplies at a bakery for the train ride to Dusseldorf and have breakfast at a popular cafe that took your order at the counter and then the waitress came empty handed to the table to tell us it was ready to pick up. It was obviously popular because the coffee and food were good; there was no service. The public transport in Berlin is very organised and efficient. We had been on and off trains and buses many times and never waited more than 4 minutes for a connection. A ... read more

In my head two days would be more than enough time to get ready, and it would have been, if I had remembered the things I needed. Wednesday morning started off fairly chilled, till I decided to plug my Tom Tom in to the laptop. The updates downloaded in seconds but the transfer was going to take over an hour, so I left it while I carried on packing. By 10am it was still claiming it need an hour, so begrudgingly I decided to do a few last minute jobs, which I was gong to do on route to the ferry, but would now have to go back home instead. The first was to pick up the radio remote which I thought was in my Land Rover. It wasn't, so that was a load of time ... read more

Alright so we're gonna play a little catch up here. So been about a week since I put some words down here. I was particularly inspired today though and thought I would come back and talk about whats happened since then. So lets start with Karneval. During this festival I ended up meeting this girl from America by total accident because I was lost looking for a certain place a friend of mine I had just met was. This friend I met on a carpool from Berlin. Everything has been spontaneous since I've been here. No shit... Like stuff just happens.. I meet people... and it has me questioning daily. Is it fate or coicindence that guides our lives? Either or I'm cool with it all. I'm in the right spots at the right time. So ... read more

I am learning new words today. Da means yes, Ausfarht: Exit, Einsfarht, Entry. I kept seeing what I thought were the exits named for a town called Ausfarht and I nievely thought it meant the name of the town. Shhhhhesh. Ausfarht (fart) Lol They use a lotta dirty words here I think. Last time I was here they had a bus company name called "fucker" now they changed it to fuecker because they were getting a bad rap. Well, Duh. Lol.... First stop, Chinese buffet. ????? I know, I know, I caved in. Sigh......Not as many choices as I hoped but it was fun watching Asians speak German. Ha Ha Ha... Off we went to Dusseldorf to play in the stores. Bernd and I went to the IT stores and the girls hit the clothing shops. ... read more

Hello! I hope everyone is having a happy start to their New Year! I must admit, New Year’s is not my favorite holiday. I think everyone has a holiday that just does not treat them well year after year after year and New Year’s always seems to be mine. However, I broke the curse this year! Hopefully it sticks. Getting off the train I wasn’t exactly sure where to meet Jana. I got a German SIM card, but it keeps saying I’m roaming and my phone just is not cooperating here in Germany so I didn’t really have any way to reach her, so I just waited and watched all of the people going by looking for her bright blonde hair. It was SO exciting to see her! I honestly can’t believe it has been ... read more

Last time I wrote I was getting ready for 10 days of cycling through the borderlands of Germany and Poland. Er, that seems like a lifetime ago. Well, since then I've been there and done that, and from what I can remember, it was enjoyable (when the weather was agreeable). Really. I have a vague recollection of us being somewhere around Berlin. I know I was in Poland because I was paying with zlotys for a couple of days. I know the places I overnighted because I made a point of writing it down. The rest though is all a bit of a blur. I've been racking my brain to understand why and come up with a theory. Here goes... For the last 18 years I've done these types of bike trips on my own. Suffice ... read more
