Hello, Hola and Moin Moin to all of you! Well this is my Blog for all those who may or may not be interested in my journey which I gloriously entitle: "Lucas rips up the world tour 2009". I will write in english because of multiple nationalities reading this. To all the non-native english speakers: do not be scared by this initial Blog-length or -style. I simply try to make up for lack of excitimg things to say and pictures to fill the space. If you don't want to receive any more of this blog business just tell me and I'll scratch you from the list. Also write me anything else you would like me to take note of such as not adding nude pictures of myself or else. So here I am, a bare 4 ... read more

The week leading up to our first travel weekend was mostly spent on recovery. I was still a little sick from Amsterdam, and I hadn't yet realized how short four days can be between trips. Classes were entering their second week, the syllabi were handed out, and real work was setting in. The idea of a new country every weekend still seemed like distant dream, and it wasn't until Thursday night, after a long game of Monopoly, that the next day's trip really sank in. A week earlier one of my roommates, Ben, had suggested a bike trip to Dusseldorf, a place I only knew as international vampire headquarters in the animated Cuban feature "Vampiros en Habana," but I liked the idea of a bike trip and told him I was interested. Meanwhile other kids started ... read more

So Germany, good stuff. We left Bremen and went to the magical city of Cologne. We had a picture perfect hostel to match the grandeur of the dom. For those that havent had the pleasure of going to the Dom, it is a Cathedral of immense preportions, and is the resting place of the three wise men. Although if they were so wise why dont they have a bigger shrine? Well maybe 2 out of the 3 deserve a better shrine but the guy that gave mir doesnt deserve anything. After touring the medieval and Roman remains that dot the city, we spent a relaxing day crusing the Rhine River. We took the gruellingly slow yet picturesque train from Cologne to Koblenz where we proceded to board our ship. The trip was amazing as the countryside ... read more

June 11, 2008 Dusseldorf, Germany Nice city !!! We travelled a few hours today through some more great countryside and arrived in Dusseldorf in time to spend the afternoon and evening exploring this great city. Dusseldorf is a lot different from Berlin. Very clean, a lot of the “old character” that we enjoy and a very beautiful location on the Rhine River. Dusseldorf is a favorite place to visit due to it's location on the Rhine and many river cruises come here as well as day trips from coastal ports. In hindsight we wish we had another day here but we are committed to go to Brussels tomorrow. There is some interesting castle hunting here as well. Yup !!! More castles. We'll be Back !! The terrain changes significantly as you travel through Germany and we ... read more

Hello Everyone! We are here in Dusseldorf, Germany!! We are safe and had a fabulous trip and first day in Europe. Our flight was amazing. We highly recommend LTU for your next international flight! They fed us every half hour, gave us blankets (which are going to turn into our beach towels in a week or so), pillows, socks, even a tooth brush! We have had some encounters with a few entertaining characters already and cannot wait to see who else we will meet in the next three weeks! We are staying in a very nice hostel tonight. We leave tomorrow morning for Amsterdam. We have already learned many important lessons and had plenty of laughs. We will share all the stories with you soon but now it's time for bed because we are trying to ... read more

It was at the last minute and right before I head home to the US so I was not all that excited about traveling, but my boss and I went to Dusseldorf for business convention. It was supposedly the largest packaging show in the world; I am not sure it was that big, but it was big! The bad part was a lot did not relate to the food/meat industry. Although we did not spend much time in places like the medical devices/packaging area, we still had to go through it to get to other halls. On Thursday we landed in good time and spent the afternoon wondering around seeing the town. To be honest, it was a pretty town and fairly modern; but there was not a lot to see and do. We headed to ... read more

Today started off very early- a 3:45 AM car hire appointment to Glasgow. And guess who over slept :) Now, two airports, numerous countries, one time zone, and about 12 hours later, I'm almost in Italy! We stopped in Dusseldorf, Germany for a connecting flight, so there are mostly Germans on board it seems and a few Italians. One of our flight attendants, Fernando, is pretty funny. He walked down the aisle and said to a group of 50-60 yr old American tourists, "Now on this side as we come into Rome, you can see the Colosseum there, and the Vatican over here, and (turning to the other side of the plane) you people on this side want to sit on the other side when you fly back home. There isn't anything on this side." Then ... read more

So I’ve finally gotten around to telling you all about the rest of my ‘round-trip’ of Germany! Sorry about how long it’s been...I lost a bit of motivation somewhere along the way! I left off in Berlin, having stayed longer than intended but still enjoying every second of it (except maybe when I was sick - not quite so enjoyable...)! Due to no reply to my request to surf a couch in Hamburg, from Berlin I took a LONG train ride to Düsseldorf. I think it was about 4 or 5 hours. And unfortunately I’d finished Harry Potter the night before! I did have another book to read, though, so I wasn’t COMPLETELY bored...plus I got some sleep in, as it was an early train too. I was to stay in a youth hostel for this ... read more
