Hello from Trogir (Just north of Split) Tuesday the 15th of April. Well I am sitting in my nice warm saloon with the heater running, nice hot cup of coffee, Debsy is tucked up in bed with her coffee and her book and the girls are sound asleep and it is ten past nine in the morning. Any idea what the weather might be like outside?? Listen intently and you can hear the wind howling through the rigging and the sound of rain falling onto the deck, if you try hard you might also feel the boat rocking beneath you. All in all, not one of the nicest mornings we have had. Being very fair though, we are looking out over the very famous town of Trogir, a UNESCO World Heritage Listed site, but more of ... read more

Hello from our new home, our yacht ‘Paulina’ Well it is now Friday the 11th of April and I haven’t put up a blog since the 4th. Simple reason is we have been out in the boonies and the internet is still thought of in the same vein as putting man on mars!!. So, since we last posted….. that was the morning after we left Dubrovnik and caught our bus from Dubrovnik to Sukosan, about 400 klms to the north where we picked up our boat. The bus was a reasonably old style coach, quite comfortable and another travel experience for the girls. As we suspected, the road wound it’s way along the coast for almost all of the way and the coastal scenery, as you would expect, is pretty spectacular. There were a lot of ... read more

Croatia's reputation as a summer playground may be growing, but it is also a fine destination out of season, when you can visit its wonderful attractions in splendid isolation. Wandering around the sleepy hilltop towns of Istria or the beautiful Diocletian's Palace in Split can be much more rewarding away from the push and shove of the tourist crowds. Dubrovnik in November was warm and pleasantly sunny, while it was peaceful too. No jostling for position on the city walls, no waiting for a table outside the cafes in the old town. So the days may be shorter and you'd be well advised to take a coat but you'll have time to soak up the views of the Adriatic and space to admire the Venetian architecture. The highlight of an out-of-season trip to Croatia has to ... read more

Hello Everyone, Just a very quick hello to say we are now on the boat, had a long but enjoyable bus trip yesterday and arrived late last night. Spent the night on the boat and the day going into the markets and provisioning her. The boat is beautiful. We are heading out into the Kornati Island group which is very remote and very few,if any facilities so it might be a few days before we get a chance to do a big blog!!!. We have our crew caps courtesy of Lloyd, Angelic, Rubes and Phoebe as well as our special Pirate boarding party suit courtesy of Mick, Trace, Herb, Di & Laurie so we have most bases covered. We are also flying the aussie flag and listening to John Williamson!!! Catch you all soon. Lots of ... read more

Dobra Dan, (Hello) from Dubrovnik, Well at the moment it is 6.00pm on Thursday night, the 3rd of April. Sad to say the weather has taken a turn for the worst and it is a bit cold and rather wet outside, perfect hot chocolate weather for Debsy though so I guess every Croatian cloud has a calorie lining! Thought I would do a little blog update before we head north tomorrow and get on board our new home for the next 5 weeks, our yacht, ‘Paulina’. Not sure when we will get the opportunity again to say hello and let you know what we have been up to whilst we are sailing the Adriatic sea. Well after all of the excessive celebrations of our wedding anniversary it was time to let life settle down and after ... read more

There was a time when I was happy to touch down in a country with only a pack full of dirty clothes, a box full of wine, a smile and a willingness to sleep on the street. I would trust in the kindness of strangers and usually find myself in cheap, substandard accommodation. This style of travelling generally made for good stories, as it led to nights in mud huts, brothels and scary guesthouses; it also managed to get me onto a hijacked bus, get beat up in a bar in Singapore’s little India and be felt up by a Christian Fundamentalist on Australia’s East coast. Somewhere along the line I changed my ways and became obsessed with the most intricate details of my next trip. When I am not travelling I am planning to travel; ... read more

Saturday the 29th of March Goodbye to Germany and Hello to Croatia Well after a very memorable night in the home of Martin and Gisela it was time to get packing and get going off to Cologne. Cologne is a large city about 400 klms north, north west of Nurnberg and we had booked train tickets to get there from Nurnberg. The reason we are going to Cologne is that we had found relatively cheap airline tickets on the net from Cologne to Dubrovnik; in fact they were about a third of the next best price we could get from any other airline. We knew nothing about the airline called German wings except they started their flights very early, our flight out was at 5.45am!! Of interest was that we were advised that check ins commenced ... read more

Hokey cokey here we go again. Firstly if you start getting z's where y's should be - my apologies as they are in different places on this keyboard, and for a touch typist that's not so good!!! So we left Gloucester and headed down to Dover and caught the 6.00pmish crossing. Nothing eventful to report on that front at all! We headed up the coast toward Oostende and then basically turned right and headed towards Dortmund. David took on the driving to start with whilst I navigated which wasn't overlz difficult!!! On making our right turn towards Dortmund we started to get snow. And it continued snowing, but despite the snow depth getting more the roads remained absolutley clear and we had no problems whatsoever! We pulled in at one the exceptionally frequent laybys and put ... read more
