this is a quote we have used many times - please note the sarcasm!! Honestly I thought I would have a good time but man - life really is superb!! we went to the NZ game the other day and as per usual we flogged them. Yesterday we saw the true Caribbean style as well as the poms in fine form. The game was unreal - we had sensational seats and the beer was great. As you would all know the game was a corker! Now I am sharing with a 21 year old Sydney girl - not a coke snorter - thank goodness!! She is great value. Last night she did not come home 'til 9am. I am happy with her form! I was Cinderella and was home pissed in bed alone (that's for you ... read more

It is almost time to change our cruise run to the new ports and this week are our final stops in St. Kitts, St. Lucia and St. Maarten. Yesterday we were in St. Kitts. I spent another day on the beach at the Marriott Hotel. Though this time, they wanted us to pay $125 US to go on the beach. The beaches are all public, so we’re allowed on the beach, but they wouldn’t let us walk through the hotel to get there. So we walked around the entire resort, then down along the beach. An hour or so later, we were told we couldn’t lie on the beach chairs either without paying the $125 day pass, so on the sand we moved. All this even though we were spending money on food and drinks! That ... read more

35c, Fine The bumpy 3 hour ride from Dominica to St Lucia via catamaran was highly uneventful. I wished something had of happened because I had this sinking feeling in my stomach that I wasn’t going to like what St Lucia had to offer - either that or I was worried I’d be kicked out. I had no CARICOM visa and St Lucia was a big player in the cricket finals (which were a few days away). Little Dominica had given me a CARICOM wrist band which SHOULD let me in without passport inspection (and discovery that I have no CARICOM visa). Luck was on my side and the over crowded immigrations official called out “we need anyone with a CARICOM band to go straight thru, this will simplify the process”. I was through… I’d ... read more

Today was fantastic! We are in St. Lucia. I went with Brooks, Kristina, Kevin and Chelsea to Pigeon Island, a National Park off the Northern end of St. Lucia. After an incredibly emotional night last night (more of the same, anxiety over people leaving and generally feeling vulnerable and unsettled), I was determined to enjoy the day and enjoy the island. I’m so happy we went to Pigeon Island. I feel like I finally got to see some of St. Lucia - I hadn’t taken enough advantage of this beautiful port yet. It is such a beautiful island, filled with rolling hills covered with lush trees and plants. It’s truly beautiful. Pigeon Island was fortified by the British during the 1700s and used to keep watch on Martinique where the French were. The island is now ... read more

On the right wing of a butterfly. As I have mentioned before, the route that we currently sail is called a Butterfly route in the cruising industry. This means that we do both the western and eastern Caribbean. Last week we were cruising the western side of the Caribbean and today we are cruising back to our home port from the eastern Caribbean. The crew activities are going well at this point and last week when we were in Panama, I managed to get off the ships with some of my friends for about two hours and good and look for more decorations. It is amazing how cheap things are to buy in Panama. So I managed to get coloured ribbons for the stoplight party, water guns and balloons for the wet party and buy myself ... read more

I decided to make St. Lucia a beach day. The next time we’re here will be my birthday and I’ll do some sort of exciting excursion that day. Today I just wanted to relax. Many people at home have commented to me about how great it must be to get to lie on the beach all the time. But it hasn’t happened as much as I would have thought, considering how long I’ve been down here. And for some reason, it’s never really felt relaxing. It’s more been just what I was doing when there wasn’t something else to do. Today was like the best days of any vacation where you lie on the beach. St. Lucia is gorgeous. The beach reminded me of the Dominican - brown sand, pebbly, brownish water by the shore. But ... read more

It’s hard to believe we’ve already spent 3 weeks in beautiful St. Lucia! Our time in St. Lucia is rapidly drawing to a close. We’ll be leaving on Saturday for St. Kitts, our home for the next two years. They gave us our ‘island assignments’ on Monday, and tomorrow we’ll find out flight details…we’re all hoping that the no carry-on restrictions in Europe aren’t in effect here, because when packing for two years one takes full advantage of the one carry-on and one personal item rule!  It’s hard to even think now what to write about, as it has been so long since we’ve had a chance. So many times I’ve thought of things I wanted to type for the website…if only I could bring them all back to mind now! We’re staying with a ... read more

St Lucia is not soo sunny at the moment, we have just entered into the hurricane season so the the weather is neither here nor there. We arrived in St Lucia on the 15th June, after a very long night at Miami airport- I felt like I needed a trip to the Chiropractor after sleeping on some very hard chairs that night! When we arrived in St Lucia it was so humid I thought a storm was about to start, as we are staying near Castries and we landed at the other airport at the other end of the island we had to get a taxi up here, it cost 160 EC, about 36 pounds, which was pretty expensive, but as we were soon to learn, everything is expensive for tourists in St Lucia! We have ... read more

Having a good time in St Lucia although the weather hasn't been great for the last 2 days - it rained all day yesterday! Mexico was fun - the week went by so quickly, I really don't know where the time went. We spent most of the time relaxing by the pool and the beach and just chilling out really. We did one day trip where we did some jungle walking, absailing, fox flying and walking up the pyramid. We also went to this club called Fat Tuesdays and I didn't realise it would be on the beach and stupidly wore heals - and not just any heals but my new Nine West shoes!! As it was Summer Break though we felt like we'd invaded it - there were just lots of 18 year old Americans ... read more
