Jamie's bed
the bottom portion slides out so you can lay mattresses side by side for a double Today was another day of having my head down, eating at my desk (daily lunch with Ivan - noodles for me today), and trying so hard to get all these blasted reports done. But nothing could hide my pleasure, when I hesitantly called my realtor to ask if I could have something Jamie bought for my apartment delivered to the apartment tonight, since the movers were adament it HAD to be tonight. I was worried he would say no, but instead he said he would just go ahead and give me the keys when I gave him the checks, which I did have. So, I hurried up my reports, scheduled to have the other engineers review and send them out on their way. Then at 4, Zenah gave me a ride to the realtor, I signed some paperwork, and got my keys. Woot woot!
I went to my hotel for a nap first since the delivery would not be til late that evening and I thought the electricity would be off. I then took the metro around 7, which was surprisingly empty, and got off at my new station: JLT. My building is not exactly in front of the metro,
but it is a short walk. I didn't know which way was better: frontage road or try to access by the lake. I figured the lake route would be the most pleasant part, even though it was hotter than Hades and I was carrying my laptop (to work while sitting in the dark waiting for delivery). The lake was really nice and there are a lot of little restaurants and stores sitting on the walk, facing the lake. It's not as lively as the Marina, but it seemed there were lots of options. Including a cute little gelato place with ice cream cone stools, which I am determined to try. There was also a Carrefours market soon after getting off the metro - woohoo!
I was able to access my building through the parking garage and made it straight up to my floor; again, it was empty which really surprised me, but I was happy. I unlocked me door, walked in, and whoa - the electric is on AND it was nice and cool. Apparently, the AC in my new place does work. I could not help but grin like a moron, very thankful that no one could see
my tub
deep enough for a great bath! me... Instead of describe, I'll just let you see it through photos.
Meanwhile, I was able to read for a bit, put a movie in (Letters to Juliet), and ordered some food. I was bad and got a pizza, but i deserved it. The delivery guys came around 9:30 and set up the day bed thing and took off. I tell you, the doorbell is LOUD and makes me jump every single time. Jamie was the third and final doorbell ring and despite me having heard her heels on the floor, I jumped out of my seat!
Our final task of the evening, well besides me writing this, was to order lemon juices. Yum. All fruit juices here are more expensive - it was 38AED for both of ours, but it IS really good....
In the meantime, enjoy peering into my new place from afar...
