Journey and Arrival A quiet journey across the Serbian border and into Croatia, where a shopkeeper joins my cabin and we have a chat and a game of chess. Soon afterwards, a huge guy headed for Munich arrived and killed the conversation, so the remainder of the journey into Zagreb was pretty tedious. Out of the train and shortly later met Stipe in the station. Zagreb instantly struck me as a much more pretty city and I looked forward to it being better than Beograd. After grabbing some food and beer, and a tram down to Stipe's, we were ready to head into town. Sadly Stipe had work the next day (it was a Tuesday after all) but we still had time for a couple of drinks in the city centre. The first place we went ... read more

Dubrovnik October 1st London, Gatwick was easy and efficient. We didn't have to officially arrive in the country but were able to go through another security check into the transit area of the airport. Here Judy lost a small pair of scissors that were in the medical pouch that she had moved from check in to hand luggage before leaving Mexico.(due to still not feeling well) They had already been through 2 American Airline checks without being found - ridiculous isn't it? Arrival in Dubrovnik was also a breeze. Officials took a quick look at our passports and we quickly moved to where our luggage was already waiting before going through the doors and seeing Peter and Rachel immediately! From the airport we drove along the coast to our new home. We could already see that ... read more

Ok I know it's not one of our destinations, but the bus trip from Sibenik to Dubrovnik was amazing and well worth the 7 hour trip. While some of our photos will show this, nothing actually beats taking the trip and really seeing the amazing coastline, clear waters, mountains, and towns for yourself. The trip even takes you through Bosnia for about 30 minutes as the country has a small section of the coast. The road follows the coastline all the way and while we had stocked up with books etc to see us through the long trip - we couldn't take our eye off the windows enjoying the view. I would have loved to have taken a car along this stretch (except you can't just watch the views as you drive) - but would have ... read more

(Read this article on RoadJunky, at http://www.roadjunky.com/article/1804/sleazy-american-businessmen-in-zagreb) At 3 a.m, the topless hooker and the cocaine freak snuck off to a bedroom, leaving me alone with the old, Israeli bazillionaire and a box of hazelnut chocolates. I had an important choice to make. It was my first night in Zagreb and I was staying at a hostel down the road from the Dolac Market. After a long travel day I was in the mood for a drink, so I ordered an Ozujsko at one of the terraces along Tkalciceva Ulica and watched the people go by. Halfway through my beer, I noticed two American men standing outside the terrace, debating whether or not to come in for a drink. As soon as I heard them speak, I shouted out “English!” Not hearing my language for two ... read more

After a few days in Zadar and our trip out to Plitvice National Park, we hopped on a bus for the two hour trip to Sibenik. As the bus drove into Sibenik through these communist style, ugly high rises and dirty streets, I might have mumbled “Adam, please can we not get off the bus”. But Adam wasn’t listening and dragged me off the bus promising it had to get better than the bus station…. And it was. Once we rounded the corner and out onto the waterfront I changed my mind - the place seemed pretty nice and by the time we reached the old town I was loving the place! Well at least I did once we finally found our accommodation! The streets are about a million years old (that might be a slight ... read more

We'd been looking forward to coming to Dubrovnik for a while now to chill out - had planned to enjoy the sun, take a dip in the ocean, and Luke had his heart set on spending some quality time with the barman at the swim-up-bar at our hotel. Unfortunately, someone forgot to inform mother nature!! Bitch!! The first few days started pretty crappy, continuous rain and grey skies, but then cleared in the afternoon - so we shouldn't complain too much. We visited the charming town of Dubrovnik (into the old city) every evening for dinner - the food at our hotel is ridiculously overpriced - and even found the waiter who served Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas (according to a pic in a Croatian mag!!) Today was the first day of nothing but sunshine - ... read more

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Phoebe Here!! We have spent 5 days on this ship and so far have been to Katakolon, Izmir And Istanbul. Today we are getting off at Dubrovnik. Our ship is called Msc Orchestra. Its HUGE. In Katakolon we went to the first Olympic stadium. It was awesome. I didn’t get off at Izmir and I spent the day on the ship lazing about! The next day we went to the grand bazaar. It was like a huge indoor mall. I wanted to get some Turkish slippers but they had none in my size. =. Yesterday was spent a sea and we saw some one carving veggies. Every night we watch a show in the theartre on the ship. Its Really cool. Bye Bye  PHOEBE… READ MY SISTER’S BLOG Hi everybody its julia I am ... read more

The main reason we’d started in Zadar was to make it nice and easy to head up to Plitvice Lakes National Park. From when we first started planning our trip to Croatia this was one place we were both really excited to see. The pictures explain it the best but its draw card is the fact that there are 16 turquoise lakes which are all linked by waterfalls and cascades etc. Pretty amazing to see. Now before I go on, there’s something that needs explaining….over the two weeks we were in Croatia Adam and I decided that generally I tend to curse god and shake my fist at the sky far too often to be healthy and that bad things are going to happen as a result. Sometimes Adam tends to walk at a distance in ... read more

We knew we weren’t in London any more when our plane landed in a paddock and the police had the traffic stopped as our pilot drove the plane across a road to the terminal! We arrived in Zadar on Monday night the 24th September for the beginning of our two week trip around Croatia. We headed straight for our hostel to drop off our bags before heading off to try our first local pivo (beer) and check out Borik, the area of Zadar we were staying in. The hostel was right across from a big marina and just near a nice little beach. A nice change from London. The next morning after our delicious dry bread breakfast (and some weird meat paste….) we headed to the old town of Zadar for a look around. The bus ... read more

There are many difficulties while traveling. Most are not the difficult to deal with. They are minor things like, Will I find a place to sleep? Will this bus/train be full? Will I get pickpocketed in this city? See, terribly minor things that are truly not life or death...But let me enlighten you on the truly life or death question you ask yourself every day..... Will this bathroom have Toilet Paper? Now I do not know about you, but when I walk into a bathroom, I have never truly looked for toilet paper. I just always assumed it would be there. Assumed that when it was needed it was free of charge. Maybe you have as well (I got a suspicion the ladies who are reading this might have a different view then me.). Well unfortunately ... read more
