Our Central American adventure began last week when we arrived in the Cahuita national park, in north-east province of Limon. The national park is the site of one of WIDECAST's many sea turtle conservation projects in the Caribbean. The park is breathtaking, and we see new species of wildlife every day, including toucans, howler monkeys, whitefaced cappuchin monkeys, leatherback seaturtles, lizards, black vultures, pit vipers and most importantly nightly visits from the resident raccoon, if you can believe it. Our work here consists of 14km nightly patrols of the beach, for seaturtles coming to nest. Although the walk and the hours can be grueling, seeing the turtles makes it truly worthwhile.
