Ah, what a day! We were all fairly tired this morning, probably due to the time zone differences. We were all up by 4:00 am our time - which is 7:00 pm back home. There’s a 9 hour difference all in all, which can be very confusing at times! We all slept for quite a while, about 12 or so hours, but even still we were pretty exhausted. Eventually we all rolled out of the somewhat-comfortable beds and got ready for breakfast. The breakfast here is free of charge, which is great - they have all sorts of things that we’ve never seen before, but I myself was not adventurous enough to try much of it. Dad was, however, more than willing to devour whatever they had out on the counter! There were weird things such ... read more

Just like the photos, the place is really nice. Under attack from tourists and American students during the day, but worth it. Did a self guided walking tour off the tourist office map, took a million pics, and had NO RAIN!!! A nice change. Stayed in a B&B that was pretty nice too and not very expensive either.... read more

Wow. Okay, I'm going to put my supertramp theme on hold for a while, at least until I, well, how do I put this, actually do something related to my original plans. Call it a combination of weather and work, but haven't made it work so far. I decided early into last week that this weekend would be the long awaited, faithfully planned beginning. Plotted destinations for a weekend camping trip with two friends, eventually settling on a Luxembourg/Belgium trip. However, rumors of bad weather approaching for the weekend forced a change in plans. Scared off by rain, I'm a wimp, okay. Settled on a replacement plan of a last minute trip to Rothenburg ob der tauber in Bavaria, a town that I've been wanting to visit for two years, but had somehow never made the ... read more

Okay, so it's been a while since I wrote... we now continue with our regularly scheduled program. At least one more day's worth. We continue our journey in Oberwesel... today we took a boat cruise on the Koln-Dusseldofer line up the Rhine River to take a look at more castles. Unfortunately, the day was pretty dreary and the castles were shrouded in haze. The trip was still nice... the boat was very elegant on the inside, and had a restaurant and bar on board. We didn't have enough time to travel very far, so we just went up a few stops and then came back. Then we headed to Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, Germany's best preserved walled city... it dates back to the 9th century. The city flourished until the 1600s when the Thirty ... read more

Spring is here. The trees are regaining leaves, flowers are blooming, its raining...a lot...oh wait thats just Germany. :-) As spring approaches and the idea of Summer is infecting this town, I can not help but realize that my days here are numbered. So much to see, so little time!! I have lots planned over the next 3 months, trying to squeeze in everything I can, see friends again, and try to just take in the beauty of a German Summer. (Beergardens, beach bars, Swimming Pools) I am in amazement at how fast this year has really gone. It is already the middle of my 8th month here...unimaginable. Don't get me wrong, I miss everyone very much and am excited about returning home, but its nothing like a light at the end of the tunnel to ... read more

After catching a glimpse of a typical Christmas market in Frankfurt on the first day (refer to my previous post), we started our 2nd day by going to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a beautiful medieval town along the Romantic Road. Actually this was my 2nd visit to Rothenburg. I went to Rothenburg in May 2007, and I fell in love with the town. Rothenburg pleased me so much that I decided to come again in the winter, and this time I brought my friends along. Like my previous visit, the weather was sunny and bright. However, unlike my previous visit, this time the weather was cold. (It was 30ºC last time, but below 0ºC this time.) Once we walked through the gate into the town, my friends were immediately impressed by the beauty of the place. ... read more

Day 4 into our trip, we visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber - it is one of the (if not THE most) preserved medieval towns in all of Europe. It was on a very popular trade route in the 13 and 14th centuries, and it became rich. The town was fortified by a wall and guard towers, which are still present (mostly). After the Black Plague and the Thirty Years War, many of the residents died and the village was ransacked. The town was basically vacant or asleep for 250 years, and that is why it is so well-preserved. In the 1800’s it was rediscovered during the Age of Romance, and tourists began flocking here to see the medieval town. Then, in WWII, the city was bombed since German troops planned to use the town as ... read more

July 9, 2007 The Autobahn Scott is better. He was better the next day. We left the Rhine Valley on Saturday for Rothenburg, Germany, another darling medieval walled town. The 2 hour, turned 4 hour ride was pleasant as the sun was still out and Germany is so beautiful. I had no idea… We got an early start and we were having a great day. Plus it was freeway all the way so no problem…Except the Mercedes, Audi’s and BMW sailing by us on the autobahn at well over a 100 mph. You hear about it but unless you see it…you have no idea. They come right up behind you, get inched away, and then sail by breaking the sound barrier with their speed. It was Saturday and little traffic and OMG!!!!!! The cheap cars ... read more

Hi every1! We're within the walls of a city tha tis a midevil castle, the buidling we are staying in (obviously) rebuilt was first constructed in 1624. The walls of the castle village was constructed in 1367 and still stands(which is cool:) has been replastered though but cool. The walls are 12 feet thick. So enough about the walls, we went out to a beer garden last night with live band performance and the traditional visuals of waiters carrying numerous steins of beer full slightly spilling over going through crowds of local Bavarians drinking and eating brautwursts and the more brave were dancing on the bright orange (very sturdy fyi) tables(i almost got up & danced) Mom & i Shared about a stein & a half after eating a half of a chicken each very yummy! ... read more
