So at the moment I'm sitting on a french train to cebere, just had some crazy changeover from the shitty spanish one. French trains are coushty. Basically we were told to get off even though it was meant to go direct and nobody had the slightest clue what was going on - fun. Had a good last day in Barcelona, went and showed Emz the house of bones and La Pedera (More gaudi Stuff) and even went inside the hotel, only cose me €4. It was really good inside, just a general history of Gaudi and his work. We then went off to the Palace and got thoroughly pissed off at some stupid f*****ng skate show that was on right out front of the palace. We had to walk all the way round the outside....bastards. ... read more

This morning we got up pretty early, around 6:30 am! (Way too early for vacation). We ate breakfast in the main dining room. Then we waited for the boat to dock, which occured late. Once it finally happened we got off the boat and met our tour guide/driver for the day. We had arranged a private tour through Provence. First we headed to Avignon to see the Palace of the Popes. It was built in the 1300s when the Pope decided to move here to get rid of the rebels and heretics. It was a pretty cool old building. We grabbed a quite bite to eat in a little cafe and then headed to a few stores. Mom bought a lovely table cloth. They didn't have the one I wanted in the size I needed, ... read more

I only speak five french words and it would have really helped us if I just tried to learn some more before we went to Marseille. Very few people can speak in english though they tried really hard to help us with directions. The first person I asked for directions was the bus driver who drove us from the airport. I asked how to go to Prado and he didn't understand me first since I pronounced it "pra-doe" instead of something like "prah-doh". He told me the directions and I kept on saying "Yeah, Okay, Merzeee.." while he was talking but I actually didn't understand a word since he was speaking in French. He did pointed out his hand while talking so at least I knew where to start. Hehe. At the train station, we did ... read more

Wow! I just got back from Marseille last night on the late TGV, and what a trip we had! Marseille was definitely a good way to end our eight day trip to Provence- the whole trip was kind of a build-up to the culmination, which was the vibrant port city on the Mediterranean. By far the largest city in the region, Marseille is the 2nd largest city in France (with a population of 800,000) and is incredibly old- it was founded as Massilia by the Greeks in 600 B.C. Legend has it that a band of Greek sailors anchored in the bay and were welcomed by the local tribe, and on the night of a feast the princess of the tribe had to choose a husband from among the participants…her eye fell on the handsome young ... read more

No way could I ever remember the name of the restaurant (much less pronounce it!) but never will I forget the experience. I walked all over Marseilles, from Notre Dame de la Garde to Palais Longchamps. Coming down from the cathedral, I passed a small restaurant/fish market, that had its seafood tantalizingly displayed outside in total artful form. I was booking it soo fast down the hill that the sight registered in my brain after I had passed it. I put my stride in reverse for a second look. The prawns were three feet long and a foot wide... well, maybe not that large. They seemed to me to be though. Let's just say they were HUGE. They were soooo artfully displayed... It was too much... the magnetic pull was worse than someone grabbing me by ... read more

Visiting Marseilles was a dream come true for me. Just one of those places that held 'mystique', another reason because of my love for the book 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' I had visions of visiting the Chateau D'If. I had some trepidation though, going there since I had heard it was not 'tourist friendly'. I made the plunge though on my way from Barcelona to Aix en Province. Getting off the train in Marseilles, I took out of my back pack my essentials for spending one night somewhere, placed them in my little day pack, then stashed the larger backpack in a locker. I left the train station and found someone that could tell me (in broken English, at least) where Vieux Port (old port) was. He pointed... down the magnificent steps to the, the ... read more

Its only been 2 weeks since we came home from France so I think I am getting better at updating this, though I do notice that its been over a month since I last wrote one...Well as it has transpired it is now a month since we got home and still this blog is waiting to be published!! Tickets were booked for an overnight trip to Paris on the national express bus leaving at 10pm. We arrived at the station hungry and had BK for dinner before boarding our bus. Thinking we were going to take the Eurotunnel we arrived at Dover with anticipation, but sadly we were chucked on a Ferry at 2am to make the crossing. We slept most of the way so didnt really see the white cliffs of Dover except for the ... read more

Hello, So i realize it has been a while... but Kelly and i have been unbelievably busy the past few weeks. After setting out on our own we have visited Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; Budapest, Hungary; and are hanging out in Italy now. Needless to say we have been having a lot of fun (maybe too much) and now are completely exhausted. So the run down, (i promise i will try to keep it brief, but really there is a lot to tell you about)... Vienna was fantastic! We stayed with a med school student, named Lukas, in the center of down town Vienna. In our 5 days there we made an impressive tour of the university night life scene, saw countless palaces and museums, tasted a plethora of local delicacies (the Pakistani food that ... read more
