Hey guys, I don’t have a lot to report, but I'm in the internet cafe so I figured I'd update my blog. I just got back from 3 nights down at Cornulla (1 hour south of Sydney). I was crashing with Matt Brownlee (thanks matt). It was really nice to hang out with a familiar face. He and his roommates really have a good thing going down there (except for the manual labor thing). It was pretty fun living with them for a short period of time. There were 4 guys (all in one room...double bunk beds) and then 2 girls who shared a queen size bed in the other room. We lived off of NO FRILLS food from the grocery store (which is similar to the "Gaint/FoodLion Brand" but its totally no frills; black and ... read more

Australia….…..I love this place. It is actually really nice to be in a big city right now, especially after being on my own in Fiji for so long. Here I can really feed off of the people, the energy; in my short time here I have already formed a really good impression of this city. It is a large city, but it is not intimidating, it is really clean, well spaced out, and beautiful. With tons of parks, trees and street performers. Everyone seems really friendly and there are a lot of funky little cafes, restaurants, and bars. It is pretty expensive here (about the same as home) - and it is really easy to travel around here…the hostels are nice, everyone speaks English, and there is a huge infrastructure built up for backpackers (since this ... read more

Oceania » Fiji » Yasawa Islands February 10th 2005

So back to Fiji.... The island I stayed at was absolutely amazing. I really need to catch up with my blogs because it is tiring writing about old stuff...so I'll go kind of quickly. (again…I’m not going to edit this so sorry if it is a little sloppy) So after that crazy hike that I talked about in my last email I ended up at this village. The village was right on the water in "one of the islands in the yasawa group". I'm staying at in a room that a lady name Adi rents out to tourist (but I am the only one there). Like I said before things were a little slow when I first got there; but after settling in some of the locals came bye to see who the new white boy ... read more

Bula (hello / welcome / what's up..in Fijian), Let me just start this off by saying that the Fijian people are absolutely amazing!!! I have never met nicer, easy going, hospitable people then the people that live in Fiji. It really is impossible for me to describe how genuinely nice everyone is here. So I arrived at 5:30 got right onto a boat and headed away from the "main land" and to the Yasawa Islands. (I dont what to say exactly where I was because it was a hidden paradise and I'd kinda like to keep it that way.) So i get to my "secret island" around noon. There are three "hostels" on the island and i get dropped off at one on the most southern tip. The hostel was completely empty so I told the ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Big Island » Kailua-Kona January 30th 2005

I am definitely falling behind in my blogging, but I dont want to skip over Jen and my experiences on the Big Island of Hawaii because it was truly a brilliant time. The Big island is my current favorite out of all the places that I have been so far. I'm still hoping that jen fills in the blanks. So when we arrived on the Big Island, under the heavy influence of jen, we decided to rent a convertible (good call). We drove all over the island so having a convertible was a definite bonus! Lu'au - Jeff had secretly purchased tickets for a Luau for my first night on the Big Island (apparently everyone knew about it except for me). So shortly after jen and I arrived at Rainbow Plantation we put on our hawaiian ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Oahu January 26th 2005

Aaaaa-loha, Well my friends, it has been a long time since I last updated my blog; and a lot has happened. I think that this first update will be for our time in Oahu only. Jen and I left for Hawaii on the 11th of January, spent the night in LA and then arriving in Honolulu, Oahu on the 12th. Upon arriving we were greeted at the gate by a Hawaiian girl who had lei's for both of us (a little surprise I arranged for Jen). The first night we stayed in a hostel in Waikiki, a pretty fun place that had a bunch of activities set up for its guests, but they only had room for us for one night. The rest of the time we stayed in a hotel called Big Surf. Which was ... read more

This is going to be a short blog; I need to leave for the airport in 15 minutes for my TRIP TO HAWAII WITH JEN!! YEE HAA. I am pretty excited about this. But I wanted to quickly add a little blog for my trip to the great city of Sterling, VA. I had a good time seeing whom I saw, and to everyone who I didn’t see...sorry, I only had a few days. Here are some pics. My next update will be from Hawaii (maybe I can convince jen to write a little next time). This was boring (sorry)...pics will be up in a few minutes Aloha, Chris ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Guatemala January 2nd 2005

So New Years in Antigua was pretty amazing. The Guatemalans do it right (but extremely dangerously). Every kind of firework that you could imagine was on sale here, and for dirt cheap. I was like a kid in a candy store. Roman candles, Huge rockets, things that looked like dynamite, and anything else you could imagine! So I bought tons of fire works, and the worst champaign (sparkling wine) imaginable. We (a few friends from the hostel) headed down to the central park with 1000's of other people. The local kids would run through the streets with something similar to large wings attached to their backs that where covered with tons of fireworks. The fireworks would shoot off into the crowds, the fountains would singed everyone, and the bombs would explode left and right. It was ... read more

(this one should be short...not too much to report) So I left Utila a few days ago and spent a night in San Pedro Sula, where 4 days earlier 28 people where killed when a gang member took and AK-47 and unloaded on a local bus. But dont worry mom, things where much safer when I was there, they had officers stationed all over the place. From San Pedro, I caught an all day bus and ended up in Antigua Guatemala by night fall. Antigua is an absolutely amazing city. There are a ton of fun little restaurants and bars here. It is a little more expensive then the other cities I have been in but it is one of those places that is just really fun to explore. I would compare it to Charleston S.C. ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Honduras » Bay Islands » Utila December 26th 2004

Well I passed my scuba course, and I have to admit...scuba diving is a ton of fun!! It is totally like being in an aquarium, 10 times better then snorkling. That is basically all I have been doing since I got here...8 hours a day. Today I saw a turtle. I have a new perspecitive on them now; under the water they are so gracefull, they're just chilling, not like their buddies on the land! Christmas was fun, since the island is mostly tourist everyone just partied really hard here, I think I went to every single bar on the island (it is a tiny island). Stayed up way to late, had to wake up way to early, went scuba diving, and then went back to my shack for a nap (around 4) and didnt wake ... read more
