So the last few days after returning from Abu Dhabi were pretty typical. Go into work. Do some work. Eat at Times Square. Tease Samar. The usual. I feel like things happened though...
Sunday I got my first package from Sharyl in Malibu. An LA Kings shirt! Woot woot! And some trinkets to remind me of what I'm missing in the Bu. I was so happy! I think it took about a month to get here, just for future reference. 😉
Monday was more fun though. First of all, most everyone knows how I love being right, which is why I am happy all the time. 😉 And many of you know about my amazing weather sense. So, I noticed our office was getting dark, so I went outside to see what was up, expecing a few clouds covering the sun. In the distance I saw some storm clouds. I told people in my office and they literally scoffed at me. "It doesn't rain in the summer. We got a few cm a year, always in winter." "It never thunders here." Sure enough, 20 minutes later, Joevet comes in and says it was raining outside. I successfully kept myself
from sticking out my tongue, but if I had been inside when the lightenining and thunder hit, I would not have been able to refrain! As it was, I was able to enjoy the very brief light rain and thunder while talking to Joevet outside. I am never so happy as when there is a thunderstorm! Now Dubai is one away from my storm experiences in my ten years in California...
The day got even better as just as I was walking to my hotel, Jamie called and said she was picking me up with her coworker for trivia night. We went to a british bar in Dubai Marina and ordered food and drinks (not Jamie - she was driving and there is ZERO tolerance for that here). I ordered a BLAT, which was pretty good, and wine. Happy hour works in that you get 2 for 1, but you get both at the same time. Wierd. So I had two glasses of wine in front of me, and her coworker had two bottles of beer (I told him to drink up as one would get warm!). Trivia was fun - we participated as "Team Golden State" (Malik went
to USC I think). We wound up getting last, but it was biased to British questions, so we actually did pretty well. Of course, once Jamie handed me the trivia sheet to fill out, I answered questions and only looked up for their opinion if I didn't know - I get so crazy about trivia!
(See paragraph 3: always being right) But I definitely killed the Geography, TV/Film and (surprisingly) Music categories. 😊 In 7th place, we were given our prize: a Burj Khalifa paperweight. Jamie generously allowed me to keep it. I think we may come back as first prize was 600 dirhams in vouchers!!! So, we have a plan to work on fleshing out our team, including recruiting a Brit or two...
