DAWN IN PORT CANAVERAL The show last night was entertaining, a comic, an aerial act and a song from Graham, our cruise director. This is one very talented fellow and Royal Caribbean is lucky to have him. He appeals to all age demographics and is always charming. Up early to film his morning TV show and up late to host one of the games or activities. Dawn is breaking over the Port and the Disney Dream is outside the window. MaryLu just left to join her excursion to the Cape Kennedy Space Center. Her flight is at 5:00 pm. I am just enjoying my last day on board. Soon I’ll shower and have breakfast then I must leave by 9:00. My flight is a 3:00 so I’ll have a wait at the airport. I really enjoyed ... read more

FREEDOM SEA DAYS – TWO IN A ROW Anyone who has been following my blogs knows how much I enjoy sea days. On the Freedom it’s no different except there are so many more options and yet the ones that appeal to me are basically the same. Sea Day 1 Breakfast in the Windjammer included really good hash. No smoked salmon today but so many other choices are available. MaryLu and I had a two-top by the window and enjoyed a healthy start to the day. Next was a Q&A with the Captain. Rob Hempstead. He is from RI and his career included factory-fishing ships in the Bearing Sea and the west coast of Africa. He has a great sense of humor and was entertaining as well as informative. He explained for Azipods work and what ... read more
WITH AN ATTITUDE

Freedom Sea Day. This is our first full sea day and I planned to have breakfast and play a little poker at 10:45. Heard MaryLu wandering around so got up and stretched and sat down to write the blog. I am having trouble logging in so I’ll have to find a hot spot. MaryLu flabbergasted me with the information that it was 9:50. I haven’t slept that late in months. The dining room was closed so we went to the Windjammer and low and behold they have my smoked salmon too. That along with fruit, juice and coffee set me up for the day. We went to the casino where there was actually and game in progress and I was able to sit in. When it broke up I was ahead $13. Observations on RCL: Fresh ... read more

BEACH TIME MEGAN'S BAY

St. Thomas Woke early and headed to the Windjammer for breakfast, fruit and smoked salmon for me. Arrived at St. Thomas at 11:00 and watched as the Captain slid the Freedom in between the Norwegian Epic and a Carnival Ship. It’s really amazing how easy it seems to maneuver this vessel with it’s azipods. By 11:30 we were off the ship and on our way for a tour of the Island and some beach time. The weather was overcast but that didn’t affect the beautiful views. The island is very developed with many properties for sale or half built. We saw two more cruise ships moored at the other pier for a total of five ships in port. Charlotte Amalie must be a zoo today. I waved to Linda & Ed on St. Croix, somewhere off ... read more

Coco Cay Awoke early, had breakfast in the dining room (smoked salmon or course) and headed to the tender station. Since Ann and Bill had been there before they led the way to a lovely area far from the crowds. We found lounge chairs near an umbrella where we would have shade later in the day. I headed to the water with my snorkel gear knowing full well that the sightings would be slim. I could wade 500” from shore and still be up to my thighs. It was the only recent snorkeling I have done that the only fish was spotted while I was putting on my fins. Still the water was warm and salty and the sun was shining, the terns were fishing and the gulls were too. Back at the lounge a couple ... read more

Freedom of the Seas (It’s really big) We arrived at the port at 10:30 and were able to check in right away since Bill and Ann have Emerald status and we were able to tag along. We sat in the elite section for a short time and then proceeded to have our picture taken. Once that was done we boarded and made our way to the Windjammer for lunch. If it wasn’t for Bill and Ann we would still be trying to find our way. We were able to get a table by the window at the stern where the view of the port was great. This buffet venue is very attractive with lots of stations for various food options. We all opted for salads. We started to explore the ship. It’s really, really big! First ... read more

Cocoa Beach, After an uneventful flight to Orlando on the “convertible” airline, I picked up my bags and MaryLu, Bill and Ann soon pulled up. Bill, MaryLu’s son, has rented a large SUV and my bags filled up the remaining space. The weather was sunny hovering around 90 and the drive to Cocoa Beach was short and pleasant. Checked into The Doubletree just in time for Happy Hour. Actually, Happy Hour had just ended but Bill is a charmer, not to mention REALLY good customer so we were able to relax with a cold beer. Our hostess was from Dublin and wants to go back to visit her Mom but the airfares, according to her, were outrageous. She has been in the US for 26 years now. Our room has a balcony that has views of ... read more

We are approaching Port Lauderdale and it's still dark. Waiting for my coffee and juice. At 7:30 I disembark and head to the airport and home. We have had wonderful weather. Except for the shower on Curacao it has been warm and sunny. It has been lovely to go on deck after supper and look at the stars or sit in a lounge chair in the shade and watch the passing scene. As we approached the east coast of Cuba the traffic increased. We passed close to another HAL ship, either the Neiuw Amsterdam or the Eurodam heading south. Off in the distance were other cruise ships, tankers, navy vessels and fishing boats. The Noordam is a great ship. Of the large HAL ships they really got this one right. The library is wonderful as are ... read more

Aruba Today’s plans were all about party and fish. Bill, Diana and I took the local bus out to the hotel strip and boarded the Jolly Pirate Ship. The bar opened as soon as we sailed. The passengers were mostly younger and from the hotels. We were the only group from the Noordam and there were a few Princess folks with us. Our first snorkel spot was over the wreck of a German freighter from WWII. We arrived at the site along with a large catamaran and I watched as dozens of folks drifted into each other. Definitely not my idea of fun so I enjoyed the show the birds put on. Someone was dropping food in the water and the birds dove down to get a bite. I felt a bit sorry for the snorkelers ... read more

Curacao Met Bill and Diana at the gangway and walked to the Avis office to pick up our car. Soon we were on our way. The roads were quite good and the signage excellent. Once we got off the main roads the pot holes got worse. We found a flock of flamingos and I stopped so I could take a picture. Caution, watch where you are stepping, always!! I managed to step on a red anthill feasting on goat dodo. They were not happy and soon I wasn’t either. But I got my pictures. Today’s plan was beach hopping and we were soon at Playa Marie and quickly picked out our spot in the shade. Bill was first in the clear calm water. The sandy bottom was littered with pieces of coral. This was not the ... read more
