Tuesday. Oct 30th. Niantec, CT to Oyster Bay, NY. We had a horrible night at anchor the boat was rolling all night. Vito wanted to be underway by 0700 to catch the tide going south in Long Island. By sunrise as we made ready, the laptop wouldn’t catch the signal from the GPS antenna. An hour went by and I got ready to navigate by paper and then Vitto decided to erase Norton and discovered that it was blocking entry to the necessary computer port. We left the anchorage at 0816 with the tide 1.5 kts. in our favor and GPS working. At 0921 we went by Long Sand Shoal. The swells got big, wind 10 to 15 Kts out of the west right on the nose. It was a rough ride. The aft blower and ... read more

Oct 29. Cutty Hunk Pond, MA to Niantic Bay, CT. The winds calmed down this morning. Ximena washed her hair with nice boiling water while Vitto did a little provisioning at the only store on the Island, “The Market” is open from 0800 to 0900 and again at 1600 to 1700. Such is the pace of living on Cuttyhunk where the 40 year round residents are all related. At 0914 we got underway. In Buzzards Bay the wind was blowing NW 10 to 15 with gusts up to 18 Kts with seas at 2 ft. The temperature was 51º F but it felt like 45º F. And the visibility was normal 10 nm. We entered Rhode Island Sound in between Block Island and Point Judith at 1333. At 1451 we passed Watch Hill heading 285ºM. At ... read more

Sun Oct 28th. Cutty Hunk Pond, MA The wind is still bowing over 20 so we didn’t move far today. We were swinging over black and white mooring sticks and Vitto thought it was a good idea to move towards shore and be more protected. I agreed. We geared up and started the maneuvers but the anchor line was tangled and there the trouble started. I tried to untangle it from deck but couldn’t get it fast enough. Vitto asked me to drop it because we were being taken by the wind so I dropped it and let scope out and when we moved leeward the windlass line went on one side of the black and white stick and the anchor line on the other side and we got more entangled. We tried for a while ... read more

Sat. Oct 27th. Cutty Hunk Pond, MA. Still here and we are not going any where. The wind is blowing hard and we see white caps all around us in a protected area. It would be insane for us to go outside. So we are hanging here for the day. Ximena studied a little bit. Vitto fixed the pump for the autopilot, the problem was a worn out spring. ... read more

North America = United-States = Massachusetts = "Cutty Hunk Pond" Fri. Oct 26th. Hewitts Cove in Hingham,MA to Cutty Hunk Pond, MA. Vitto did the final provisioning and we got underway at 0835. Our destination was Cuttyhunk, RI. Winds were out of the east at 10 to 15 kts and the seas were 2 to 3 ft. which made for a bumpy ride. At 0928 we left the Boston’s Lt on our port side heading 240ºM. At 1035 we went by Minot Lt which was very impressive. All black very pretty. And then we entered Cape Cod Bay. This area has a lot of fish traps. The autopilot decided to take a rest and we hand steered through the many fish traps. We ended up taking 1 hour watches at the helm. We entered Cape Cod ... read more

THE LIVIN END Jefferson 42 Oct 25th. Boston, MA Capt. Vitto owner of M/Y "The living End" once more is bringing his boat SOUTH FOR THE WINTER. Every year for the last decade he has spent the summer up north in the East Coast of the US and during winter he returns south to Florida and the Caribbean in his S/V “Volare”. This winter it’s going to be his first time in “The Living End” a 42” twin screw Jefferson that he acquired last May. He posted an online ad looking for crew. Ximena responded and a few days later she was landing in Boston, MA. While Vitto did the last provisioning Ximena figured her way by bus and subway to the USCG REC in Boston, Ma. She just finished a few maritime training courses and ... read more
