We spent two days in Lyon which was mainly spent walking around the shopping areas and fresh food markets. Unfortunately one of our two days was a Sunday, on Sundays everything in France closes, so we really only spent one day there. Yesterday we got the train to Nice which ws a journey in itself! The 4 hr trip took 6 and a half hours because the train had a fault and as we are in the south of france now it is quite hot. We finally arrived at the hostel around 7o'clock and whlst unpacking realised we had left Amandas new purse on the train. Wewent back to the station but they couldn't help us. Nice is very beautiful and has lovely beaches and lots of shops, hopefully i'll find some Camper shoes for a ... read more

... read more

A few days into our stay in Arles Mom and I decided to take a day trip out into the country and do what all tourists do: taste a lot of wine! So we got in our rented car and sighed with relief thinking that we would have a mosquito free day with air conditioning. AC we did have but those little mutant insects are stealth when it comes to finding well hydrated tourists: They crawled in through air ducts or somewhere and continued to buzz around the car. We found if we drove fast enought they settle at the back window so we sped through Avignon and up through Aix en Provence to look for a winery. I must bluntly state, once again, that this place was GORGEOUS! Lavender season was over but the charm ... read more

We weren't actually in Avignon, we were in a town 20 minutes south called Arles. My mother's other love interest, Rick Steves (this became a running joke), recommended Arles as a place to visit so that is where we went. She began referring to R.S. as "him" and would put out statements such as "he doesn't recommend going there." Finally I asked her (jokingly) if there was something she needed to tell my dad. So that is why Rick Steves is now my mom's pretend boyfriend. Arles was actually a really interesting town. I had no idea where I was going, I just got on the train with my mom but she said that there were Roman ruins in the town. We got there and walked around and came across a cafe that looked really familiar....turns ... read more

18 days. What went through my mind when i booked my ticket for marseille? u tell me. i've never been so bored, people are still the same, lazy, rude, always complaining, loud mouth, please someone put me onto the next airplane. so what happened since the 11th? i've seen tons of doctors, i've been brave and had my wisdom tooth taken out, been eating a lot and sick a lot; my body must have got used to bad food in England but it was so worth it, don't forget that i'm gonna starve for 2 months in Asia. I've seen all my friends, my parents, been told by my ex-boyfriend, in short, to piss off, life couldn't be better. the good thing was maybe i got the chance to see 50cent perform yesterday night and it ... read more

It is the morning of the 1st September and we set off for Cannes. Another scorching day and we only arrive at Mougins School in Mougins, Cannes at around 3:00p.m. This is going to be Devron's school for the next two years and both he and Tony were suitably impressed at my choice (I had already visited the school earlier this year in May). So we then had a meeting with three senior teachers and we together worked out his subjects for the Alevels. Then we drove out of Mougins towards Grasse, which is a very old medieval town and the administrative centre of the Cote d'Azur. There are several huge perfumeries in Grasse, among them Molinard and Fragonard. Some time later on we plan to visit each one, but for now we had to find ... read more
