We made port in Croatia and it was more beautiful than I could have imagined. A blue harbor with many people enjoying themselves on their boats and white houses lining the hillsides. We took a short bus ride into Dubrovnik. This is such a cute town that still has high city walls surrounding it. The best part is, that you can pay to walk the city walls, and we did just that. I took some awesome photos and posted a few here for you to see. It took us about 45 minutes to walk most of the city wall and then we decided to stop to get a bite to eat. Along the way we saw local people hanging laundry, sitting on their porches, children in school, working on construction, etc. ... read more

Split! Wonderful Split! What a beautiful town. The excessive excitement may have a lot to do with the fact that I am once again with my one true love, the ocean. I had a huge dilemma on the night before leaving zagreb. Some people were planning on heading to these beautiful lakes (called platvitch or something) that was quite a few hours away from zagreb. And although I badly wanted to see them, I knew the weather was going to be terrible. So I ummed and arrghed for most of the day but decided id rather do it when the weather was nice (i should be able to backtrack to the lakes from split). And as I was on my early train towards split I encountered non-stop rain all the way to the coast, so I ... read more

We have learned that if we want sailing to be enjoyable we need to be flexible. We had planned to head south into Montenegro for a few days before heading north with Thetis, however the 5-day forecast predicted, accurately as it happens, that we would encounter SE winds up to 40 knots. with rain showers changing to the NE after 3 days. This would means 7 hours banging into the wind to get to Montenegro and the same coming back. We decided Montenegro could wait for another year with more favorable winds and headed north on a leisurely broad reach. First stop, Cod Marca on Sipan. The food is delicious with smoked tuna and garlic shrimp to die for with a main course of Amber Jack caught in the morning. Moored just off the restaurant we ... read more

Hey all. Yesterday I was up very early to catch a train to Zagreb. The train was an older train with these crappy seats that mustve been designed for midgets because the bits of the cushion that is supposed to support your head while resting was doing a great job of supporting my shoulder blades (so so so uncomfortable), that was until about 3 hours into the train ride when I figured out that they can slide up to accomodate all sizes of ppl, HAHA. I am such an idiot, however I was not the only one who didnt figure it out straight away, some didnt figure it out at all. Finally being comfortable I had a chance to sleep the remaining 3 hours of the journey but that didnt happen due to the border crossing ... read more

I know it's only until June 16 that we're doing the free dinner on the first night, but it was a shame to miss out on the picnic in Hvar. Pax love it, it allows us to do something special for them, and it's a good money-maker for us. If it's possible to get some leeway on when the boat does the free dinner so that we can still do the picnic, that would be great. But we made do anyway; we brought bottles of wine down to the beach and watched the sunset from there after dinner (both mine and Carlos' groups went together). So we didn't miss out entirely on a picnic-like experience. And, once again, Kiva bar was a roaring success and Sasa was terrific to everyone (and the girls loooove Sasa). Day ... read more

Wednesday was a good day to leave England as the showers had developed into a steady rain with gloomy skies. In Dubrovnik, however, we were greeted by a lightening storm and torrential rain that lasted into the wee hours of the morning. All things pass, however, and it is now a bright, sunny day as we stroll around the walls of the old town wearing shorts. We had planned to stay in the old town so I was apprehensive to hear that someone at Ekker Yachting had reserved a B&B for us 15 minutes walk away. A similar booking in Zadar turned out to be a B&B owned by someone's aunt and was in the back of beyond requiring bus rides and long walks to reach the old town. Our Dubrovnik B&B is run by someone's ... read more

Hi all We left you full of beautiful food in London. Well, then we flew to Budapest and continued our journey by train and coach to Dubrovnik. Whilst the beautiful coastal drive south of Split is well known we were blown away by the train ride from Zageb to Split. It takes seven hours on a tilt train travelling through the mountains and high valleys of Croatia. We couldn't stop oohing and aahing on the scenery and the comfort of the modern fast train. Finally about 8pm we descended the last steep mountain to Split- it felt as if we would tumble straight into the ocean! After one night in Split we continued by coach along the Adriatic coast to Dubrovnik. The original road that twists and turns along the steep coastal mountains is still in ... read more

Check-in; Pax checked in: 13 Two pax didn't show up. We waited until about 2:30 for them, and I left a message with my mobile number on their phone. Dan Toebosch sent me an email saying they had missed their flight from London and would call me when they got to Croatia, but I never heard from them. Which is a real shame because they were 19-year old American boys and I wanted to see them go crazy in Croatia since they are allowed to drink here! Day 1; Sipan Pax for dinner: 13 (bbq) Sipan is possibly the greatest island to stop at on the first night. It is super tiny, beautiful, peaceful, very traditional and real, and we all felt totally at home here. Everyone drank on the boat, sat on the dock and ... read more

Welcome to Montenegro! Bryan's international cell phone got a short, but sweet text message to welcome us to a new country. Supposedly we crossed the international boundary of Montenegro, on our way to Croatia. The Dalmatian Coast is very beautiful, and development has been racing to accomodate the streaming of tourists to this picturesque region. Unfortunately this was a quick visit in Croatia - the immigration didn't even check our passports to stamp the entrance mark into Croatia! -Cy... read more
