July 31st, 2013 8:46 pm PDT Day 22 We left Yuma, AZ. and went to the Mexican Border @ the town of ALgadonaes. We did not have passports to cross the border. Took some pictures and left for the Yuma State Prison, it was closed, again took pictures. Then we drove to the Cloud Museum in Bard, CA. We knew that this museum was closed during the summer. Thought we would just take pictures of the things you can see outside. Took a picture of our Model T Ford at the sign. There was a man mowing grass at the house next door, he saw us taking pictures and came over to us. He turned out to be the owner of the museum and offered a tour of the museum. We spent one hour there and ... read more

July 30th, 2013. 10:00pm Day 21 We left Los Angeles at 6:35 am with 304 miles to go, heading for Yuma, Az. Dodger Stadium was rIght up the hill from our motel so we drove up there to get some pictures before we left Los Angeles . We didn't take any pictures since the road was blocked off. Getting out of Los Angeles took longer than expected. We took Ca-1 going by way of San Diego, passing through all the beaches, Long Beach, Huntington, Sunset, Laguna, Newport. It's just like you hear- houses built on hillsides. Makes you wonder how they stay up there. We stopped for gas in Spring Valley, 160 miles to go. The first part of that leg was mountainous and then came the Sonora Desert. It was hot but not as hot ... read more

July 28th, 2013. 9:00PM PDT Day 19 Traveled 313 miles today. Our day started out rather calm, but wait, it doesn't stay that way. From our motel in Henderson, NV we drove 19 miles to Hoover Dam and got there early to get a spot in the parking garage. Since we were carrying 3 gallons of gas in a can, we were not permitted to park in the garage. Where we were parked gave us our exercise since we had to walk about a half mile and do 84 steps ( I counted them ) both ways. The dam is so big, it amazes us how this could be built in the 30's. From there we headed to today's destination, Hesperia, Ca. About 11:00 am,WE MADE IT, To California. Not long after we got into a ... read more

July 27th, 2013 8:13 PDT Day 18 We got an earlier start today because our travel was to Henderson, NV., 346 miles. The first 50 miles were slow because there were many long hills to climb. It got real cold throughout the morning. Mae had two light jackets on and used one of my jackets to cover her legs, I endured with one light jacket and sweat pants, I was very cold. As we dropped in altitude the air got warmer, then came the sun. By the time we got to within 50 miles of Las Vegas, NV., it got hot (99 degrees), we decided to fold the top of front windshield down, the air felt good, drove this way to our motel. We drove through main drag in Las Vegas to see the buildings. It ... read more

July 26th,2013 10:30 PM MDT Day 17 Today was the shortest tour of the week, Zion Canyon- 81 miles. As we got to Zion Canyon, we're thinking " did they save the best for last ". We're hoping the pictures will give some idea of how spectacular it is. We drove through a very short tunnel and one that was 1.1 miles long, built in 1930. We actually drove on roads that were down in the canyon. This was different from the other canyons since they were seen looking from the top down. We saw a desert big horn ram while driving through. After we got to the town of Springdale, we parked our cars there since there would be too many for the visitor's center parking lot.We were shuttled to the visitor's center and from there ... read more
