Today was one of those days that you wake up feeling that it was going to be a great day. I closed 3 important deals on the phone while the drive to my dive site. I got my favorite parking spot and the water looked flat and clear. I went straight to the Oxy land and I didn’t see the big one but I saw miniature ones. I already got an ok shot so I moved on. I went by an area full of headshields, both the aqua and the blue ones. They were moving a lot so I continued. I saw a pike fish blenny swimming free going after its mate. I noticed the starfish were different all their pores were swollen and the hole in the middle was completely open. I probably missed a ... read more

A typical bridge dive. The parking lot at the bridge was completely packed. Steve dropped me and all the gear off at the ramp and went to park the truck. I was in the mood of shooting some fish. I went to the pilings south of the wall and I found a juv Lion fish. It is the second one I have seen. So beautiful. Jhon came flying towads me asking for some video time before we kill it and do a favor to the other fish. I visited the sergeant Mayor with the eggs. They are full of color. On the way back I practiced getting some yawn action and blue backgrounds. And then at the end of the dive I found a group of Oxynoe antillarum, beautiful bright nudi that photograph real well. I had a lazy morning and once out of bed I checked out the web camera and the ocean at the beach looked flat, no surf at the entry point, the palm trees weren’t moving and the sky was blue. It was a perfect day for a dive or two. By the time that air fills were done and put food in our belly the weather had moved in a little bit. It was windy but no so much. The divers getting out claim great viz. So we went in. As soon as I went down I lost my buddy. With the weather moving in the surge was a little bit more than noticeable. I could hear the rain and the thunders on top of me. I saw a bright Saddled Blenny. With orange body. I ... read more

Lately I have been having a weird feeling of being lost in the crowd. I feel like taking the same pictures of the same critters with the same lens on similar cameras has become a routine, all the photos look the same and it’s boring after a while. The fact that everything that I shot today I have never seen before made this dive the coolest dive of the weekend. The morning light was stunning. I was surrounded by lots of shinnies and I wished I had spent time using the video mode. I saw a couple of needle nose fish in the surface feeding on them. I watch them hunt. Pretty amazing. I started to feel the connection I thought was gone. There were about 4 small frilly seahorses in the grass. Sort of small ... read more

The night was calm and beautiful. I don’t dive the East side so much so I wanted to explore…. I saw a decorator crab with white eggs. All my photos are blown. A few seahorses here and there. A little fish with a blue spot I never seen before but it ended up being a juvi of a common fish. I photographed a "pinnaple" thing looking like. Very small (Flabellina size). I thought it was a nudi a first but I have no idea what it was. I think I got a couple of sharp images. I saw the usual subjects, and I tried to catch some action but I am far away from a Kovacks shot. It was not busy and it was just a pleasure to cruise around and watch things happen.... read more

The weather called for storms again but when I looked at the radar they seemed far inland. I prepared my flag for shore diving and off we went heading to the second reef. I swam on the surface almost to the end of the pier but my legs started getting the stress from all the weight: camera, 4 pounds on the flag, 3 pounds on my ankles plus the regular weight. I figure I could dive to the second reef. Well, I got distracted like usual, and once again never made it to the second reef. We were in the middle of the two reefs in an area with rocky bottom and sand. I saw a beautiful clam feeding away I held it with my hand and took it to Steve for him to shoot. It ... read more

Bored of froggies, blennies, seahorses, batfish, searobins, jawfish, nudis…I was in a mood for something different to shoot. I didn’t make it far. I spotted a school of 30 or so Snook. I waved bye to my buddy and signaled him that I was going to stay with the fish. I heard a dolphin giggling around. I looked up but didn’t see any thing and after a while I heard a splash and a silhouette of a tail swimming away. That made my dive!. I lay down on the sand observing the path of the snook. They traveled around a specific area in a circle. I position my self in different areas and tried to surprise them. A couple yawned. I guess all fish yawn. Catching the fish by surprise didn’t go to well. I decided ... read more

I dove with Judy, Mary from Tampa and David, a professional photographer introduced to the bridge just recently. Check out his work here http://davidpearlmanphotography.com/. If the link gets striped google davidperalmanphotography. His underwater photo website is www.underseaimagery.com ; if anyone wants to take a pick. I had lost the o-ring for my yoke adaptor and this unfortunate even made me late for the dive even though I arrived on time. My dive was saved twice. Judy spare me a bottle and a fill and David gave me one of his fat o-rings, Type that I have to stock of. Thanks again to David and Judy. Because of the o-ring I started my dive after the group. I went to check out the two orange seahorses that live on the sponges by the barge but I didn’t ... read more

Today I started my training for the swiming skills for the SSI Divemaster certification with a performance swim test at the Tamarac Aquatic Center. I swam 32 lenghts of 25 meters in 23 minutes. For the test I have to do the same lenght in 16 minutes which means that I have to improve my speed in 7 minutes about 13 seconds faster for each lenght. I have to swim 32 lenghts in 960 sec. 30 sec per lenght!! I am doing 43 sec at the moment. The good thing is that a little bit of weather moved in and I got asked to leave the pool right after I was fisnished and they gave me a refund. :)... read more
