Thursday. Ugh. One of the longest days of the longest week ever. So many reports due, so many things to do, and all I wanted was to end this week and enjoy my weekend. I enjoy all the work, but it IS exhausting! I finished what I could of the two remaining reports, and left them with another engineer with instructions about the two things remaining before getting them out. I pray that they were sent. I guess I will know in the morning.... So, Jamie came to pick me up around 4:30 to go to Abu Dhabi. She was hosting a luncheon the next day for some friends and I decided to come down with her to help her prep. Oh, I actually got to drive! First time in two months! She had a conference ... read more

Today was another day of having my head down, eating at my desk (daily lunch with Ivan - noodles for me today), and trying so hard to get all these blasted reports done. But nothing could hide my pleasure, when I hesitantly called my realtor to ask if I could have something Jamie bought for my apartment delivered to the apartment tonight, since the movers were adament it HAD to be tonight. I was worried he would say no, but instead he said he would just go ahead and give me the keys when I gave him the checks, which I did have. So, I hurried up my reports, scheduled to have the other engineers review and send them out on their way. Then at 4, Zenah gave me a ride to the realtor, I signed ... read more

Today was an early day, report writing all morning, lunch at my desk while discussing a project, engineering calcs that afternoon, and report finalizing before the shuttle left. I kept my head down and my ipod on all day long. And you know what - it was a pretty good day! I came home and rested for a bit before meeting a friend of Brian's - a fellow Ole Miss graduate. She and i had dinner at the Marina at some Peruvian place. It was ok - very smoky from the grill, loud and poor waiting. The food was ok. I had a grilled veggie pita with hot sauce. Kim paid and I vowed to take her out again. She works in JLT, where my new place is, and we seemed to get along pretty well, ... read more

The other night at midnight I was woken to a popping sound. Yes, there were fireworks going off near the Palm or Burj al Arab. I guess a Ramadan celebration? Very weird for a Saturday night. Yesterday was the usual work day. I had reports, smiled a lot, and looked for apartments. I was getting very frustrated with the apartment hunting; after sending a few emails or calling agents, I had little to go on. IF I actually got someone on the phone, it was usually "Oh that is unit 3602. Just tell the security desk and go on up." They had no intention of meeting with me, or volunteering any information or anything. It's just "Oh, go look for yourself, call me, and give me 5%." Utterly ridiculous. Then, a beam of light shone upon ... read more

Yesterday was a nice start to the weekend. I lounged in bed all day, read a huge chunk of my book on Kindle, ate some leftovers. Yes, Friday was the first day of Ramadan and I had prepared. Thursday night, I ordered delivery - enough to last me for supper and through the day - and from one of my favorite places: Zaatar w Zeit. They make these delicious falafel wraps that are huge and are good for two or three meals: it is a spiced falafel mix with parsley, tomatoes, turnip and radish. I also a Fattoush Salad on the side, which is a traditional Lebanese salad with tomatoes, cucumber, mint, parsley, onions, pepper, lettuce and halloumi cheese with baked bread chips and drizzled with a yummy vinegarette. Seriously, so far this my absolute favorite ... read more

Life continues on as usual here. I did receive my Visa - woohoo! Soon, I will take a photo and show it off. I am still waiting on my Emirates ID, but in the mean time I am applying for my bank account and looking for an apartment. The allowance was less than I was led to believe, but I can still get a pretty comfortable place. Plus, I will most likely have a roommate, a woman I work with. We checked out a nice place last night and we both wanted it, but it is gone. At least now I know what I like and what is out there! Last night, after the long day of work then apartment hunting, I got food delivered for the first time. I ordered from this place I'd been ... read more

Thursday, I was informed that I would NOT be working in Qatar anytime soon, so I was very excited to get a move on my officially settling into Dubai. Soon, I'll be able to get my license, buy a car, get a bank account, and most importantly, get an apartment! Woot woot! Of course, my favorite client made my life a living hell for the last couple of days of work, but the difficult part of the project is almost over. I hope! Friday, I took myself to the Mall (where else?) and watched a movie in the VIP section. Red Lights was ok, nothing spectacular, but I just love watching the movies in this fashion. I was bad with my food this weekend, and nachos at the movie with a coke was just the beginning. ... read more

Work was very stressful today, thanks to my client who likes to twist my words around and email my boss directly when he doesn't get what he wants... Ugh. Oh well. First thing this morning, I went to get my bloodwork done. We went to the wrong place first, then I had to wait in line at the second. They paid for "VIP" treatment for me, which means I got to go through some of the lines and we get my results in 24 hours. There is a women's waiting area and a women's x-ray area - I am actually starting to like this seperation (on occasion). First I got blood drawn, which is my least favorite thing - not because I'm scared of blood or the needle - but because they can never find my ... read more

So the last few days after returning from Abu Dhabi were pretty typical. Go into work. Do some work. Eat at Times Square. Tease Samar. The usual. I feel like things happened though... Sunday I got my first package from Sharyl in Malibu. An LA Kings shirt! Woot woot! And some trinkets to remind me of what I'm missing in the Bu. I was so happy! I think it took about a month to get here, just for future reference. ;) Monday was more fun though. First of all, most everyone knows how I love being right, which is why I am happy all the time. ;) And many of you know about my amazing weather sense. So, I noticed our office was getting dark, so I went outside to see what was up, expecing a ... read more

So, the second day in Abu Dhabi was a nice lazy day. I spent most of the time laying on the air mattress in the empty living room reading my kindle - I finished Stardust (which I wound up really liking) and read the entire Chelsea Handler book: My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands, which had me laughing all day long. First thing in the morning, Jamie ordered some Indian Breakfast thing which was like a pancake wrap with some kind of curry inside and a couple of dipping sauces. Jamie was not feeling good, so we put off going to the Grand Mosque. I was a little sad, but I will be here for two years - I have plenty of time to see it. Plus, sometimes there is nothing better than ... read more
