1957 Plane Crash

Great adventures!
How wise to stay in a place for awhile and get to know if from so many angles--by boat, bike and foot! The Inn and its meals look heavenly. That plane in the forest was really pause for thought, as I love to take very small planes--from Juneau, I took one that flew low over many glaciers, and in Talkeetna, I took one that flew low between mountain tops up to the summiting base camp on one of Denali's glaciers. Glad you got out safely!

Some really great flights
Thanks for your comments yet again - sounds to us as though you have had some really great flights the Denali Glacier must have been magical.

Wow!!!
You really have traveled to the best places in America...not only around the West, but now the Alaskan bush. I can't wait to read your future blogs.

Just Beer not Wine
Paul's favourite is the Alaskan Amber - but would have any of the others if there was no Amber, he does not like wine though so I'm happy!

Peregrine Falcon
Hi Paul & Sheila, looking forward to reading this blog later but wanted to say how fantastic your photos were of the PF ( I believed you, thought to myself, that doesn't look like any Osprey I have seen but perhaps they are different in US!). Are you going to enter them in the Wanderlust photo comp? If you have not seen it go to their site

Stunning
What stunning scenery & a great blog as usual. How brave Sheila to get into a plane that size-I've seen bigger waste containers-scary!! Hope you enjoyed all the beers Paul, John thinks he will stick to his usual thanks. Love the picture of Glacier Bay Diving, they look quite graceless - bit of a belly flop really. We have added to our grandchildren-a boy born last night-John is catching up now! Look forward to your next post. xx

It looks so nice and peaceful! That flight in the small plane to reach Gustavus (Strawberry point is a much nicer name than Gustavus!) would have freaked me out, though!

Friends or Foe

Astounding wildlife shots!
I've so enjoyed following your adventures through some of our wondrous parks. I'm from Santa Barbara, just a little south of San Simeon, so your visits to the elephant seals, Hearst Castle, the beaches and wildlife made me properly homesick! I must say, I've been shocked by the prices charged for the campgrounds and the giant mobile homes you've encountered. I remember crossing the country in my tiny Toyota Corolla, sleeping in my bag on the ground and being astounded at those giants "camping" with their TVs. Also, I hope you know that the majority of American want gun ownership eliminated and many of us work hard toward that end. There's just a rich gun lobby that donates lots of money to politicians' campaigns, so we've not been successful--yet. I love Alaska, so I'm looking forward to your adventures there. Bon voyage!

North American adventure
You appear to be loving it! Of course, who wouldn't? It's sure a great experience and you're doing it the right way. Keep on the move and remember to smell the roses on the way. Love the choice of name. David and Janice The Grey-haired-nomads!

Pink Ledges Trail

Zion--a trip to heaven
So glad you got to do the Narrows--one of my favorite hikes! You were lucky to be here in the summer because in the spring, the trail is closed due to flash floods. How exciting, too, that you got to see a fox hunting a deer (and that the deer got away). I'm so impressed by these NP shuttles. So great to reduce traffic and pollution and to allow you to enjoy rather than creeping along and then having to find parking. Well done, NP!

Magical place!
Thanks for sharing! Great pics too! What a spectacular destination! I was at the Grand Canyon and farther up at Zion: amazing area! Bryce Canyon is on my list. Is August a good time to visit? Must be crazy hot! I like the idea of packing bottles of white wine on a hike ;-)

Bryce Amphitheatre - wow

Incredible hoodoos!
Outstanding photos as usual! I love your inclusion of fun facts--the differences among the conifers (which I've learned before and also always forget) and among our adorable little rodents, the speed of the Pronghorn Antelope and the names of the wildflowers and birds. Now, off to the promised land, Zion.
