As many of the chinese parks, also this one is a very special piece of it's surroundings. Spacially it seems like they just wanted to create as much of the most enjoyable enviroment there...a shore with weeping willows. And they sucedded. The park is a set of islands, bridges and walkways connecting them, all one a remaining piece of whater that once belonged to the Kunming's lake Dian Chi. Who liked hanging out in Ljubljana's Trnovo under Plecnik's willow trees before they had to cut them...is just loving this park already to start with. As you take in it's spirit...it's a lot of elderly citizens just having fun, playing cards, streching, chatting, excercising, dancing, singing...with one word...PLAYING. Actually the chinese have a word for it...and it would serve as 'to have a good time' or as ... read more

It's the largest Buddhist comlpex in Kunming, a Tang dynasty design, 1200 years old. What was best for me here was...that part of it is being renovated so I could see the bare wooden structures of temple buildings, before they will colour it. Some parts were still being put together, so I coould hang out there and just observe the workers. Again it's a peacefull oasis in the middle of a city. What was peculiar at this temple for me was a large number of all kinds of turtles in the main temple pond. At first you get an impression, that there are only few among the always present goldfish, but then you realise it's a kind of a turtle sanctuary! So I have a suggestion for my brother, where to take his turtle to outlive ... read more

So my second part of Dali story will be more about the Bai people and their lifestyle. They call themselves BAI, which has a first meaning of white, but what they mean by it is actually PURE. Also their traditional clothing is basically white, with colorful highlights. Women wear special kind of head thing, which is wowen with symbols, representing feng , hua, xue and yue. All four of them are connected with romance and falling inlove. But the Bai have their own story for each of these symbols. FENG-the wind (Xiaguan wind) myth: in Chinese mythology it is also possible for animals to acquire a human form (like Kung-fu Panda, hehe). So there was a snake, who has become a beautiful young lady. She fell inlove with a goodlooking young man, who was to avoid ... read more

...this post is published mostly cause I promised to my super great coworkers back home, to make my point of how different the real chinese food really is... cause many times, when we go out for lunch to a local chinese guy....I might complain... ...so there...I sacrified for you guys, and made a show of myself many times in restaurants here, by taking photos of just ordinary food! Yea...imagine you're in a local home food restaurant and a person starts to take photos of some mashed potatoes!En fajn zabeljen prazen krompir, na primer! Yes! That was me sometimes here in China! From now on...I'll just enjoy the food, no cameras anymore....untill I meet with my Chef friend! Then hopefully...another post on some cooking follows. Unless something drastic and supertasty happens on the way before that! There's ... read more

Ja. Seveda so na Beijing time). Malo dezja malo cisto jasnega na nebu. Ob osmih in se malo: ogromna mavrica na nebu nad Dalijem in njegovimi gorami. Najprej po par ... read more

If up'till now I always had a genuine feeling of China... this limestone forrest definately didn't give me one. The place is out of time and out of any special coordinates. It could just as well have been somewhere in the mediteranean. Maybe cause Slovenian Carst has been the base for the carstic terminology and it's something I grew up with. Or maybe just because carst is carst...wherever it may be. So all kinds of formations found here... were notnig new for me. But here I'm talking only about segments of carst. This forrest is a total upgrade of all my carstic knowledge. As if someone has been giventools and basic carstic elements and has digitalised it but then also carved it out for real! stone ...work of art! artists: WATER ...with some assistance of WIND ... read more

...an half an hour quick visit to the oldest and the most extensive Taoist temple around Chengdu, after a tiring hot and humid day outside made me feel as if I was resting there my whole day. It's just amazing how many islands of peace and tranquility one lively city as Chengdu has. Temples, gardens, vorshiping, contemplating. Recharging batteries at the end of my too short stay at Chengdu. Ritornero!... read more

OK, so no business with my friend in Chengdu without trying the real thing! HUO GUO - hot pot Best ones come from this area, although the most praised hotpot is from ChongQing. Chengdu however has it's own version (they have their own version on everything, I suppose) that is putting pieces of food into the pot by using long wooden sticks. To me it looks even more photogenic. Also the mixtures of spice that's put in to the boiling broth is different but the base is the same: HOT! We went twice...in two days. Not bad for a tourist. There are supposed to be some hard core huoguo lovers, who are able to have it in the morning... some rookie tips: -choose to boil the food that you know and really like to eat it ... read more

First some useful info on how to get in for free! Go to the supermarket and ask for a PANDA card. You will need to show you ID. Then...log in...and make youself an online profile for that card. For that you might need some help of a Chinese, maybe hostel staff. So you fill in the form...registrate...and there you go... Find you way to the Panda Park (we took a cab...cause we kind of were not sure about how much time we have, but it's also accessible by bus (1 or 2 RMB per ride). When you get there...you go in for free! With the same card...you can also enter some Chengdu museums for free and some other stuff. A very good information to have before you start to go around! It was a hot sunny ... read more

Seveda godejo cisto svojo vizo! Moj prijatelj YB je bil z vsakim prevozenim kilometrom proti dezeli boljse volje, ... read more
