So I arrived in Honduras! I started off in Colonial Santa Rita which is a little outskirt of Zarabanda which is outside Tegucigalpa. The weather was so unbelievably cooler than in D.R. and so much more foresty than I would have thought. There were pine trees and mountains basically all around us. I was living with a really great family for a couple of days but now I´m in Talanga. I´m in the same Department of Francisco Morazan that I was in, but maybe about 30 minutes away from Zarabanda. It´s hotter here and a little bit more rural, but still not that bad temperature wise. SO now we´ve all started Field Based Training. The three groups have split up so instead of being a group of 50, we´re a group of 16 Youth Development volunteers ... read more

We arrived at the hotel and all the kids with PSP's found a wireless signal. For those out of touch with hand held game consoles a PSP is a Playstation you can hold in your hands, and it uses wireless internet. One of my 7th graders found out the pass code and now I'm blogging. Currently I am in my room with Melvin and Dennis; both 7th graders. Melvin is watching the Simpsons and Dennis is playing video games. Now Nelson and Kevin, two 8th graders, just walked in the room. Nelson took Dennis' video game away and now they are both gone. Dennis would like to say the following: "Hello. Today we swim in the pool... It was dirty. And I go to take a shower and Melvin was in swimming and he swallow a ... read more

It has been a long time since the last time I wrote and there have been several days of crazy adventures and Mayan Ruins. From Belize we traveled back to Guatemala... to Flores, which is an island on a lake in Northern Guatemala. The main reason people go to Flores is to visit the famous Mayan Ruins, Tikal, although the little town is nice (but expensive). The ruins are more then I would have ever expected, what makes them even more amazing is the jungle that surrounds them. As you climb to the top of a ruin you can hear all sorts of animals, growling, howling, chirping, etc. (I promise to put up pictures soon). Aditionally, it was quite incredible that they had almost the whole village uncovered... there was like a central area and then ... read more

Hola! I have made it...after a veryyy long flight, all the waiting n sleeping on aiport benches was worth it! One of the first things someone mentioned to me was how was your landing... did u know Honduras has the 3rd shortest runway in the world! hehe. I didnt.. perhaps sets a tone of the unexpected suprises you might find in Honduras? I was greeted at arrivals by my co'ordinator Eliza, who took me to the quiet, pretty town of Ville De Angeles, i stayed with another volunteer who is teaching in La Esperanza for a few weeks. We were both greeted by Matt, another co'ordinator out here, who was realy supportive and said any problems we had just let him know. He also gave me Loadds of useful info on Honduras including diving info, hehe! I ... read more

So, we've been in Zamorano since Wednesday. I couldn't pick that from the drop down menu of cities that I could chose from...it's pretty small and it's mostly an agriculture school with a little town around it. The campus is actually its own self sufficient little town with homes, a pool, a church, a bank, a clinic, a grocery store and all the areas of study for the students and the professors. This is where my parents worked after they were done with Peace Corp. They were both teachers here. It's been pretty amazing to meet some of the people from back then that are still around. I remembered a few people and I surprised everyone since the last time I saw them was when I was 5 years old. It was pretty cool to hear ... read more

Hello everyone, Just to let you all know I am now safely in Honduras. The floghts were all pretty cushty, and I stayed at a motel last night, had a bath, watched Xmen 2 and relaxed- which was fantastic. I met up with loads of people who are doing various courses with i-to-i, all of whom seem really nice. We all arrived in Teg, the capital, at 12 then we met up with more volunteers and got met by elisa, contact, who took us all for lunch at her families restauarant, which was a vast improvement on the plane food. Now we´re all staying at a hotel for a night - going off to our places tomorrow. Having some drinks and generally a really good time! So so far so good.... Miss you all, and thankyou ... read more
