Forgot to say, I met 2 random hippies at the airport. They were an odd couple, one was about 6ft 4" and one about 5ft 7inches... both have blonde hair and blue eyes, so they stood out from the crowd of black hair and brown eyes. Anyway, here I was walking out of customs with my luggage and these 2 weirdos just accosted me, they bound me with hugs and latched on to my luggage and ever since I haven't been able to get shut of them. They took me for a meal and made me pay (the old arguement of "got no change, sorry") and they led me up a dark alley to part with my money then made me walk up 3 floors and forced me to sleep on a bed with no covers. ... read more

Well hello there, finally arrived in India to be welcomed by an unimaginable array of sights, smells and sounds... if you cant see it or hear it you can certainly smell it! Abu Dhabi airport, what a place! stinks of the rich and run by the poor; and the plane was late. On one plane it had four interactive maps AND a webcam from the front of the plane -brilliant when going through clouds but a touch daunting when landing! The hotel - sheer luxury it was described as. When I can, I will post photos so you can see it too, I was amazed at its ambience, gosh! Toilets - we'll not mention those this trip... We went to a posh bar last night, 3 ruonds or drinks, well less than a fiver, can almost ... read more

Here we go! 4 days and counting! I have just been chatting to Kay on the phone and now I am so excited I'm going to be a pain for the rest of the week. We have been arranging to meet at the airport, Chennai and our options for meeting, considering India is so crazy are 1) Meet at arrivals (not a good idea, apparently!) 2) Meet at the prepaid taxi rank (without getting bundled into one!) 3) Meet at the hotel a half hour ride away Having just checked the exchange rate from GBP into Indian Rupees I now feel like a millionaire. Wobbly tummy at the thought of going on a few planes but I know it will be worth it just to check my 2 youngest rebels are still as crazy as ever! ... read more

OK, so it is 3 years since I wrote anything here but that doesn't mean I haven't been up to much. Sam and Kay are in India; and that is where I will be too in about 15 days, 4 hours and 18 minutes... that means I have 14 days, 2 hours and 21 minutes to kack me pants about the flight(s). I have been promised amazing things; adventures to venture into (monkey poo) , things to do (hitch a lift or two?), smells to smell (their sewers aren't that good) and sights to see... Flights are booked, arrangments made and at teatime today I get a call at work to say I have been refused a Visa to visit India!! WHAT??? Great reason though, my signature on my application doesn't match that on my 8 ... read more

Got up early to go back to Bangkok - Sam hung off the back of the taxi on the way to the ferry port (one bit of steel that hopefully connects land to boat!) - journey ok but a 2 hour wait at the other end for the Bangkok Bus so we kept busy and played four games of Shit (cards!!). All went fine til we got to Hulawangowotnot station in Bangkok and not one taxi driver would put their meter on for the journey we needed back to the hostel. Eventually we were approached by a driver that had quoted us like 10 times the normal rate (no kidding....) for a price over twice the original rate. It seemed our best option so in we got... then we realised he was taking the keys from ... read more

Haven't a clue how far we got up to a few days ago, ha! Yesterday morning sam said (courageously) "How you fancy renting a motorbike?" - - - eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!! So, what did I say? "yes" - in a very squeaky voice that wasn't mine, donned a helmet, got me leg'oer and off we set into total randomness! Mind, we had bought a map and as there is only one proper road I knew we wouldn't get too lost, well, not for long anyway! We were zooming along when Sam screeched to a halt, after putting all me clothing back where it belonged I saw a sign saying Waterfall, vrooom vroom. We nearly ran over a ferkin huge centipede too - mustve been 12 inches long and defo had more than 100 legs (hope he dont get ... read more

Yesterday was time to book to leave Ayawotsitcalled - the stingy bugga's overcharged us double so we were pretty glad to leave! We had a plan - with a problem, our train left ayawotsit at 5:00am, did we have a watch/clock? No, did we hell... but we didnt let that stop us! Up at 4:30, tuk-tuk to train station - yakkityyakiityyakkity all the way, sat in 3rd class again (nothing but the best for us Tykes!) and arrived at Bangkok at 7:30am - used their fantastic trainstation bogs; not only did you have to squat, twist round and then peform a water dance you had to race for the opportunity too!! queues? They don't do queues!! Thank Gawd I only wanted a pee! Hate to think of the rigmarole for a No2! Bus to the ferry ... read more

Had a fantastic trip in a 3rd class railway carraige yesterday, they have their smokers sussed out here - on the bogey joint between carraiges, totally open air, mind the gap or you're f***ed (o; Where are all the fat Thai's? I dont think I have seen any yet, but then again I haven't seen any ambulances either - don't these peeps get sick? Found a great little hostel in Aythaya - a tuk-tuk man commandeered my baggage off the train and led us straight to his tuk-tuk "oh my.... these guys can be scary" and off we went to the P.U.Hostel - en route he told us he can do guided city tour, cheap and good - well, quick think and we took him up on the offer! He said he would meet us at ... read more

how could I forget this... went for a shower early this morning, it is in the same little cubby-hole as the loo, so, problem solving came in to play - do I go have a pee then shower right next to it, take the weight off my feet and pee at the same time as showering? Or shower then pee... Next quandry - what the hell was that hosepipe with the trigger next to the bog for? Mmmmmmmm, over here you don't wipe yer arse with paper like we do, you get rid of the pebbles by jet-spraying with the hose pipe - how tricky is that? So, with my sloppy co-ordination I had to warn all the neighbours I could be watering their gardens too and just hope I don't get a dose of travellers ... read more

The pilot did a great job, he didn't crash once, pretty impressed with that! Got to Bangkok at an unheard of hour, sommat like 5 am! The passport control all had a sniff at my passport cos I spilt erm... well, body oil over it - thankfully they didnt ask how, they were too intruiged with the smell! Then... the taxi driver pulled up outside a building saying "Massage@ and pointed saying it was my hostel - no no no I said, idiot - I dont want a massage.... mmmmm, the hostel shares the same building! ha! Sleeze Street (not really, its great) Shown to room - ah, top bunk.... will let you lot work that one out! In the dorm there are 10 beds (5 bunks) - of those occupants three suffered terrible flatulence, and ... read more
