Hola! Back again and It has officially been two months! Ehh makes me nervous cause I still fill like i have alot of goals left to accomplish.. como 1) master Spanish (not even close) 2) make ALOT of tico friends which is actually i alot harder than I thought it was going to be. Was it stupid to assume that because I am an exchange student that people were going to just automatically want to be my friend? Silly girl.. All i have to say is that I'm going to be super super nice to any and all exchange students when I get back home. Okay its not like anyone here is mean (well there have been a few "interesting" incidents) but not too many are just super friendly. I have starting going to this English ... read more

Over the next few days we didnt get any better, we got worse! We managed to go to the serpentarium with over 40species of snakes there and to the Ranario, lots of frogs and the butterfly house which was pretty cool, lots of greenhouses with live butterflies. But the rest of the time we stayed in the room. Finally we decided we had to move to Cahuita, on the other side of the country. We took the 6am bus to San Jose, then a midday connection to Cahuita, we arrived in the arvo. We found a hotel called Surf Side Cabanas for $20 a night, private bathroom and a kitchen. This side of the country as a much higher rate of spoken english, the caribean accent again. We both still felt ill and next morning we ... read more

Lo siento pero no quiero escribir en español hoy. Fue un fin de semana con mucho español y quiero hablar un poco de inglés. Saturday I had to get up at 4:30 am to get ready for our trip to Cahuita. We had a 6 am bus departing from downtown San Jose so we had a shuttle pick us up around 5 am. There were 10 of us on the trip which made it very fun (and a little difficult at times). After a brief argument with the bus driver I snuck my bag onboard (he wanted me to put it under, but with what I have heard about the buses in Costa Rica there was no way I was going to allow this!) and was able to stuff it into the overhead compartment much to ... read more

April 4th: Today, Easter Sunday, we crossed the Continental Divide to Panama’s Caribbean coast. We both agree that today’s drive was absolutely the most beautiful of our entire Central American trip. We drove thru cloud forests and rain forests that surpassed any that we saw in Costa Rica. The highway was lined with tropical plants, many of them in bloom, and with wild impatiens. We passed more than a dozen water falls and several quaint little villages of stilted thatched cottages. At one village where we stopped to take zoomed photos of a cottage from the road, we attracted the attention of a couple of kids. The way they came running and screaming, we clearly did not have the impression that they wanted to invite us in for coffee. We always try to be discreet when ... read more
The road was washed out in many places. Unlike Costa Rica, Panama was seriously trying to reconstruct their roads.
This is a cloud forest. Although the term sounds exotic, they are just low level clouds. We can also enjoy the phenomenon in Washington’s Olympic Forest.

Hi it's Omer, Nitzan and our mom, and this time we're gonna tell you about Cahuita National park of Costa Rica. I - Omer go first: From the village of Tortuguero, we took a motor boat to a town called Pavona, from there we took another bus to another town called Cariari, from there we took another bus to a town called Guapiles, and from there ANOTHER BUS to a city called Limon. We got there at about 6:30 p.m. But the problem was that there are no buses to Cahuita at that time, because the last bus to Cahuita leaves at 6:00 p.m. We had no choice, but to sleep there, in Limon, and take the bus in the morning at 9:00 a.m. So we started to look for a hostel, soon we found one ... read more

Our second week at the sancutary was a bit quieter than the first week.  At the beginning of the week, some of our new friends left-and new volunteers arrived. In addition to our feeding and cleaning activities, we also helped out with some yardwork and everyones favorite-exercising the babies.  The little ones have a jungle gym for climbing practice, and sometimes they get some climbing exercise on a small tree in the grassy area. You may notice some of the sloths look a bit orange - its a homeopathic treatment for mange. Its made from achote, and helps to soothe the itching and irritation. Midweek, we took a day off and went into Cahuita to do some banking and grab an espresso. On the afternoon, we walked to the beach that is close to the volunteer ... read more

After a very humid night with heavy rain bouncing off the tin roof, the dawn chorus was enough to wake us up at 07h00. Greeted by a beautiful blue sky and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, we ate a very leisurely breakfast, so leisurely that some never arrived, before boarding the bus and heading for Cahuita, a national park covering coral reefs, coastal rain forest and semi-mangroves. Walking some 5 miles along the white sandy beach, with palm trees gently bending in the warm breeze was sheer delight. Overhead, howler monkeys lay sunning themselves, as did a family of iguana. On the ground, leaf-cutter ants busied themselves carrying their loads along cleared paths whilst large spiders hung awaiting their next meal.... read more

We headed to the Carribean coast from Turrialba in the morning and arrived at the Sanctuary around 11:00. We were excited when we saw our new friends from Denmark had also decided to volunteer, it was nice to see familiar faces. Right away we jumped on a tour so that we could begin to learn about the sanctuary and the sloths we would be taking care of. After a welcome BBQ, we helped with our first feeding and got settled in. When we arrived, there were 5 other volunteers. We are staying at the volunteer house, which is accross the street from the sanctuary. There are 4 rooms for volunteers at the house, and 2 bathrooms. There's a kitchen and eating area, and TV. We have a stocked fridge with basics, and we make our own ... read more

So after waking with a slight hangover we headed straight for Mojos again for a yummy buritto breakfast! yumm!! We then checked out of our hostel and lugged our bags (which we believe somehow are getting heavier - maybe from all the bugs that are crawling into them every night) to the bus stop. Going by our trusty travel bible we thought we would only have to wait half hour for the bus. Turns out we arent as bright as we thought and the bus wasnt for another hour and a half! so we made ourselves comfortable and waited! As the bus pulled up, we realised everyone was whipping out these little white tickets... why did we not have these? where did we get them from? dammit! why did we not understand the travel arrangements out ... read more

So today was an early start! we wanted to go to the national park before catching a bus to San Jose. When we got to the park it was pretty quiet and we only had to pay a donation which was really good too! We wondered along a trail that followed the beach which was cool as we got to see the waves and the sand but also the jungle. First Sighting, claimed by Sandra: Monkeys! We could just about see a couple of them above us in the trees having their breakfast! Second sighting, claimed by Tasha: TOUCANS!! Tasha spotted the Toucan not far away and quickly jabbed Sandra to look in the same direction. When she went to tap Emilys shoulder she couldnt see her... off emily has wondered towards the beach. Before this ... read more
