I am a 36-year old language teacher, currently working in Beijing. I was born in France but China has been my home for many years. I taught French and English in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, for 6 years. I never thought I would stay in China for such a long time but it’s been an amazing experience! Professionally speaking, teaching Chinese students is extremely rewarding. They are so hard-working and eager to learn new things. And then China… there aren’t enough words to describe this intricate (hence fascinating) country.
“China is not to be liked or disliked: it is simply to be absorbed by your senses. It’s like being in a car crash while your radio is playing Mozart. A part of you is entranced while another part is being jarred to hell.” (Lawrence Tyler)
In 2013 I decided I was done with China and I embarked on a glorious bike trip to Central Asia. I spent 8 months cycling across Gansu and Xinjiang Provinces in China, then off to Tajikistan (the Pamirs), Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It was the trip of a lifetime! But as I was planning this journey (a few months before leaving) I met a girl… and this is why I am now back in Beijing! I am still dreaming of cycling the end of the Silk Road in the near future… with my girlfriend this time!
Until then, we will be in Asia working hard and hopefully playing hard too!
I was born in 1981 in a small town on the Loire River, France. I grew up around Roanne.
In 1997 I got to go on a one-year exchange in Colville, Washington State, USA. This experience abroad changed my life. This is where I learned English and decided I would become a teacher, teach French or English and travel the world.
I went to college at Lyon III University where I got a Master's in Education and also the opportunity to spend a year at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. I finished writing my thesis while teaching high school French in Perth, Western Australia (what a place!).
Feel free to contact me if you are planning a trip to China or Central Asia. I’ll try my best to answer any question you may have.
