The final day of our trip was our visit for the kids to Disneyland Paris. The weather was the worst day of our trip which was OK considering we're coming home tomorrow and we actually had more opportunities to be inside than some of our other days. We're glad we had such nice weather for most our D-Day touring. Disneyland Paris is much like the Magic Kingdom or Disneyland CA, though slightly smaller. We have a couple of pictures of the castle and Diana with Minnie and Mickey, but we're having trouble loading them now, so we'll try once we're home. One advantage of this resort being newer than its US counterparts is that the rides are all newer and better. Space Mountain here (called Space Mountain Mission 2) is much more exciting than those in ... read more

I can think of hundreds of reasons to explain why I love Paris so much. Paris is my dream city, and it is really like what it is in my dream. There are classical buildings, grand sculptures and the strong sense of arts. I spent only 2 days in Paris, but I felt so satisfied. I took a cruise down La Seine, and the extravagant scenery along the riverside would stay in my mind forever. I took the elevator up to the second floor of Eiffel Tower and saw the unbelievable view of Paris. But if I went there again, I would choose to go up by climbing the stairs at night. I paid a visit to Louvre, but I did not pay much attention to masterpieces there, although I saw them all. For a traveller who ... read more

French Wine, New York Crowds and Minnesota Weather The steel wheels are screaming against the cold rails propelling the Eurostar at over 100mph as it streaks across northern France on its 2.5 hour journey to London. Inside the train we hear very little of the noise. The ride is smooth. The scenery is much like that of our Midwest. Soon, we’ll be slipping under the Atlantic in the tunnel that takes us to the United Kingdom. We are not overly sad to be leaving Paris. It’s a beautiful city but very similar to New York. It’s crowded and the people, like in any large, crowded city, can be brusque. In short, it lacked the warmth and romance of Italy. We only had 1.5 days in Paris and most of our time was spent along the Champs-Elysees, ... read more

We had a restful morning then headed back on the train to Paris, but not before a picture of Deb and Diana outside our unit. We started the day with a visit to the Military Museum and Napoleon’s tomb. The museum was very large and we focused our attention on a few time periods, especially a new World War II exhibit they have. Will can be seen posing in front of a room of armor. I found it interesting how the museum tries to explain the Vichy French and why they cooperated with the Nazis rather than fighting like the Free French. After completing the visit by seeing Napoleon’s tomb and having some lunch, we were off to Notre Dame. There was quite a crowd there and we had to wait a few minutes to get ... read more

Matt: Bonjour! One of the more annoying things about living and working in London is working in London - it really gets in the way of the living! With just six weeks of annual leave, seven public holidays and ten “sick days”, any time away work cannot be wasted! And so it was that just ten hours after finishing work, Ed and I lumbered into a cab at 5.30 in the morning bound for Heathrow and Paris… The night before, we had taken my dad (who had been staying with us for a few days on the way back to Oz from Ireland) out for Indian and a couple of drinks which meant that we hadn’t had a chance to pack. This meant that our 5.30am departure was preceded by a 4.30am alarm, three presses of ... read more

We got up early to leave our cottage and head to Paris and again to find some snow falling. It made for a treacherous first 45 minutes of our drive, but then we left the snow. We were happy to reach the Marriott vacation club near Disneyland Paris and able to get into our room. The modern unit was a marked change from the quaint cottage! Our unit is a two bedroom townhome on two floors with two and a half baths. They look new and although more "American" have French furnishings. We regrouped and headed to the Disney property and the train station to go into Paris. After parking at the Disney village, we couldn’t pass up lunch at Planet Hollywood before taking the train. After lunch and a 40 min train ride, we exited ... read more

I have all my pictures on my computer now...that's three nights of my life I'll never get back. So far, I've only got pictures on for the time I spent in Paris, but I'm working on the rest. Mx Paris was nice for Christmas. Even my McDonald's McChicken meal was nice. Suffice it to say that not a whole lot was actually open. :-) I tried a whole lot to find a brasserie or patisserie or boulangerie or boucherie or anything ending in -erie for food, but eventually I had to give up and just have McDonald's for lunch. The stomach dictated that decision. I took the Eurostar from London to Paris and it took just under three hours to get there. Then I followed the directions that the hostel provided...and got lost. Not really lost, ... read more

How cool is Paris? My hostel was not fabulous...but I was prepared for that. Imagine a bed that in which was cut a large person shaped hole and then that´s where you slept--in the hole! And to top it off, I took the absolute coldest shower ever! There was no hot water whatsoever!!!!! Needless to say, the shower did not last long and I am feeling really disgusting today after having properly showered for the last time on Saturday morning. (Aren´t you glad you aren´t travelling with me?) Paris is a very nice city and it is very easy to get around. I travelled all over the place both using the metro and walking (ankle is feeling much better, although not 100% yet). I will post pictures in a blog when I get back and I ... read more
