Luckily we were here before the football! Unfortunately we would have to recomend Zagreb even though their football team sucks! It was the longest train throughout Europe, spanning a whole six hours! It also went pretty close to our next stop of Lubalubajuba (Ljubljana) half way there. Adam stood and marvelled at cake shop windows for about 75% of the time we were there!! And got a little over excited about ice cream! This is true but to be fair it was actually about 80% of the time and im not afraid to admit that! We went to this amazing ice-cream and cake shop where the idea was to stand in the shop and eat cake!!! We took our time but we were there only about 20mins but about 3 guys woofed down two cakes each ... read more

From Budapest we flew directly to Split Croatia. We spent one amazingly hot night in Split before heading out to the islands. We stayed in a room with a Croatian family not far from the water and after quickly realizing how much it cost to stay in Croatia we managed to pick some cheap camping gear for the rest of our trip. We had a swim at a nice beach a kilometer or so from Split in the afternoon and enormous pizza slices for tea. We explored Diocletian’s Palace in the evening and wandered the small atmospheric streets. On the island of Hvar (Havar) we avoided the tourist overrun town of Hvar and camped a few nights in the village of Stari Grad. It was a beautiful old little port town with rocky beaches and a ... read more

Croatia - 1 Week As I cycled into Croatia I was surprised to feel deja vu, the mountains and the vegetation reminded me of cycled into Austria but the weather the first night was shite meaning I woke up in a puddle. The coast from Dubrovnik until Sibenik was beautiful particularly around the islands of Hvar and Korcula, I cycled north along the Adriatic coast through Dubrovnik, and then took a ferry to arrive on the island of Korcula, continued from east to west along Korcula, through vineyards and along the rocky coast, and left on a ferry to Split. Dubrovnik was another really cool medieval town, as was Split but the latter was much bigger and more developed. The nicest town I came across on the Adriatic coast was Trogir, north of Split, a really ... read more

...this travelblogs visual journey sort of started with Croatian visit. I was saying farewell to my parents, before riding into a sunrise...I visited my family again to re-enrol into "normal" (ha! ?) flow. Most people I have had a chance to re-hug have noted that a year has gone sooooo quickly. Never mind, I can feel another one coming... Well, if you travel over a ball you are bound to get beck where you started, I suppose. Especially if the road has deep channels from previous uses. Unless there is a whole in the ball, or you fall off, or there is some sort of glue...or you find a way of changing dimensions. After few weeks back in London and finally starting to feel that there are too many threads dangling around, as well as danger ... read more

So, after a week in the Pest, we decide its time to dip into the birthplace of neckties and....uuummmmm.... well, its a cool country. The itinerary was basically to hit up Zagreb (the capital) to check the party scene, then head to Split to check the largest still standing Roman fortress in Eastern Europe, then head to the entire purpose of our excursion to Croatia - the UNESCO World Heritage site of Dubrovnik with its famous walled old town. ZAGREB Well, there is nothing here, looks like a dead town, so we hit up Tolkiens House pub (primarily to make Kennah jealous, as he is a huge Lord of the Rings nerd (and Orlando Bloom fanclub president)) and then decided to just book it to Dubrovnik, about 6 hours south. DUBROVNIK The old town is really ... read more

Well guys and gals, thanks for tuning in and reading our blog.....thanks for all the messages and the contact from back home...This is our final entry from our Eastern European trip and relates to our last couple of weeks in Croatia and Slovenia. We are now at home but thought we would finish the blog as part of our memories and to complete the story. Its actually pretty depressing writing it all as we sort of want to still be away....its wierd being home and not having to worry about our next place to stay, or buying in for the day or looking for dogs/randoms to avoid!! Croatia started as Montenegro finished, cracking scenery and coastal roads with mountains down to the sea, and all the towns had a "stari grad" (old town), walled, with narrow ... read more

So we spent the last couple days in Dubrovnik, the city is gorgeous but its sad that instead of the buisy hubub of markets and shipbuilding and things that the city used to take part in it is now only used as a tourist trap of sorts. Filled with stores selling crappy jewelery and overpriced walking tours, hotels, and bottels of wine. It was nice to see the old city with its walls and buildings and history, but I had the feeling of being herded like cattle thru the city. Im also a little bitter because we bought a box of lindor chocolates, for about as much as we would normally spend on a meal, and they had gone hard and white, though were before the best before date (by three days); we tried to take ... read more

When looking at most holiday brochures I cynically assume that they’ve had the photoshop face lift. The sea has been made that bit more sparking blue, the ugly building site has been conveniently erased and the gravel beach has suddenly become Barbados. However, I’m pleased to say that Dubrovnik certainly doesn’t need such cosmetic enhancements. We arrived to a perfect sunny day that was more June than October. The coast line reveled many pretty villages of white washed buildings with terracotta tiled roofs. Dubrovnik itself has a fairy tale quality with fortress walls that encircle the town and harbor like protective arms. Colorful fishing boats bob in the bay and cobbled streets twist and turn with lazy cats asleep in every door way. But such a picture perfect paradise hasn’t gone unnoticed by the tourist hoards. ... read more

Wow, it was almost 2 weeks ago now that we made it to Dubrovnik, Croatia that I can't really remember too much of it. It was a long drive, about 8 hours with a short stop in Zagreb (the capital). In Zagreb we ate dinner and checked out a pub named Tolkien's House, which of course as you may guess was decorated in mainly a Lord of the Rings theme and shots named after places and characters from the story too. But from there we then continued on our way south to Dubrovnik through windy coastal roads with beautiful views in the night until we made it to our destination at nearly 2AM. we spent the next day here, walking mostly and taking numerous photos of the glorious castle walls that surround the town and are ... read more
