Work was very stressful today, thanks to my client who likes to twist my words around and email my boss directly when he doesn't get what he wants... Ugh. Oh well.
First thing this morning, I went to get my bloodwork done. We went to the wrong place first, then I had to wait in line at the second. They paid for "VIP" treatment for me, which means I got to go through some of the lines and we get my results in 24 hours. There is a women's waiting area and a women's x-ray area - I am actually starting to like this seperation (on occasion). First I got blood drawn, which is my least favorite thing - not because I'm scared of blood or the needle - but because they can never find my veins and usually have to poke around. It was not so bad, but it still hurt like a mofo. After my x-ray, we went across the street to get finger printed for my national id. I haven't been finger printed since I was like 5, so it was kind of cool to see it happen again, but this time on the computer. The woman who did it grabbed my arm right where i had been stabbed and had no sympathy. My arm hurt for most of the day - not bad pain, but like it had been asleep or a bone cramp.
We went to lunch and they wanted me to try this chicken mazbi - Arabian barbequed chicken over rice, and served with some cucumber, yogurt and this delicious spicy tomato "salsa". I really liked it but it was a LOT of food - I probably ate a little less than half, mostly the chicken.
After work, I took a nap and wanted to cry when Jamie came in and made me get up to go to our planned soccer practice with my coworker Zenah. It took us a while to find it and I was secretly hoping that we wouldn't, but we made our way to the World Trade Center, where inside they had this Sports World. It was a long walk from the car to the sports center, but it was worth it. It is this HUUUUUGE gym separated into many courts for soccer (sorry, "football"), tennis, basketball, etc. Jamie and I plan to go and "play" tennis, just to watch the guys.
Paul was our soccer coach and we were paying him money, so he definitely made sure we got our money's worth. He had us doing drills and running for the first hour, things I haven't done since high school! Then for the next hour we played a game. It was all girls and most are beginners, so they thought I was awesome! haha!!! The best part though, was introducing Jamie to Zenah, or mini-Jamie. They both acknowledged how much they resembled each - height, body, attitude, hair, etc. The practice was really good and Paul is a good, patient coach. So, we practice every wednesday, trying to prepare for the upcoming league in September. I'm excited - it felt so great to get back out on the "pitch" even though my knees are screaming right now!
On the way home we stopped at McDonalds. I just wanted a cheeseburger, but Jamie got me a happy meal, so I had some fries. This was my first american fast food experience since I've been here; I haven't even tried one of the gazillion subways! It was also pretty cool as I requested diet coke, but he said they do not serve sodas with happy meals within the City of Dubai, so I got water, which is all I really wanted anyway. We chalked this up to "research" for Jamie's new job.
So, most of the day sucked, but it ended well. One more day then I can enjoy my weekend. Ciao!
