Woah, they have added Sheffield? That is amazing! (take it off immediately!! we are not worthy, we have chavs, that discounts us from any international recognition!) On the 11th of October I'm setting off on my journey to Thailand, ready for the nifty hop over to Cambodia. To fly directly to Cambodia is stupid money, but to go to Thailand first, hop, skip, flight over.... easy peasy (or is it... watch this space). I am going alone. Just me and my baggage. I am a bit concerned about the physical implications due to the pain (RSD etc) but, the challenge is enourmous and I am, well, i am trying to make myself realise, not only can I do this, I can enjoy it too. I'm all sorted now, no accommodation booked yet, but that is part ... read more

Wow, its bloody hot here! I am so pleased we decided to fight the angry mob and change our flights to Chennai, it is sooooooo good down here. MESSAGE FOR SAM - YES PLEASE CAN WE HAVE THOSE CONTACT NUMBERS? thank you xxxxx I can't use MSN as my password has a character we can't get up on the Indian keyboards! Yesterday we ventured into Chennai Central Zone and talk about overload of sensory perceptions! Smells, sounds, sights, a cacophony of everythingness all pushed into small spaces! There was so much happening that I can't remember anything apart from smiling and feeling happy. I am a bit fed up of Pervy men though. Jade went to change some money yesterday at a small (tiny!) bank and I was invited to sit down to wait, as soon ... read more

What should have been a fantastic day out was spoiled by the driver of our tour. The day before he seemed very friendly, wanting to help but a few little alarm bells were ringing/. We thought it was a 2 and half hour journey was 5+ and the friendly driver turned in to some sort of perv. telling us things we didnt want to know. We were both getting worried so read up on what to do when we stopped for lunch. We made a code word in case we felt in danger and had a plan to "escape". Digusting man!! The Taj Mahal was beautiful and difficult to fnid the right words to convey how amazing it really is. Some people wanted their photo taking with us which was funny, got some great photos but ... read more

Just a quickie cos its been a very long day! Me and jade here grinning as we started off with a very wonky plane that didnt seem to want to go anywhere! 45 minutes late and lots of banging sounds later we took off, odd noise part of the way and then a very dodgy landing, think the pilot changed his mind about where to go when we touched down! the airport pickup guy was elusive so after an hour we had to negotiate the taxi system at the airport - when we got here he was totally offended at our tip and told us to go! Ventured down the road in a rickshaw with a wild driver who got pulled over by the traffic police, tried to bribe the police but people were watching so ... read more

Well, I see Sheffield isn't listed on Travelblog.org! 20 days to go til my trip with Jade to Northern India, preparations are well in hand. We have our train, plane tickets booked, rucksacks, sleeping bags aired, visas should be back with us tomorrow or the day after and we have a bottle of de-ododrent to share (how the hell do you spell that anti-smell word?). There is something big missing out of my life at the moment but hopefully the experiences of India, who we meet, what we see and where we go will put some perspective back in my life, I can but hope? We are starting in Dehli - New Years Eve no less! Bottoms up, vodka down and return us to the youth hostel at the end of the night! We are then ... read more

It has been a few days because I have been too busy having fun to be tied to a PC in this gloriously fascinating place called India. The sun has shone on the righteous, as it should, but its cooler in the shade for us mortals so I don't mind that at all. Vatta Kanal was magically mystically and remotely crazy; I had a breakfast tea with a village family, i was up at 6:30 and out in the clouds 10 mins later. The lady we rented the cottage from invited me for the tea breakfast; their house was so sparse, they had one main room with a fold up zed-bed type thing for their sitting area, a wall of pots and pans, a fire and that was about it; the other room they slept in, ... read more

After 24 hours of beeping horns and being pestered by rickshaw drivers, beggars and shoe-shiners the bus station was a welcome sight as it was our escape from manic Chennai; however, the bus station itself was a place to be experienced, no words can convey the surprise at what the bus station was. It was a bit of scrap land with some plastic tables and chairs, rats running freely underneath and the timetable hurridly chalked onto a wobbly board nailed to an electricity post. Stepping on the bus in readiness of a long overnight trip was a little daunting but with baggage stowed and water in hand we set off. One of my next memories was around 8 hours later and the bus giving an unfamiliar groan and constant drawn changing of gears... why? Because the ... read more
