This past summer I had a couple of weeks to spare so together with a bunch of friends, I decided to take a few days of vacation down in Croatia to enjoy some of its famous sailing tours. Straight up, I have to say, not only are the sailing grounds spectacular, but also the entire experience is simply magical. If you have ever been to the beautiful and unique Croatia, you know it is made up of lively towns, charming villages, scenic national parks, history landmarks and generally a peaceful waterfront. Couple this with a knowledgeable and incredible sailing team and the base becomes simply unbeatable. It was quite tough for us to choose where to begin since Croatia has more than 1100 islands to explore , all of which offer something unique. We learned that ... read more

We got into Marina Kastela on Saturday afternoon, after detouring once for a quick final swim. At this point, people prepared to go separate ways. First things first - SHOWER. None of us could wait five minutes once we tied up to take a real shower, with hot water, in a big room, without swimsuits (if so desired). Going to a real bathroom. Brushing our teeth. I stood in the shower for a good twenty minutes. It shut off after about 30 seconds, but it was still hot and allowed me to thoroughly wash my hair multiples times, shave, and just clean all the salt, sweat and dirt off my body. After this, Marko prepared to go to his grandmother's for the evening, dropping Fay and Christoff and I at Split. Luka and Ivana were having ... read more

Our final day in Hvar started much too early for a stop that was meant to be relaxing, but, it allowed us to make it to Split in time for our schedule tours. Also, fortunately for us, we apparently had one of the last ferry tickets off the island today, presumably from Ultra stragglers. After a quick breakfast, we walked along the shore to the ferry terminal while the hotel used a golf-cart to bring our bags and others’ over to the ferry terminal. With the ferry not yet arrived and thinking we had time, Stacey went and got some cappuccinos to go while James waited in-line. Unfortunately, that plan backfired and it took forever to get the Cappuccinos so we were almost the last people to board the ferry. We enjoyed the ride back and ... read more

Depart Sarajevo headed for Split. We are told to bring snacks with us as the place we are stopping at doesn't cater too well for coach groups (why stop there you ask - hmmmm). A quick stop on the Bosnian side at a pretty little restaurant on the side of a mountain where they specialise in lamb on the spit (cooked pretty much in its entirety - i.e. the whole head still on, even the eyes). Smelt spectacular, didn't look overly great with the head doing circles. Our route takes us back through Mostar and then on to Split. We get through Mostar then take a turn into the back streets. Are we lost again Guisseppe, no, this is a deliberate ploy to get to a smaller border crossing According to Viktor. Seems we are going ... read more

Why did we choose to go to Split and Croatia for a long weekend? This was not just because we were curious about the country (which we were) and got a supercheap flight. The reason was quite different…. It is about 1,5 years ago that we both met our spiritual master Sri Swami Vishwananda . With neither of us being religious (we are both atheists), without any experiences with yoga and meditation before, we had started to do some mediation 2 years ago due to Nina’s illness. Somehow we knew that this illness was not an accident but the result of disharmonies in the body due to a disturbed flow of energies. Well, it happend that this form of yoga we learned here in Switzerland (it is called Atma Kriya Yoga ) is spread by Sri ... read more

Woke to torrential rain as forecast. No complaints, because we have been super lucky with the weather up until today. Way too wet for anything and the brekky buffet is extra busy, as everyone has stayed in at the resort. As the afternoon cleared a bit, caught a taxi back into town for a stroll around. We went up to a lookout in Marjan park, sick of walking as it was quiet humid after the rain, only made it half way. Back in and around town for a few small souvenirs and the day is done. Uneventfull day for a change.... read more

After some disappointed with missing the blue cave tour due to weather ( too windy today and rain tommorrow) we head to the Zip line adventure. It is run from a small town called Omiss about 45 minutes away. The town is beautiful, with huge Rocky Mountains surrounding the river and the sea. Now this zip line is not for the faint hearted and Michelle is a bit scared of heights, but she steps up anyway. There are eight zip lines, with the first one taking you over a valley for an amazing 700 metres. The other seven are a bit shorter but still breathing taking. One you can do as a tandem and get pics, but we were too worried about dropping the Iphone. Another one they encourage you to stop in the middle and ... read more

Woke to a perfect day, blue skies around 25 degrees. The pool and beach look great, but we have to see the town today. We take the 40 minute stroll along the beach into town. A lot different to other destinations, it feels a lot poorer, but happier community here. Most of the old croations are spending there day on beaches or playing cards, whilst the young ones all speak excellent English and have hospitality or tourism jobs. All are very polite and we haven't found any different with the anyone we have met. The old town square is still based around the crumbling walls, built back in the 3 or 4 th century. The markets are mainly common people selling the small amount of produce they have grown or caught. There doesn't seem to be ... read more

Leaving Venice for Split Croatia starts with 40 minute water taxi to Venice airport. Very busy airport, advisable to leave heaps of time to check in. First we get a smaller plane to Vienna and then we change to Split. We walk through the departure gate to discover a bus will take us to the other side of the airport to our plane. Both planes are only about an hour flying, but you spend a lot time in queues and security checks. Landing in Split and instantly you feel comfortably with less people and hustle bustle of the big Italian towms. Airport shuttle gets us to town and then a taxi to our hotel. We have a great outlook over the water and it reminds us a lot of the Whitsundays. Dinner on the balcony was ... read more
