My flight to New Orleans leaves Buffalo at 10AM so I had to start driving at 5:30AM. I left this early to compensate for any delays at the border. The usual drive is about 2 hours in regular traffic. I packed lightly for this trip so I wouldn't have any checked baggage. Drive to Buffalo was ok no real problems at the border and the flight left on time to JFK. I had hours of waiting at JFK T5 so I wandered around the terminal for awhile. I will say that JetBlue's Terminal 5 is quite impressive and has an extensive cafeteria area. My flight should have left at 4PM but the plane came in late and by the time we got on the plane it was 4:40PM and that is when we got stuck. Apparently ... read more

Woke up at 8AM refreshed and I was glad we had drank at the hostel because it is easier to get in bed afterwards. Today my group was all going to different places. Me back to Canada, Ian to China, one Vera to Taiwan and the other Vera to Macau. I walked with Vera to the airport bus stop where she would take the bus to the airport. I memorized the location for my own use later that day. I grabbed breakfast at a nearby diner and after that I went looking for a foot massage place. The hostel had recommended one but when I got there it was not open yet so I circled the block and found another one which was some lady's apartment. First I had to dunk my foot in very hot ... read more

Woke up that morning with a strange feeling in my head. It wasn't quite a headache but close enough. I woke up at 8AM and I was up even thought I only had 5 hours of sleep. I was glad of this because I still had a full day ahead of me. My group from last night was still sleeping so I grabbed breakfast with a Spanish lady, Cristina. I was short on cash so she was good enough to front me some cash for breakfast until I got some money from the ATM. It took a few banks before I found one that took my bank card. I was feeling bad for the amount time it took because Cristina was on her way back to London where she works. Finally I got some money from ... read more

It was a little past midnight once I got to Singapore from Perth. Scoot airline runs almost all its flights through Singapore. The unique feature of the Singapore airport is that even thought you are only transferring planes you have to do the immigration check. It is only one form and I got through it fast enough. Singapore airport is also quite beautiful, modern and full of art features like fountains. I also had to collect my bag and check back into Scoot Airlines and boarded the flight to Hong Kong. I will say there is something strange about the airplanes on Scoot Airlines. First off there is no entertainment system and I had to pay for food. In this case some curry and rice. It has more to do with the air on the plane ... read more

I woke up that morning and went to breakfast. As I sat down to eat breakfast I had time to reflect on my Australian trip. It had not been a perfect trip with plenty of bumps along the way but it was a great trip all the same. I always tell people if your trip goes according to plan than you didn't do it properly. So for my last few hours in Perth I could have gone to museums but I ended up wandering around on the CBD bus and took pictures of the entrances. I sat down for some gelato outside one of the museums and just people watched for awhile. After some lunch of sushi I went back to the hostel to do some writing before it was time to leave. I spoke to ... read more

Woke up that morning determined to make it to Kings Park that day. I went to a nearby café for breakfast, nothing major just eggs and toast. It was early and I went to the post office to mail some postcards and gifts to people. Biggest gift was a miniature gumball machine and some chocolates to Shannon. So I fulfilled my promise to Shannon to get her some gumballs :). After that it was time to get to Kings Park. I found the correct bus again Bus 37 which is free to Kings Park. This time I took it in the right direction and 10 minutes later I found myself in Kings Park. It is a large park and pretty as well. I got there just in time for a tour of the park from a ... read more

It was time for my last stop within Australia, Perth. I packed quickly and called for a taxi. At this point I realized I should have looked more carefully on the bulletin board. It showed a signup sheet for people to share taxis. There was someone leaving at the same time as me but by the time I got down there and saw the sheet, whoever it was had left in a taxi a minute before. I could have split the cost of the taxi with them if I had been more curious about the hostel. Another mistake I made that morning was forgetting my microfiber towel on my bed. This towel was special because it was the size of a hand towel but incredibly absorbent so it could be used as a regular towel. I ... read more

I took the early morning skybus to the airport (5AM). Plane was uneventful flight with Virgin Airlines. I did sleep through the courtesy cookies so I was hungry when I landed. Adelaide like Canberra was not a big tourist city but I had a good friend in the city so that is why I included it on my trip. Stephen was from my Topdeck bus and was one of 10 guys on that bus. Background on Stephen he was one of 2 guys on the bus who had a girlfriend back home and is religious and is just about the nicest guy I have met. My first impressions of him was that he was partier because he has a 5 o'clock shadow beard. As with a lot of the time first impressions aren't always accurate. Stephen ... read more

Woke up this morning and got breakfast with Debbie. This would be the only time I drove with someone else in my rental car. So I drove very carefully and it was handy having someone else in the car to watch your driving. We ate breakfast at a diner in Portland and we both had Eggs Hollandaise which I always enjoy. Still was not used to the price of the meal which was $50 or so. I was happy to buy Debbie breakfast for letting me crash at her place. After a photo at the Portland sign and after a final hug I reluctantly said goodbye to Debbie and was on my way back to Melbourne. Driving back to Melbourne I took the road through the interior so it only took 4 hours to get to ... read more

Woke up in a nice room and took a second to remember that I was in actual house not in a crowded room with a bunch of bunk beds. I slept ok but I was so used to the presence of other people in the room when I sleep that it was weird to sleep in my own room. Megan's house is in the country and I had some time before I started on the road again so we went out for a walk. It was a nice day and we saw a kangaroo with a joey in her pouch. I wish I had brought my camera but I managed to get a picture using my smartphone. I complimented Megan on having such a nice house and living in the country. If I can't get a ... read more
